I’ve heard that that absolutely plays a role, you’re absolutely right. Autistic people are more likely to either be unaware of of flat out reject social norms. They’re (read: we’re, because I’m also autistic) are more likely to ask questions about themselves that neurotypical people would never dare for fear of being ostracized (which neurodivirgent people often are by default, so that fear doesn’t exist). It seems like it’s less the case that autism causes dysphoria, and more that those with it are more likely to discover and be vocal about it

It certainly plays a role in the regard that they are less afraid to experiment or have their coming out.
