There are like 40 wizard of oz books, written by the author, and the later by his son. The duet is fucking tame compared to the shit that goes down in the series.

This would've been so MUCH better if he was acting it out with figurines.

• The goldbrick road is symbolic that the gold standard inevitably leads to fiat currency, with greenback paper currency being the Emerald City. So it being covered in blood now would be the many wars the US has fought to keep the dollar the de facto world currency since Dorothy last visited Oz.

• The Tin Man was a metaphor for the US steel industry being unable to keep up with international competition without being subsidized. The constant filling of still beating hearts is the never ending subsidies that have kept the US steel industry alive at the cost of living taxpayers.

• The Scarecrow was the US farmer, so the Christ allegory is always appropriate.

• The Cowardly Lion was supposed to be a metaphor for the US military in the Spanish America War. Having been put on the gallows means we now finally placed the US involvement in that war in its proper historical place.

• There are no good witches, they are only declared good or bad after the victor writes the history. The witch of the east was killed by a falling house, because the social troubles of the populated east were solved through massive infrastructure. The witch of the west was killed by water, because the lands of the west were made economically productive through irrigation. That leaves Glinda the witch of the south, who now derives her power from the Republican party, and Locasta the witch of the north, who derives hers from the Democrats. They will maintain their tyrannical, bloody rule until the two party system is undone. Their servant, the Wizard of Oz, will continue to use gadgets and spectacle to mislead the electorate into ignoring the threat his mistresses pose.

• "For blood and sugar!" is the battle cry of the lollipop guild because that is fucking hilarious.

This is 100% one of the best trailers I’ve ever witnessed. Absolutely perfect. The singer reminds me of that dude that takes happy songs and sings them in minor chords. It all sounds depressing and nihilistic in that tone.
