Just an example, most religions have a promise of a negative outcome, should you stop worshiping their respective god.

Actually, many of the major religions don't have a heaven or hell doctrine. Even among the 3 Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism), Judaism hardly ever implies a true heaven or hell state. Even back then, many Jews believed death was the end. They believed humans can't enter heaven due to sin.
