That is genuinely awesome!

Yeah, what? This is sick

This is cool and all but FYI within a few minutes the image column displayed an image from Mass Effect that was not from Mass Effect if you catch my drift. It is NSFW

windowswap is a cool site and and dvdscreensaver.online are some good sites

lol that DVD one is perfect

thanks!

No, I'm not sitting again in front of the TV for several hours just to wait that the logo hits the corner. Nope, and I stopped smoking weed.

Finally! Where have you been 20 years ago‽

I feel like a part of my soul has been healed.

Watching this on mobile was highly disappointing

This is honestly more frustrating. Let it go. It needs to be free.

Pam claims she saw it one day when she was alone in the conference room.

https://youtu.be/QOtuX0jL85Y

Would you trust Pam?

I believe she thinks she saw it.

I don't wanna know what Pam saw...

You never know. One day, she was trying to watch a celebrity sex tape and her computer got virus.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who would sit waiting for that

I opened it and I shit you not it worked it’s way down the the bottom and hit the bottom right corner right away.

Now I’m stuck, waiting for it to hit the corner!

Windowswap is so cool and perfect for what I’ve been looking for. Too bad features are locked behind the paid version :(

My 90s tv an interactive television with snipits of all the shows, movies and ads of that decade. They also have similar sites for the 60s,70s,80s.

wow, that is super cool!

thanks for the suggestion

Fyi, it plays youtube videos and will totally wreck your youtube history if you are signed in.

As usual the real LPTs are in the comments

I keep my YouTube history turned off as a rule.

Create a container on Firefox just for the TV. Then let it play.

Or just open it incognito

This is great advice I had no idea lol

My pleasure!

I just flipped randomly through channels and saw faith no more, Johnny Bravo, the Clinton Inauguration, and Unsolved Mysteries.

Love it.

My pleasure just don’t go to far down that rabbit hole. An hour easily turns into a few.

Wow, I just went fine an amazing rabbit hole. Thanks for the nostalgic trip!

Hahaha my pleasure!

This is incredible! That's for sharing!

My pleasure!

Turns Wikipedia edits into musical notes in near real-time. Quite soothing and fascinating.

yep that very calming, good studying music

thanks!

There's something on Steam called Wallpaper Engine, from what I know, you can actually use that to set a specific web page as your desktop wallpaper. Also a ton of options in terms of interactive and static wallpapers.

Yes, just found out about it! Definitely has some cool things.

I want a wind chime soooo badly and this really scratches that itch

Can't you just get a wine chime? Hell I have tons I'll send you one.

Such a kind offer! I live in a townhouse in a densely populated area that I am new to, so I'm trying extra hard to be considerate of my neighbors. I've been meaning to look up if there are any particularly quiet chimes I could put up, or maybe even ones that I could keep inside for my own enjoyment

You can most certainly have them inside and ones that are even quiet I bought one for my daughter that hangs in her bedroom near her fan that is made out of thinly sliced geode. It's beautiful and rather quiet. It helps her sleep. My wife and I collect wind chimes and I have probably 40 or 50 throughout the house in and around.

[deleted]

Im in the US, but central AC isn't common in my city, so we keep windows open at night too. I'd guess that most people do. On the other hand, there isn't that much wind here to rustle things around, especially given the fact that I'm in the middle of a bunch of 3-story townhomes. So maybe it's something I can get away with without being too bothersome. It might totally blend in with all the city noise around here anyway.

if you get one get one that is actually musically tuned and not just some shit that bangs together.

Oh yeah, I'm still considering what scale/intervals to get, but I am considering it at least!

You might like this too!

That video reminded me of the mushroom-synth guy: https://youtu.be/-hlQHYtncww

Also, I love it

haha that's great!

Ever since I first found this years ago I've wanted an HD version on a large dedicated touchscreen display, geographically mapped onto a projection of the globe. It would function like a real-time monitor of world events. Whenever there's a flurry of activity around a cluster of articles set in the same space you know there's something going down there.

It's fun to notice patterns.

Just now it seems that someone is systematically going through entries alphabetically for some reason, because for a while there were a bunch of people named Terry popping up, and now it's into Thomases.

That's super cool and very peaceful and relaxing

They're all hyperlinks too. That's so cool!

Literature clock is cool and works offline. https://literature-clock.jenevoldsen.com/

That is great!

https://hackertyper.net

that's absolutely hilarious

thanks

“Look babe, I’m every “hacker” in a CW show! 😅

I have an old tablet thats on a shelf, chucking out "code" constastanly as an art piece.

If you were to copy paste the code in the right location would it actually work?

I guess im asking if the code itself is real or if its all just mumbo jumbo lol

It looked like Linux kernel source code to me (having written some before) so I did a search and sure enough, it's basically a copy and paste of one of the files from an older version of Linux. Here's the original: https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v3.18.140/source/kernel/groups.c

It won't do much on its own, it's just setting aside space in memory ready to store details about security permissions.

But being Linux kernel source, the code is already running on Android phones, home WiFi routers, and a bunch of other devices you probably use every day.

Awesome! This is the kind of info i wanted, thank you so much! Thats decently cool to know imo.

I'm not 100%, but it looks like valid C to me

“I’m in”

when i start to type, the find-text window opens (on firefox, i.e. usually ctrl+f), intentional?

https://driveandlisten.herokuapp.com/

Damn, I didn't not expect that! That's exactly what I was looking for!

Thanks

Dude this looks awesome!!

Three.js is so dang versatile.

Now it just needs the doctor who theme song playing along with it.

https://www.jacopocolo.com/hexclock/#

The background colour changes, depending on the time, the colour representing the hex code made up by the current time

Reminded me of Polar Clock. I used to have one set as the screensaver on a TV connected media computer. I spent so much time watching this. Definitely fun for new years eve http://bl.ocks.org/mbostock/1096355 is one example, but there are a bunch.

ohh I like that one, very cool!

Recommend ZoomQuilt and ZoomQuilt 2, they're infinitely looping pieces of artwork that zoom deeper into the image. You can control their speed and a few other things. Googling ZoomQuilt also showed more websites I assume are similar but those are the only 2 I've ever used myself

People have made new custom infinite zooms with Dalle 2.

I feel like this would go well with shrooms 😅

[deleted]

Similar, Zoom.Earth for near live images of earth updated every 10 minutes plus other overlays for wind, fires, radar, and hurricanes

That's cool, reminds me of windy.com but I wish this one was more searchable. Hard to find a specific location.

https://threatmap.checkpoint.com/

Yup. There have been a few good semi real time attack maps and they look great

I'm a big fan of Effect Games' Living Worlds

the lighting changes with the time and the scenery changes monthly

https://2000.shodan.io/#/

This is interesting. How is this data collected? I assume more than one strategy to collect?

This is essentially a site that crawls the Internet to find devices, servers, cameras, printers, etc connected to the Internet.

So is it just intercepting random http requests?

Not intercepting. It just takes a ip address and gets all the information that it can from it. What ports are open? Oh a port that is used for security cameras. Maybe I can get an image. Oh a website port is open. Let me make a http request to it.

And so on. It is just analysing everything it can from a up address and that is a lot because nobody is locking down their stuff.

Thanks this is just what I need! As a reference when I tell people most software isn't secure.

I still don’t really know what this does.

Imagine that the internet is a huge network of streets and houses. Somebody wrote some code that continuously walks down all of the streets and trys to turn the doorknob on every house on every street. Most of the time the door is locked so the code just takes some notes about the house including its street address. Other times the door is open so the code walks inside, reads the mail on the kitchen table, takes down the address details, looks around for any other unlocked doors, and what's behind them. Then it quietly moves on to the next house.

Works through a list of IP addresses (1.0.0.0, 1.0.0.2, 1.0.0.3 etc) checking to see if any of the ports are open (e.g. web servers will have ports 80 and/or 443 open, but other services use other ports).

If it finds an open port, it'll display the details from that, or other information it can download.

https://iohk.io/ has 6 or so visualizations on their homepage, just hit the eyeball. Some are based on the game of life, some based on the blockchain - they're all pretty mesmerizing.

Exactly what I was looking for! I especially love that pixel one!

Really appreciate it!

No problem! Now that I'm thinking about it, it isn't a website, but if you could install Plane9 on that spare PC - that's literally exactly what you're looking for. The Earth one was my spare screen screensaver for years!

Upvote for cardano

Wow, the links and this post are reminding me of the cool stuff I would find through StumbleUpon. I love stuff like this!

Yeah, I also loved SU. They've been acquired by MIX and now it's labeled as a scam site. Too bad we don't have such a great service anymore.

I'll check it out!

Thanks

Nothing to check out lmao

Oh sorry I think I replied to the wrong message

I meant it like, StumbleUpon doesn’t exist anymore

https://www.newrafael.com/websites/ A bunch of cool art piece websites. Some are interactive and others play by themselves.

There is also redditp.com where you can add multiple subreddits and get them displayed full screen, such as: https://www.redditp.com/r/DigitalPainting+DigitalArt/

That's very interesting! I will definitely use this!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Look at this: https://neave.tv/

This one was fun :)
Had it on my secondary screen a bit now. But seems that it has a finite set of videos before it starts over again. About 15 min or so i reccon?

Winamp

With the MilkDrop visualization!

It kicks the llamas ass

It really kicks the llama's ass.

ahem excuse me gentlemen, but, it really whips the llama's ass.

Ugh take the up votes I got they belong to you goddammit lol

https://zombo.com/

You can do anything at zombo.com

[removed]

“Git your ass down here!”

“I’m on ZOOOOMBO, mom”

I have a fantasy that, at the end of the world, when every final scrap of humanity has been destroyed and there is truly nothing left marking our place among the stars - that zombo.com will still exist

Yeah, like someone is traveling the barren landscape looking for the one called Zombo. After battling mutant overlords and such they finally find a place that somehow has internet. And they finally fulfill their goal by typing in zombo.com

I'll hook up a raspberry pi to a nuclear battery and incase it in a titanium sphere. That should hold out for quite a while. Maybe add an external speaker to the casing so in generations it'll easily be recognized as the Orb of Zombo.

That sounds like a fun religious sect.

I like leaving live wildlife cams up.

I was gonna recommend surf cams. Any window into another part of the world

Cool, I'll check it out!

Yea, I was looking for some animal cams. Do you have any suggestions for a specific one?

It really depends on the time of year. I particularly enjoy the African ponds. Explore.org has many live streams. But you have to go in realizing it's a live cam and not curated footage. So you can go hours without seeing anything or hours of hippos just chilling in the mud. Sorry I don't have a specific stream.

If you want an animal always in frame then try searching for "bird nest live stream" there are orgs that put cameras in eagles nests and other birds of prey. You get to actually watch eggs hatch baby bird feeding.

Ok, no worries, that is fine! Thanks for all the info once again!

Explore.org has all my favorites, including Katmai bears!

https://naturemixer.com

Wow, that's very calming!

Thanks for the suggestion!

https://dashboard.shadowserver.org/

That's pretty cool! I will definitely be using this!

Entertaining, infomative, and slightly alarming is, The World Disaster Map - https://rsoe-edis.org/eventMap

Rabbit Hole, love it!

I was looking for a clock display for 2 hours yesterday. This is probably my favorite so far!

Thanks for the suggestion!

https://www.bitday.me/

A wallpaper that changes according to the time of the day - inspired by pixel art!

How about Folding@home?

Or ~~SETI@home~~

Nvm, this project has been suspended...

Did you look at the link you posted? It's shut down.

Well fuck. Copied the URL from the first hit on Google. I'm a brilliant genius.

Not a website but check out the Electric Sheep screen saver. Ever evolving community driven animated fractal flames.

Too complicated for me but you can even generate your own with [Apophysis](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apophysis_(software)).

Two live YouTube channels that cycle through curated picturesque live WebCams from around the world. I will often set one on full screen on my second monitor and mute the music. It’s a neat way to experience different parts of the world as it’s happening:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=BdYSvSMErbE

https://youtube.com/watch?v=Be7OPScZz0s

Perfect! That's just what I was looking for.

Thanks!

Not a website, but Wallpaper engine on steam has a huge library of moving wallpapers. I don’t know if they cycle I haven’t played around with the software that much. Hope this helps!

You can make a playlist to get it to cycle, you can choose how long it stays up and whatnot. I usually have a couple just so I don't get ick of a single wallpaper.

I prefer Lively Wallpapers as it's free, but it doesn't have as much content (yet)

I've been very into this site lately. You can't chat or collect if you don't sign up, but it's great for background content! Sometimes it's music, sometimes documentaries or movies. Either way it's exposure to new things and I can honestly say that the team/community is great and I've learned a lot of new things in the short time I've been watching.

Wow, that's a very unique idea, especially because of the random videos! I will definitely check that out.

Thanks!

My pleasure! I really like how I get exposed to things that I'd never, in a million years, choose for myself - They're not all hits, but it's still cool to watch what other people are into. Sometimes the chat is a bit dead but I think that it's a somewhat new website so it's really just a matter of gaining traction.

Hope to see you there!

Late to the game, but I made a colloquial clock just to put up on an extra screen at my house.

Wow, I stumbled across that yesterday as I was looking for clocks! I definitely love the style of it!

www.craiyon.com

Allows you to punch in any kind of idea and AI will draw it for you.

Are there other AI sites like this but more realistic ? (Not crayon drawing)

It’s not actual crayon drawing style, that’s just the new name of the site.

The one I like the most is called Midjourney.com you have to use it in discord, but it advances so fast.

Yeah look up ai image generator. I signed up for Dall E 2 which only took a few days to come through and is free and the images are great, there's also a sub so you can check out others dalle results

https://huggingface.co/spaces/stabilityai/stable-diffusion

Dezgo, dalle 2 (you have to sign up and it takes a while to get access but it gives far better results)

https://www.fireeye.com/cyber-map/threat-map.html

That's super cool! But I'm going to be paranoid all the time that I might be the next target lol.

Thanks!

Here's something I made that's hopefully more on the relaxing side! https://drawaurora.com/

Wow, that is super cool! I will definitely be using that!

Check out marinetraffic.com

https://cybermap.kaspersky.com

Nice! I really like this style! Just hope I don't get hacked now lol

Thanks for the suggestion!

I keep this live updating display of wind across the planet: https://earth.nullschool.net

I love stuff like this! I will definitely be using this!

Thanks!

Buy a nice picture. Donate the PC to a good cause. Save the electricity.

This is an excellent answer for sure

You’re right they should just instead of posting on Reddit, donate to the poor and go on a mile jog.

That's dumb.

Seriously so dumb, people are just sooooo self-righteous when it isn't their stuff. I'm all for donating but that wasn't the question OP asked. I don't give a fuck what OP does with their spare computer.

Spoken like a true SNES punk.

“Something that updates regularly” kind of makes a static image not work for what they wanted.

[deleted]

Well, sure, that would be better. Like many fast casual restaurants do with their menus on a tv. If, of course, you can find one in stock

Is it truly worth it? You're running a whole pc as essentially a digital photo frame. Energy might be cheap where you are but it is not a very efficient use of it.

Ok, thanks. I truly didn’t understand what the person was asking and thought I was just further out of depth than I thought. They just want a screen saver for a computer.

I have monitors up at work that display dashboards for system monitoring tools (network health, server health, remote location "up" status, etc.). I have found in multiple places that I work, people tend to stop looking at the screens. They become numb to them. I have added a database of these "random" sites and throw them into the rotation of the dashboards randomly to keep people's interest in the monitors. It has proven pretty effective. I noticed after adding the random sites, the alarms were top of mind for my team. So, in my case, this isn't the ONLY thing the pc is driving, but it helps keep it fun and engaging.

That's really interesting, thanks for sharing!

Running a computer is like running a tiny heater. Sometimes that’s not a bad thing.

Sometimes it isn't but as people keep telling me - a heat pump is much more efficient at generating heat than a bar heater/standard heat loss of electronic devices. Though it isn't easy to just get a heat pump!

Yea, I thought there would be other posts like this, but the latest one I found was from 8 years ago. It had some cool stuff, but I thought there would be better stuff out, now. And you guys definitely delivered with the cool stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion!

The only possible answer is zombo.com.

Welcome to zombocom. This is zombocom!

YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!

https://fakeupdate.net/

That is hilarious!

On the site op linked, the water ones is there a way to have that as a lock screen or wallpaper on an Android phone?

I think there are a few wallpaper engines that let you do something similar, but I'm probably not the best person to answer the question.

NASA has some 24/7 live feeds from the International Space Station (ISS). There are ustream as well as YouTube channels available.

Cool, thanks!

Humanclock is an open source screensaver/photo gallery/art project.

https://humanclock.com/.

The website displays pictures, one per minute like a clock, with each picture somewhere showing the time of day.

People are free to submit whatever kind of picture they want to the site. This results in a really varied collection of images. It is really fun to look at.

Oh yea I checked this out a few days ago!

Definitely will be using this!

“Today, you are an Astronaut. You are floating in inner space 100 miles above the surface of Earth. You peer through your window and this is what you see. You are people watching. These are fleeting moments.

These videos come from YouTube. They were uploaded in the last week and have titles like DSC 1234 and IMG 4321. They have almost zero previous views. They are unnamed, unedited, and unseen (by anyone but you).”

Intriguing!

It definitely doesn't update.

https://zombo.com/

It already does everything, what’s to update?

But you can do anything there.

You could just turn it off

Old school hacker interface

I like the block clock on this exact website, I might use it

inbflat.net

this is the best form of pixel art: HTML5 color cycling engine by Mark J Ferrari. He improved the retro color cycling computer code and illustrated the backgrounds for the video game Loom (1990) and some of The Secret of Monkey Island (1990)

Here you go: effectgames.com

He did the phone game Thimbleweed Park. He also helped with art for Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, which is my favorite point and click game

Full list of games he's worked on for PC, GBA, etc

Cool! I'll check the game out, as well.

You can play it on the scummy VM emulator on your phone. Just disable the mouse dragging

Sounds good, will do.

So you can directly point and click. Instead of dragging the mouse

Okay!

its a pain to setup on iphone. You have android?

Wow that's super cool! I will definitely be watching that video when I get the time!

I said it wrong. It's a second monitor, connected to my only PC.

Oh that makes way more sense!

Yea, sorry, I should have clarified!

Surprised no one posted Archillect TV yet.

Be warned, audio plays and there is no mute or volume button immediately available.

Thanks for the warning
