Dear Diary, the authorities have decreased the amount of wet food during my meal time. I find this notion so unbearable and insulting. Not sure what your baseline is... But basic plumbing and home repair skills are cool and easy to learn. Basic electronics diagnosis and repair. A little Excel and a scripting language to automate the boring stuff.

I had a cat who loved running water, and he'd jump into the shower with me if I let him. He'd also stick his head under the faucet while it was running, kind of like this cat is doing, and he fell into the toilet more than once. Vet opinion: "your cat is just weird."
My dog basically refuses to drink water from a bowl, so I have to pour it for him from a bottle daily so he can drink it mid-air.

my dude/dudette, just keep a bottle of ibuprofen on the bathtub edge and be done with it. Hell, move a mini icechest in there with reuseable ice bags that only have to be replaced a couple times a week and have an array of drinks in there including electrolyte drinks.
It's easy to make a few tweaks to have superior adult breakdowns, especially when they're basically scheduled into your week.

Honestly, this does help. Not adapting to breakdowns feels like the right thing to do because it feels like caving in and letting it be permanent, or like the adult equivalent of a self-harm kit. But then it just becomes a different cycle that wears at your soul. Having what you need close at hand can keep it from being quite as debilitating, and that can be the first step to getting better. At the very least, it saves some time in the day.
People probably think laying down in the shower feeling shitty is not adulting right. I say drinking a bunch of water while laying down in the shower and getting to pee whenever is adulting done right.
Like I said, simple tweaks. Hydrate without having to go to the bathroom every fifteen minutes. And maybe that'll be a step in some direction that helps to feel less crappy.
Just saying, there comes a time when one needs to look at the bigger picture about why they're having weekly breakdowns.
Work shouldn't be this stressful for any of us. Medieval peasants got more free time than we do.
So while you're soothing yourself remember that there is a root cause to the pain and that it deserves some thought.
Oh, absolutely I agree. however life has a lot of different stressors (especially now) that make us feel not so great. And then there's economic stressors, or good old-fashioned brain chemistry issues.
I'm assumming OP is turning to liquor and dealing with bad hangovers the next day from trying to hide from what's really bugging them. and it can take awhile to face that. In the meantime, hydrate, lay in the shower, and keep some ibuprofen where you know you're going to need it.
After literally getting dragged from my last job after my boss called police, ambulance and social services (and the fact I can’t walk without aids anymore) I’ve finally decided to accept that it’s ok to stop for a bit. I was asked if I was red to be signed off work by my doctor but had said no because I was turned down for welfare because I didn’t know how to fill out the right forms to tell them I am juggling about a dozen different medical conditions because they don’t accept you sending them hospital letters or medical history outside of a very specific route even if you were on disability as a child and have the same lifelong condition plus a few more as an adult.

LIGHTS:
Mood lighting is a thing: too depressed to clean? or you're in a rented space and can't customize the ugly ass linoleum, tile and paint? grab some of those little night light animals that are USB rechargeable. You can switch them to different colors or let them color change between. And they make your living space more homey, or give you a change of perspective. Not only can you take them in to your bathroom and have a pink or orange cast (which I recommend over a blue or green cast which kind of are depressing to me) but they are excellent companions when you watch scary movies or tv shows. A pink unicorn night light was the only way I got through the episode of Lovecraft Country with the creeeepy twins.
Additionally, LED light strips or the wifi color changing bulbs which are kind of cheap now. Light is a big deal when it comes to mood. I'm not going to give up my tv or cell phone late at night but I can set my lights to an orangey red to hopefully offset latenight blue-light. Maybe it doesn't work but it looks nicer and I can swap to other colors when I feel like something different.

yeah, we have an open box supply store that normally sells household construction upgrade stuff but also has smaller items like curtains, lightbulbs, etc. but we got ours on amazon. I've also really like solar "fairy string" lights both for outside and inside (if you can get somelight on the solar panel during the day of course.)
But various non-conventional lights are necessary for me. I am a night owl but don't want a lot of directly overhead light that is too bright. I prefer pockets of light, maybe with colors I can mess with, and some overhead bumbs that I can colorchange and turn to white if need be.
Most if not all is coming from china anyway so I'd probably recommend Alibaba or similar. Or amazon if you have more money and less time. Or an open box store :)
I recommend Coca-Cola for headaches. Get a little fridge and put a can of coke in it along with ice packs. You can buy clay ice packs that really stay cold for a long time. They also have lightweight ice pack hats
I use the clay pack to lie on and then put a lightweight pack on my head. I also have a Manta Sleep Mask that has a very long adjustable strap so it isn’t tight on your head. It completely blocks out the light, and the eye cups are hollow so it doesn’t smush your eyes and lashes. I have a CPAP and wear it anytime I sleep because it blocks any air from the mask from blowing in my eyes. I have a very boney nose, and a little air blows out the mask although the machine says it’s a good seal. I love my mask, and my husband who also gets migraines bought one too.
Ah yes. my husband gets migraines but has too hard of a time with a cpap. He has lost weight and will continue to do so. but he has two forms of migraines that were with him even when he was trim. I'm going to check that mantaseal out. I use cheap eyemasks. Do you find that the strap of the manta going around your head bugs you with how thick it is?
As far as the vasoconstriction of coca cola or any caffeinated product-- absolutely. We tend to rotate and I've been on a energy drink binge lately where sometimes my husband and I split a 300mg drink (we're both unmedicated adhd so caffeine often helps our brains along.)
I have ADHD as well, and caffeine really helps me function better. I can also drink it then fall asleep. I have electrical heart problems (which is why I have a CPAP), so I stay away from energy drinks. The herbal supplements give me a high heart rate and tachycardia.
The manta mask thickness only goes to the temples. I think that’s to help block out light and give more area for the eye cups.
The strap at least on the original is an elastic black strap measuring 3/4th inch wide. I have a tailor’s measuring tape and just measured it. It is very stretchy and long so you can secure it without it being tight. I also recommend buying a second set of eye cups so you can wash the cups and not have the mask out of commission for a day. The eye cups are also on velcro and can be adjusted so they fit your face perfectly. The velcro strap doesn’t get stuck in my hair or cause problems either. It’s extremely well designed.

Miss me with the crying bit, but have you ever taken a nap in the shower? Hot water cranked up, curled on the floor. Awesome. And I use a little folded towel for a pillow. AND, if you're interested, lose the ibuprofen in favor of a little cannabis before you shower.

Truly, the floor of every shower I've ever used is unforgiving as a bed, but the heat and steam are (for me) relaxing enough that I can doze off for a bit. It's similar to taking a long bath, but I personally don't like sitting in water as it gets colder and colder and slowly siphons the life force from my very pores.

ohhhh... you must leave the hot water tap open a bit, and when your toes are too warm you gently swoosh the water around, mixing the cool with the hot till you are comfy again.
I love a nice long sit in the shower but no one I live with loves it when I do this. My hot water doesn't last long enough for a full on nap the damn water also randomly gets hot as hell. Those few times in life when it doesn't matter how long I'm in the shower I take full advantage of it.

I suffer from migraines and I keep it in nearly every room. Put some in the bathroom. You can fill your cup at the tap & then your headache will pass under the gentle water spray. That's hwat works for me, anyway.
So... I have them in the bathroom, then I use them and move them, I have the same pack in my bedroom... then I use them and move them or run out. It's a never ending evil cycle of pain not buying enough packs. I bought 3 last time and I swear I lost 2.
My doc did tell me that 2 ibuprofen and 2 paracetamol is the answer. Now I don't have migraines anymore I just get really bad movement headaches where it hurts your head to simply move a finger and I'm going to put that on devoting my brain cells man power to marijuana in big hopes to become a zomboid.

When you sit in the shower do you let the water run over you or sit away from it? Kinda feel like I'm drowning if I'm sitting with the water running over me, but too cold to sit if it's not. Though I suppose the tears can help warm me up
Another thought: vitamin deficiency can trigger migraine. I've had them 63 years since I was 3 YO. Ten years ago an endocrinologist ran a vitamin panel check and turns out I was deficient in Vitamins D and B-12 as well as Magnesium? When I take those supplements, I have fewer to no migraines. I ran out of Vitamin D and I've been really paying for it with near-daily headaches. Gotta hit the Big Blx Store today & restock.
Anytime I have a bad headache I sit in the shower until it goes away. Sometimes I'll drop a little peppermint oil in there for extra help.

Careful not to get it in your skin. At least, not too much. Peppermint oil+ hot water can cause a burning sensation. I put some in a bath one time thinking it would be good for my aches and it just created this cool burn all over. Especially when I got out and the air touched my skin. I also did this in the winter so that didn't help.

In school i got bullied a lot, and i used to sit in the shower at home with my hands covering my ears, so i only could hear the water hitting on my head. I remember closing my eyes and feeling in a better place.
That's really sad, I'm sorry to hear you were bullied. People can be really mean sometimes. I totally feel that though. I was really depressed a few years ago and would just run the shower and sit until the water went cold. It's very peaceful. I hope you're doing well.
