But leave them off for a truly primitive experience. People used to learn by watching, not reading after all
Yes, but they also communicated thru grunts and language
Before the first humans even knew how to grunt they had to watch a primitive techonolgy-tutorial on youtube to master it
This makes sense with how everyone used tablets back then
Underrated comment right here.
I too, communicate through grunts and language. Mostly language though.
As I get older I start leaning more toward grunts
i'm not here to learn i'm here to stare in confusion at the screen for ten minutes
Yeah, the quintessential Primitive Technology experience is mumbling to yourself "Now why's he doing-ohhhhhh!"
When he did his iron forging by beating the hot slag with a stick to the sound of completely normal blacksmith clinking I completely lost it
As nature intended.
People used to learn by watching
people always forget about ancient egyptian silent youtube
People used to learn by watching, not reading after all
Well they also used to learn by doing, and by having other people explain things to them. That's virtually the same as what reading the subtitles is. It's not like people used to just do everything in silence and expect others to just pick it up, they would of course explain it to them as well...
I’m glad things have improved since then.
Thank you!
I mean it is on the front page, but thanks anyway
Assuming you subscribe to r/videos which many don't. The link is useful.
Fuck you walter /s
Shut the fuck up Donny!
Why do people feel the need to downvote harmless comments like these.
It was rude, that's why.
You should be asking why he felt the need to make a snide remark instead of why it's being downvoted.
Or the person genuinely didn't know not everyone subbed to r/videos and not trying to make some snarky remark.
Are people on this website so geared toward debating they just assume the worst from everyone?
Are people on this website so geared toward debating they just assume the worst from everyone?
Yes, because that's the case 90% of the time. You've been here six years, you should know that by now.
Also, judging from the users comment history it was also the case this time.
Maybe you're right. I'm not good at this type of judgment even though I've been here for 7 years, since I don't immediately snuffle through people's comment history to try to "destroy" them. ^/snarky ^remark
Bro people just disagreed with him it ain’t that deep
This new video turned my C+ bowel movement into an A- bowel movement
Sounds like it came out curved
Can you imagine if it u-turned?
I've had one curl up and give my cheek a chocolate kiss.
That's fascinating
Hello yes I would like this off of my reddit please thanks 🙏
Go shit on your own ass
So C++ ?
Why the FUCK do dumbass redditors think people want to hear about them shitting? You're disgusting. And a relic of like 2010.
Imagine using Reddit and thinking you're safe from poo humor
I was alive in 2010, so that makes sense hahah
Name does not check out.

2 years to be exact.
That's crazy... It feels like it was just two years ago...
Crazy how two years feel just like something like that
The way the world is heading it might be a good idea to binge his videos.
for some reason i really expected this to be about howard the alien
I thought it was gonna be dark souls related even though the thumb nail was something else entirely
we're stupid and that's ok
He will return one day too. He’s just visiting other planets
Oh my fucking God thank you so much, I was just thinking about his channel last night wondering what was happening with him. I guess his TV thing didn't pan out?

First off, John is doing well.
John is not doing the show right now as mentioned in this previous update.
He is working on three more YouTube videos on his last project that's "taken a long time to build". As for the show production, John says "I will release [the videos] and probably better start getting back into the old production routine soon. Sorry for the long gap in production, just had a disruptive 2 years."
The other update referenced:
Hang in there, John's working on new material. It just takes more time than anticipated due to various circumstances. Luckily he's somewhat isolated from the virus. He shot a pilot for a major TV network and it looked good, but the network wanted to change the format. The producer is seeking other avenues now. That's as much as John can share right now.

It's really rare to see YouTubers cross over into traditional media successfully. Zach and Michael from Smiling Friends are the only recent examples of online creators with a successful TV show I can think of.
To be fair that's also part due to OneyPlays and Adult Swim having massive overlap and Adult Swim allowing damn near total creative control for creators for a first season of a show.
I'm sure they pay better than YouTube
I mean I think that would depend. Early on I would doubt it would pay as well, and more importantly they also like to take away creative control.
By far the best thing about modern media like YouTube etc, is the fact that it puts creative control into the hands of y'know... the creators. These old media companies would take so much control from them it's insane. And of course not just creative control, but business control as well. They would essentially take the brand and everything.
Just think of how many new things have existed in the past decade thanks to this. E.g. look at how successful people playing video games is, but if you would have went to a traditional media company and said "ok I want to just record myself playing video games" you'd be laughed out the room. Or similarly look at how much amazing content like PBS Space Time exists. Imagine going to Discovery and saying you want to create a science show, but it's largely just one guy going through things in-depth, going into the maths, few visuals, etc, again it'd never happen. They would take away creative control, remove the maths, dumb it down, get rid of half the shit, and then replace half of it with a bunch of random visuals, add a narrator, edit the fuck out of it, etc etc etc.
Hell just imagine how much something like Discovery would fuck this up if they wanted him to do a TV show. They'd completely trash it. It would end up being like this, they'd remove the silence, add in a bunch of other characters, add in a bunch of random drama, etc etc etc. In fact this kind of reminds me of where near the end of Mythbusters there was the /r/smyths edits, which simply put things in linear order, removed a bunch of the silly crap, etc, and it improved the show massively.
Really we've seen an explosion in the types of content out there. There's just so much out there now that just did not exist until recently. I could name a huge number of them and why they would not have even been listened to by traditional media companies.
That said the one advantage that these traditional companies have had is higher budgets for the content. E.g. Mythbusters would not have got the same type of budget if it was online. We have seen some online entities which have managed to develop these high budgets, but they're few and far between still.
Is that torrent still live? I’d love to watch some episodes.
I don't know, why don't you just try it?
Because I am away from my computer for the next few days and I was just wondering if it’s still up. If it isn’t, I won’t make any special effort to check it out later.
You can check them out here. Looks like 19 seeders, so yeah should be more than fine.
Also you might want to look into transmission, it's a torrent client that you can easily access remotely. It's nice as you can easily just download a torrent to your home network from anywhere.
Thanks for the heads up!
Well I'm sorry his show didn't come through, but I'm very excited to hear he's back. Such a great content creator
If the reason it didn't go through is because they wanted it to be some reality-TV nonsense then I'm glad for it. All they'd be doing is stretching these 10 minute videos into 45 minutes and adding no value. I'm only sad he'll miss out on a wider audience, this guy deserves more recognition. I'm never happier to see money leave my account than when Patreon tells me he's put out a new video.
Good time to brush up on primitive tech, given how close we are to WW3.
Y’all know how they say “All pages of Wikipedia lead to Hitler”?
I say “All YouTube videos lead to Primitive Technology at 2am.”
Yeah that's specifically how YouTube works
I mean, the algorithm still bends most YouTube videos to Hitler (or at least neo-nazis) if you stay engaged long enough
YEEEEEESSSSS! FINALLY!
Can someone remind me what this music is from?
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The song is called “The Ecstasy of Gold”
Brilliant song
Just gonna leave this rad theremin version here...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajM4vYCZMZk
The theremin is such a mind blowing instrument. It looks like alien technology.
I own one, they're pretty neat, but they sound awful unless you put a lot of time and money into them (like hers).
Best film score of all time don't @ me
It's also used in a ton of Modelo beer commercials.
Perfect timing since this will be the only form of housing most people will be able to afford soon.

At this rate, dudes gonna have a larger economy than Russia in a year.
Thank you for this public service announcement.
Thank you kindly person.. please...take this award.
Seriously, I was so excited to get that notification!
I enjoy
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
Looks like they're done filming the show with him? (Or, though I'm hoping not, it got cancelled?)

Loooooove this guy!!
I love Primitive Technology, but this vid doesn't fit this sub at all.
What do you mean
It's less than 30 seconds. What else could you want?
It's supposed to be entertaining in some way. This is just a video telling me primitive technology has another upload.
glad he highlighted it too, 5 seconds of zooming in wouldn't be enough

Yes!
Is that why I stopped watching? I thought I just got bored or something. I had completely forgotten why.
This is how I feel when BriTANicK uploads…it’s been a really long time since the last one though :(
WTF? I haven't thought about this channel in years, and just yesterday it came up in conversation with my wife. I look it up and I'm like "oh shit, I guess his channel died 2 years ago". And now, the very next day there's a new video. Fucking weird man.
TRUE KING
Oh hell yeah!
Also, just in time for the nuclear apocalypse! (/s...I hope)
Pssh, two years is hardly a comeback.
how do you create that effect of a controlled moving focus on an image finished with a slow zoom?
Keyframes?
well you see that there's a focus on a wider image and the focus moves around, is it keyframes?
Looks like it, yeah. You only really need three points with keyframes in scale and position. One at the beginning, one at the end of the left movement to show where it ends, and then one marking where it zooms into.
There's something always really exciting about seeing a content creator drop something after a long silence.
There's a youtuber who was really active between about 2011-2016 called Demo D (now goes by Douchebag Chocolat) that went on hiatus for a long time without any real fanfare. After about a year and a bit he dropped a video about some random anime that he was watching then nothing for 3-4 years straight.
Then, one random day, dropped a video on unsettling anime. Blew my mind when it cropped up in my recommended.
Been a year since that dropped which is kind of crazy.
I was just talking to someone about how he could be dead for all I know.
My day is about to get COMFY
The legend never dies.
He was out getting milk.
Do you have any idea how long that takes when you need to find and raise a cow first
2 years?
He was raising the cow first.
They're just saying they have an idea of how long it takes to find and raise a cow for milking.
2 years?
Dad?
He started with an auroch and bred a cow
Quit your bullshit, Dad.
no milk?
👨🦲
And forcibly impregnate it and take the milk from her child?
I’ll impregnate your mom lmao
