The problem with making nukes is not that they’re hard to make (that too), but rather that the resources for them aren’t cheap if you’re not the literal government

Mark Zuckerberg has his own ways of convicting people to buy meta verse

And the U.S government owns most of the mines and refinement methods in the world

But you can still do it cheaply but it takes like... a lot of time and effort, right? So like it's only for really serious villains.

Edit: r/rant

not for a bomb tho, even the cheapest method that doesn't involve isotopic concentration (centrifuge or diffusion) it is still a very work intensive and expensive project

lets look at good ol' uranium-plutonium

you can make yourself a breeder reactor pretty easily (it is pretty simple, very laborious tho) and start with an already highly active elements, tho this would only feasibly work with a fluid (a solid would start turning the outer layer to more active fissiles, but that's it, only those surface layers would be turned to higher concentration, while protecting the inner layer of natural uranium)

the easiest would be to make Uranium hexafluoride since it is a fluid at pretty mild conditions (gas under 100°C I think?) , which would make it much easier to concentrate the fissiles production

anyways, this method only gets you to a certain equilibrium of plutonium production that barely reaches 5% till it boosts transuranics production (the plutonium will be 239 but also 240, 241 and 242, you don't want those), BUT... it's a much more active sample than anything you could get your hands to start with (active radium samples, Americium from fire detectors, maybe radioactive cesium and strontium stolen from spent cancer radiotherapy units)

you separate the plutonium from the uranium and "coat it" onto something porous, and start your breeder again, and you repeat this step until you have a plutonium with enough 239 concentration as to sustain a moderated chain reaction by itself, in that case you change your breeder design to a rod like classic controlled reactor and optimize for 239 production, and if you choose the proper breeder design (experimentation, trial and error)... you should be getting concentrated 239 plutonium (over 80%) with which you can make bombs

dunno about the thorium to uranium 235 cycle since I have 0 experience with it, and that's why I choose Uranium-Plutonium as an example cause the process is very well known and, well, public.... the most difficult part is the uranium plutonium separation and the design to optimize the isotopic conversion, but the U-Pu separation is public domain information (Purex method) and has been performed for non-military applications for 3 decades at least (mostly French patents and companies since they have a lot of fission plants)

Why are you teaching a Reddit comment section on how to make nuclear weapons

ah I just got in a rant, what was supposed to be a half paragraph about how it isn't that difficult ended up being a lil bit longer 😅

anyways, this is pretty basic stuff (in the sense of not requiring above high school knowledge in stem), YouTube is full of great explanation and demonstration videos that go through the science behind each process/step

They aren't teaching them how this is all known science and easily researched

So you wouldn’t call giving a step by step “teaching”

This isn't a step by step at all. It's an incredibly general outline that is missing labor intensive steps.

Like me telling you how to put fuel in a car and turn the key. Would never explain how the internal combustion engine works.

You are still teaching me how.

Thieve fire alarms

I thought it was smoke detectors

From what I understand in order to get enough nuclear material ready for the bomb need to put a lot of radioactive stuff in a centrifuges, like a ton of centrifuges. The problem with this is it makes an unbelievably visible radioactive signature. That's why we're almost sure that Iran or Iraq and even North Korea just don't have access to nuclear weapons. We can literally see if they're making one from space with how visible it is to see. You would never be able to make a nuke in the us because you really need like an underground lead line super lab

that's just simply untrue

just to cut the bullshit, the "radioactive signature" is absolute nonsense

you most definitely don't need centrifuges for isotopic concentration (you can use gas diffusion just as the US did 70 years ago), nor you need isotopic concentration in itself in the first place (plutonium breeders are a thing)

and even if you used them, you put them underground with a lot of ease, we have enormous mining facilities hundreds of meters underground.... heck, may as well put them in the same mine you get your uranium from (which is a pretty common element)

like I said, I'm no nuclear physicist, but this sounds difficult for third world countries to accomplish. In a high tech space like the US I'm sure we could do all sorts of crazy shit to pump out nukes like crazy but I would imagine this is largely unfeasible for third world countries and regular people.

as you said, you are not a nuclear physicist

lets not forget that Russia has been saying that North Korea probably has acces to thermonuclear devices, so there's that

this isn't a complex process in the sense of the science required not being there (everything is known, and has been for the past couple of decades), it's a laborious process, and one that can be accomplished by a not particularly large team of skilled physicists and engineers

it is not a process that requires any modern technology, shit, the US built it with 1940s tech....and NK definitely has decent tech (good enough to be a synthetic drugs provider and black market weapons manufacturer), so their chemists are more than qualified for inorganic processing, and their machining good enough for gun making

by the way, chemical engineer here, I have performed both purex based extractions as uranium refinement, it's not that hard, labor intensive? sure, but not hard....

Bruh if people can make mininukes in their basements I’m pretty sure a country with a small amount of funding could do it

It's more expensive to maintain than make as far as i know most countries made their own nukes few decades ago but gave up after building them because how expensive it is to maintain them

Idk, Doc Brown managed to trick some Libyan terrorists for some in exchange for a pinball machine

Then buy fire alarms and thorium laced lamp filaments

Only $2,000 !? That’s cheap! but wait, $10 Delivery fees, nope finding another seller.

Found a good deal it costs 10 dollars more but freee shipping!

Ah fat finger bot, we meet again

Goddammit, thank you!!!

For a year or so now this piece has been stuck in my head and I couldn't figure out what it was. I was so sure that it was from You Only Live Twice, but then I'd listen to the soundtrack and think "No, close, but it's definitely different," and then a month later I'd think "Wait, was it really different? How did that You Only Live Twice theme go again? It musta been the same. Let me give it another listen...oh...no, definitely different, dang" Repeat every few months.

Now, FINALLY, I can get out of this cycle!! Thank you!

Glad I could be of service :)

That’s the Russian Anthem you are hearing.

Not really- Its communism

Ferb I know What were gonna do today

RUSSSSIIIIIAAAAAA?!?!!??

You literally made a single still image into a video.

Well did you expect them not to use them lol?

This explains the single Jeff with a bomb

🗿

Umm i already have the blueprints 😈

I probably that girl that built an atomic bomb for a science project

Houston, we have a problem

And the best part is, the seller is a bookstore

Shit

cum Why not just?

Did you say- “Start a war?”

A little trolling.

I still hear people saying “War World 3!”

Está información vale oro

Very sus

Its gotta be Ukrane right?.....Right??....

PLEASE GIVE ME SAUCE FOR THIS REMIX OF INCREDIBLES, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAASE

It’s a me Mario

it must be that 14-year old girl who made an atomic bomb for her science project.

dang it, ya caught me, guess ima go to jail again.
