This looks like one of those pieces of art where someone draws a star destroyer in the background of a modern day city

I know, looks unreal

Looks like something out of star wars for sure.

Looks like Russian internet propagandists hard at work!

Man let me just appreciate a cool looking pew pew ship for once

Make a Soviet propaganda style diptych with this and the Caspian Sea monster (Lun class ekranoplan) and take my money

Russian ships in general look rather nice, especially the missile cruisers with the big fat missile tubes along the flanks.

I like the little boat on the side. It’s like one of those little fish that attaches itself to sharks

I like how it looks like a normal fucking cabin cruiser my grandfather would own. And not like.. a safety boat.

It’s nice, but it’s no Lun Ekranoplan.

Gives me red alert vibes, no doubt one of the ships there was based on this. Don't remember which version or which ship, though :')

There is some nice pew pew on this baby. Armament

4 × Strela-3 man-portable air defence missile system launchers, plus 32 anti-personnel missiles; or 2 x Strela 2 quad launchers, manual aiming, infrared homing to 6 km (3.7 mi) at Mach 1.5, maximum altitude of 2,500 m (8,200 ft)

2 × 30 mm AK-630 close in weapon systems with 6,000 rounds each, maximum range of 2 km (1.2 mi)

2 × 140 mm Ogon launchers, 22 rockets each with 132 rockets in total; or 2 x 122 mm retractable rocket launchers

Mines (one set of removable equipment for laying from 20 to 80 mines, depending on their types)

All of that, and it would still be destroyed in the first 15 minutes of an all out war by a drone piloted by some dude in Kentucky.

Tbf, they have some decent CWIS, however i don't see nothing on their AESA counterpart so I can't say

CIWS and C-RAM are only effective against big, expensive incoming munitions, or small amounts of smaller stuff like mortars.

Swarm it with (comparatively) cheap drones and some are gonna get through.

I mean if guys in sheets can pepper a fob with Soviet era mortar fire and a few get through, I feel like the US would do fine against one of these.

Plus, if one of these is being mobilized, shits about to hit the fan anyways.

Yeah drone swarms are 2022.

Yeah a few dozen small sized drones with a block of c4 strapped to them. There isn't much for countermeasures against that as far as I know.

Actually, yes

Pubars Party with Xbox controllers

A lot of it comes down to tactics. These ships are meant to fight as part of a battle group, so in theory they would have other ships assisting in their defense.

That being said, the US Navy also fights as a team, but with better and more reliable command and control systems.

Just like in CQB; speed, surprise, and violence of action can be what make all the difference, even in large Naval battles.

Nevada pretty sure all our drone work is done out of an air base in Las Vegas or outside of it.

Hey, I'm a drone pilot and I operate inside of a random house, but then again my drones aren't technically legal so yeah.

That’s the best kind of legal. The non-technical kind

Neither are those drones where they fly, but that's not stopped anyone...

I wanna know more

I'm making drones with tasers on them.

For fun or for a company? What's the point of it?

Sometimes to stop Crack addicts, but mostly for fun

Neat. Yea I don't see a viable use in remote tasering. I'm sure you have already figured that out. Using a drone to fry a cars electronics however? Or slash tires etc. Might be good to go

It's a type of taser that uses a car battery. Needless to say only one of them has been able to fly and was destroyed from over use the other day. But yeah sounds like fun, I might try what you suggested later.

Saw a Predator fly out of air base in North Dakota right across the highway in front of me. You have no idea where they are based.

The operators are based in Las Vegas.

The drones are based anywhere in the world we want them in the moment.

That's like, one of the whole points of drones, the whole remote operation thing.

//Tangent - drone pilot/operator's must have significantly higher rates of work related mental health problems than other job roles... Right?

Like you commute from your house to what's more or less an office job, just with fancy cubes in the cube farms.

Get your coffee and the mission briefing, then fly it and get your drone back to base before lunch.

Rest of day is mundane... Commute back to your house in a sub development & sit down to dinner with partner & kids... Nightly news on in the background, turn it up when they start showing photos of a location you recognize from work that morning.

And that's how you find out you killed an entire innocent family or blew up an innocent wedding reception because of bad intelligence.

Unless you're a full blown psychopath incapable of feeling empathy, I don't see how it couldn't fuck you up over time.

I call bs on you. You have no frickin idea where these pilot are unless you have some high security clearance, then you wouldn’t be on this site. Unless you work as a foreign agent, go ahead and admit that.

I was granted access to both the predator drone itself and its control module when I was on an afjrotc field trip to Nellis afb in Las Vegas in my sophmore year of high school (2006). Only stipulation was that we had to be relieved of any and all recording devices we may have been carrying. Getting hand on with a predator was one of the coolest experiences of my life. The nose is so light without the surveillance bundle in place that you can lift it with one finger.

Every single article I've ever seen on the topic of air force drone operators has them stationed in Vegas working out of Creech AFB. Example

This is not 100% certainty though, you're right about that... Two seconds of googling turned up two possibilities - of which, guessing you're near the Grand Forks AFB due to it being home to the 10th Air Space Warning Squadron & a weather observation squadron. Source

They operate Global Hawk drones out of there, not predators - source.

So if it was a predator, it was just a pit stop on its way somewhere else.

It's also unclear if the Global Hawk operators are stationed there as well or just the planes and support staff. There's no real reason for them to be.. regardless....

None of this is hard to find. Where squadrons are based is mostly public info. The part of seal team six that does much of the crazy shit that makes the news, the DEVGRU unit, is based in Dam Neck, VA...

Yes they get really bad PTSD

By definition they will be based everywhere. If something is “based” out of one point, best believe 10 more are hidden around secret squirrel style

There's more than just one base with drone/attack wings FYI.

Drones are all over the world yes, but I’m pretty sure everything is flown out of NV

I am not in Nevada and there is an active drone attack wing here that does flying from this station

And some dude in Kentucky backed by a defense budget of world conquering proportions couldn't stop some people living in caves armed with AKs.

You do understand how caves work, right? Deep subterranean places with literal mountains on top of them?

Your point? It's a cool ship regardless, weirdos getting pressed because someone's admiring a Russian craft lol

I have no doubt some guy named Boris in some place In Russia is doing the exact same thing.

U.S and Russia employ the same tactics in my opinion, Russia just has bigger everything tho.

An American Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer would have it wrecked in 30 minutes or less. A Reaper drone from a US carrier fleet would have it destroyed quicker. A carrier strike group, with both combined, and it’s going to last 10 minutes at best.

Literally don’t even need guided missiles or UAVs. A simple round to each fan ends it. The US navy would leave it at sea. We wouldn’t need to do anymore.

LOL it's the other way around.

The US has built huge ridiculously expensive carriers and 1 hypersonic missile will take care of that.

There is no defense against them.

*no publicly known defense

The navy has been developing & testing various railgun and laser based weapons systems since like what, the 90's? Most/Much of that is classified.

Like ship based defensive lasers would solve this quite cleanly - speed of light > hypersonic after all. With the disgusting amount of money we spend on this shit I would hope/expect this problem isn't a problem & we just don't know about it.

When Russia has 4th generation and US is 'testing', so even behind China, then you have problems.

They will also not show their cards.

The 10x more money doesn't deliver due to mil. complex/gov corruption.

The F35 is a perfect example.

The F35 is a perfect example.

The perfect example of an advanced weapons platform that every nation wants to buy from the US? Because that's what the F35 is, despite its ballooned R&D price tag.

What even US generals called 'a complete failure'?

Don't make me list all that is wrong with it, I'll be here all day.

Right, so wrong that everyone in the world wants to buy it. Probably a heap of junk.

It’s not like you can just go on Amazon and order whatever fighters you’d like. If you want to stay friendly with the US, you buy what the US is selling.

So why not buy the other planes we sell, instead?

They don't 'want' to buy it.

NATO is nothing but a maffia style protection racket.

Each year the US bullies their 'allies' into spending more money on defense and complains they don't do enough.

It's a bussiness model.

https://harpers.org/archive/2019/06/the-pentagon-syndrome/

The handful of big contractors pull the strings in Washington and don'tneed to worry too much about quality.

The budget is endless and they know they will get the contracts.

So that's a poor argument in defense of the F-35.

Sad that it(s also your only one and have to repeat it.

But yeah, facts dont really support your view do they?:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2021/02/23/the-us-air-force-just-admitted-the-f-35-stealth-fighter-has-failed/

https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/320295-the-us-air-force-quietly-admits-the-f-35-is-a-failure

But I guess you're the expert.

I hear they're worried about the last one that crashed for no apparent reason in the South China Sea and that the Chinese would get their hands on it.

The only reason they would want it is so they know how not to buid theirs or because they don't want garbage in the water.

Fair point with the f35 - that is a shambles of a program - that said, it makes sense, there's corruption involved for sure, there always is, but the logic that lead to the program was, it would be more cost effective long term for all branches to spend more in a joint effort to build one plane that does all of the things than it is to maintain multiple planes with a lot of overlap in use case.

That's not been tried before at this scale, and it's pretty obvious that both the government & contractors involved dramatically underestimated the cost and complexity of making one plane do all the things - we're watching that bit play out now.

It will be interesting to see how that plays out over the service life of the airframe though - may save enough on maintenance, training, replacement part procurement, and more efficient logistics to make it a success.

As to hypersonic missiles - I don't know if it's fair to say we're lagging behind China or Russia - like sure, I don't dispute your claims at all with regards to current capabilities, but what I was saying now & in part in my initial reply was why develop hypersonic missiles in the first place if you have energy weapons systems that are far superior - railguns & lasers would make such missiles redundant.

The real issue with sinking a US carrier is that you are killing 5000 people and that’s going to really piss the Americans off.

Their existence and their supporting fleet is their defense.

Yes, advances in missile tech have made striking a carrier possible for now.

No this does not render their supremacy obsolete.

It'd be a pyrrhic victory at best.

Kentucky fried Ruski

Dude, we outsource the easy shit like that to India.

Yeah, nice target.

Las Vegas, actually.

It's still a super impressive amount of firepower for what's essentially a transport. I don't think US LCACs have that kind of dakka. And those AAMs mean that drones aren't necessarily out of harm's way.

Of course, all of that is kinda moot because LCACs never operate alone. I think that these likely have more firepower than US LCACs because they're less likely to have total air and sea superiority where they land.

I have a pet conspiracy theory that at some point our kids will be engaged in real combat via video games and not know it.

This guy pew pews.

That looks like more than a abudant array of tools for all kind of violent purposes.

How would you approach of destroying such a beast?

Ballistic missile or huge on shore artillery

Home boy over here with the Intel

Oh, look at you go! Reading right off Vlads little dick spec sheet. Still, yo! Russian designed and built. I’m sure it’ll fail in combat like Chernobyl, feelin’ me now?

You're trying too hard bud

Nah, Commrade! Judging by the down votes, I’m trying just about right! Tell me otherwise Goldilocks

Uhh.... Are you okay?

That person uses reddit as their vehicle to really let the mania out, every post is cockamamie

Commrade! Your propaganda game is weaker than Vlad’s hockey game (trip on rugs much). Just roll up your talking point sheet and go find a Belorussian sex boy to bully into submission

the russians definitely have ppl on reddit (it’s mostly language models and not actual people) but everyone here just hates the way you talk and your attitude i think

What do you use all the different pew pew?

Namings are just like.. “Strela/Стрела” is “Arrow/Bolt”, and “Ogon/Огонь” is just “Fire”.. “Zubr/Зубр” is Bison, so works a little bit. But weapon names are like some kid made them up without thinking much.

Imagine seeing this as a little boy. Big ass TONKA toy to your eyes

I think I had GI Joe toy like this in the 80's.

Imagine Seagal, Depardieu, and Fred Durst jumping off this thing ready to take Kiev.

Putin's Russian power bottoms.

I’d put an old time Tonka truck against this Russian made anchor and the old Tonka would win.

If you really like pew pew, try having someone text you pew pew on an iPhone, if you have one. Fun stuff me and my kids do from time to time.

Sure, man! Enjoy the ongoing Russian propaganda war that is destroying Western democracy one non-critical thinker at a time.

I bet your fun at parties.

...except the communist ones. They probably find your commentary tiring. Oh, no, wait... That's us.

I’m a hoot! The American white nationalists, fully funded by Vlad The Dickless, love it when I show up and remind them to pick their knuckles off the floor and to breathe through their noses. Then, to prove their bone fides, they show me their Futhark tattoos (they watched “Vikings” on TV). But, again, I poop their party by asking if they are frontin’ the elder, younger, or Anglo-Saxon version and what does each rune represent. Then they look at me, knuckles on the floor and breathing through their mouths. See, Russian State stuff isn’t complicated. It is just being tolerated, but eventually the West will realize it is an act of war and begin to respond appropriately. I assume, perhaps, they have and now, Vlad is reminding us he has nukes. That, meaning nuke war, won’t be good for Russian Oligarch/mafia business so Vlad might want to make sure he has Xi taste the wodka first. I’m saying, Vlad’s days are probably limited.

I’ve got my “thoughts and/or prayers” template all locked and loaded for this manifesto 🤦‍♀️

I-I’m not sure how to take that? A threat or support? Either way works for me! None of us can outrun old age.

ah sweet a schizo thread

Sweet! More Putin-Xi propagandists who couldn’t score a point in a middle school chit-talking contest. I mean, CHRIST, I hope the oligarchs aren’t allowing Vlad to waste their money on this kind of incompetence

you should get off the internet for a bit and go outside

Nah! I’m good. Actually, I’m REALLY good at calling out Vlad’s BS.

lmao you're not doing shit, you're complaining on reddit

You’re allowed to think something looks cool even if it comes from a country you don’t agree with how they operate.

No! I dictate what you find cool! And this is not it!

Next I'm not allowed to say that SS troops looked absolutely dapper in their Hugo Boss outfits.

Nah, fam! Judging by the number of angry responses I’ve received, I’m confident this is just Vlad trying to stroke his little peni er ego. But you do you!

You know that fucking Guild of Calamitous Intent has you at the very top of their shit list

Yeah, your stuff isn’t workin’, know what I mean? To vague. You need to be straight.

Sorry, not buying it. I was told to critical think really hard about stuff and I believe that means disagreeing with you.

Naw bro. Freedom of speech? That commie shit

Light a candle bro 🥺

Yer. Yer really not good at this. Like, at all!

Yer

Yup! That’s creative license right there! It’s my way of expressing my total lack of respect for your intellectual capacity. Dumbing it down fer ya, Jethro! See, like that!

Keep pissing yourself 🤟🏻

[deleted]

That is the single most nonsensical thing anyone outside a Trump rally has ever said.

While I'm 100% on board with the danger of Russian psyops re western democracy, I don't think this is their style. They get much more bang for their buck when they don't mention Russia at all, and focus on dividing the population with antivax and anti-government conspiracy theories. Portraying Russia as a threat is actually kind of antithetical to their goal of encouraging us to fight with each other, and to dismiss Russia as not important enough to warrant any attention.

You mean like Vlad showcasing his nukes? Yeah imma take a hard pass on your reasoning. Right now, Vlad is probably feeling uncomfortable. His oligarchs don’t want this. China is uncomfortable because Vlad is forcing them to choose between the Russian GDP that is probably smaller than Los Angeles County, and the US and EU economies that allow Xi to provide his people with prosperity. Vlad has over played his hand and has to go through with some kind of effort in Ukraine but if he does, he makes all the wrong people suffer, which increases the likelihood he ends up zipped in a suitcase with a lock on it and ten suicide shots to the back of the head. My point: Vlad is far from being rational right now. When you play your hand and people on the other side call and your play is to threaten nuclear war, you’ve lost. You or I would know that and throw in our cards and take our losses, but Vlad’s ego won’t allow it to happen. He’s caught between that suitcase and his ego, and I’ll bet he chooses suitcase and then hopes he can find a way to win back the mafia and oligarchs who will be bleeding money in an unprecedented manner. So. Yes, this is Vlad trying to show Europe what he has

Fascinating take. I'm not being snarky, here, I honestly hadn't looked at it that way.

Putin, up until now, seems on the whole to have made very rational moves (not ethical, of course, but quite clever in terms of advancing his own goals), so the thought of him painting himself into a corner this severely seems unlikely on the face of it.

On the other hand, that may be falling for the trap of accepting at face value the strong, savvy public image he's built of himself, much as Trump believers rationalized his irrational choices as "4D chess." 🤔

Also,

which increases the likelihood he ends up zipped in a suitcase with a lock on it

I knew he was beholden to the oligarchs, but is his position that precarious? I figure he has enough personal wealth to buy his own private army if it comes to it, no? Or is this the sort of situation where all of his wealth and power rests on the goodwill of those people, and can be frozen at whim? If I were him, I'd want to have an exit plan like, yesterday. I wonder if he's bought a small island somewhere.

The Greeks have a bunch too, but I guess that’s not really edgy right now.

Actually that is a truth. In Russia we have whole companies (that belongs to Putin's friend) that only job is writing right things in internet. Google for "Russian trolls factory/ Prigozhin's trolls factory".

Oh. Trust me, my Russian Patriot, we know all about the Russian troll farms. They’ve dumbed down a lot of otherwise reasonable people in the US and Canada (look at those truckers). Be safe! Maybe one day the little people like you and I can put an end to the insanity of oligarchs everywhere.

Til in russia influencers are called trolls

Don't worry about it, actually your country is pretty late in the game, U.S had them since almost 20 years now, China has them too, but they're more focused internally.

There's bound to come some sort of regulation about it... it's messing with people a lot, but I suppose as long as the U.S still is winning the propaganda war, they have no incentive to ask for a cease-fire on bots.

So I reckon if you step it up some more, there will be incentive for an agreement.

We make big stuff, Russia makes big stuff

I’d say you’re grasping at straws

This is old shot. Aren't most government issues statames/pictures/newsreel are propaganda

True, but this is Vlad trying to flex and his internet trolls trying to remind the world that Russia has things. I like to remind Vlad and his clowns that they’d be speaking German if the US didn’t supply them with armor and tanks against the NAZIs because you know, Stalin was a genius.

By winter 1941 Germany lost its momentum, by that time land lease didn't kick in full gear. There were Matilda present at battle of Moscow . I think land lease equipment made up less then 10% of what was used for the defend Moscow.

That what you think?

it kind of seems like that’s just what happened

Look up defenses of Moscow and look at the land lease equipment that was used. Most important item were trucks. With out them the Red army couldn't have made any real offensive.

Trucks? I’m thinking tanks and artillery saved the day, but you cling to your Russian delusion. Your military is notorious for running and hiding and waiting for the weather to do what the military cannot. Fortunately, Commrade, global warming due to Putin’s fossil fuels will take away that singular defense of Mother Russia. Now your boys will have to save the country and I’ll bet that prospect does not bother Xi at all. By the way, you all cool with Putin basically surrendering the borderlands to China? Putin made a cheap prostitute out of Mother Russia and you all are cool with that? What has happened to my Russian friends?

Why do you have to be so aggressive and loud about your stupidity?

Oh. That’s easy, my Dude! Because I believe in my heart of hearts a) I don’t have to make anyone feel comfortable when what they find amusing (Vlad’s big murder toy propaganda ) is horrifyingly dangerous and a very real threat to Ukraine and the peace and stability of Europe. b) because I’m pretty damn harmless compared to Vlad’s penchant for poisoning, torturing, imprisoning, and “suiciding” people who dare to confront his insanity. c) because to me it is all the people who make excuses as to why playing the useful idiot and pride themselves on their stupidity that I find to be unconscionable. I make no apologies for what I’ve done here today. As a matter of fact, it provided me with real agency and I am wildly gratified.

There is a reason why journalists don't have long life spans in Russia, unless they work for Sputnik

I'm not Russian. I read enough about WWII to know that it was logistics that won the war and not tanks or artillery. Do you know about USSR and Japanese War of 1939? Before start of WWII and you know who Zhukov was?

It's not very good propaganda if you ask me. This doesn't make their military look strong or cool; just looks like some dope signed off on an Elon Musk side project that shouldnt have made it past brainstorming.

Bro if this is real I’d say there allowed to use propaganda on it

I mean they’ve been used in exercises before

I don't think you know how propaganda works. Wouldn't they want to spin Russia in a positive light?

My first thought was "Holy shit, that's huge! I bet it would fuck everything up that it came against."

Then I read the propaganda message and laughed that they got me with their propaganda.

Do you actually think that every piece of fucking media Russia produces is propaganda? Man, you're so fucking brainwashed it's depressing

If you can’t see this for what it is, you are either a Kremlin troll or the reason Facebook is still in business. I mean, who defends Putin?

Bruh, when did I defend Putin? I just said that not everything that comes out of Russia is propaganda. I don't like Putin, nor have I ever been to Facebook. Do you think that if I don't hate every aspect of Russian culture I'm a Putin supporter?

Dude has taken in so much of his own side's propaganda that he's become delusional. It's sad tbh.

Shut the fuck up

Daaammnnn! Commrade, you are too tender for this big world. If you can rip Vlad’s lips from Xi’s sphincter, ask him to be reassigned to the nursery or something. I mean, I haven’t even used my good stuff, yet and you are already throwing a fit.

Buddy we’re allowed to enjoy cool looking things

What you are doing, not my buddy, is giving oxygen to Vlad Putin’s propaganda program and I don’t have to let him have that without paying the truth tax. I’m sure the Ukrainian people are glad you are enjoying being a tool in Vlad’s game.

fuck off CIA drone

My Commrade! Did your feel-feels take a hit? Maybe suck on Vlad’s nipples for comfort

Think you're Russia obsession is getting the better of you.

I also don't care for your gay fantasies.

Maybe spend more time on those subs insted of being delusional and seeing 'ooo Russian propaganda' everywhere.

It will be better for your mental heath.

Or stay paranoid on meth, whatever sis.

Your Russian accent is bubbling through. That you, Vlad?

I'd love to see some cool underwater pics of it sitting at the bottom of the Black Sea.

Looks like Russians only know how to excell at anything that has to do with war and destruction. Meanwhile...old people in the outer provinces are being left to fend for themselves and starve to death. CONGRATS PUTIN, YOU DISGUSTING MORON.

Yeah that human standing there in a bright yellow jacket shows how fake this

You talking to me? I’m sure it’s a thing. I’m saying it’s purpose is propaganda.

Spme cars and weapons are ok But people are total shit, so this propaganda only works for total foreigners or third-world countries Hate this fucking Russian army and those tin cans for meat on the photo.

We see western propoganda all day long on reddit. Fuck off, seriously.

Ocean Wars, really.

I could see this landing on the beaches of Kashyyyk.

Or something out of command & conquer

Or command and conquer

District 9 vibes for me

Guy flying that thing: “Now THIS is pod racing!”

Pretty cool how a few little things trick the eye. I think it's mostly the vapor and dust getting kicked up by the hovercraft causing it to look like it's farther away than it really is, and obscuring the bottom of the bow- you can see that it's not actually that far behind the second vehicle once you look for a bit.

But there's also the helicopter in the far background in the upper right- if you look quickly it seems like it could be at the same distance as the hovercraft, like it's coming in for a landing. In which case holy shit that thing is like half a dozen city blocks long. Given the size of the windows on the hovercraft's bridge relative to the helicopter, though, I'm pretty sure it's way closer.

Like a perfect storm of optical illusions. 57m long is still really darn huge, regardless.

I think that orange thing in front of the bridge is a person. Especially if you compare it with the size of the life preserver.

Yeah, this thing is small in regards to anything else like it. Looks cool, but that's Russia's whole game. Take away the smoke and mirrors and I bet it's a nightmare of under-engineering. Hovercrafts are a 90s fever dream.

If I remember correctly they're terribly inefficient. Like barrels per mile, not miles per gallon, kind of bad.

the size of the windows

Or the person just in front, who I assume is not 30ft tall!

Ah yes, the unseen detail that only makes it even better.

Russians are actually giants!

The telephoto lens also helps

I'd say it's a combination of items in the foreground, and a high focal length with a small aperture, so it has depth of vision while giving the illusion of the background being larger/closer than it is.

Here, this gif demonstrates it well

https://i.gifer.com/A6xc.gif

That’s really neat

Also the color. Blue light scatters, so far away objects take on a blue tint (think of how people draw mountain layers in landscape paintings). You sort of expect the tank and hovercraft to be the same color, so the fact that it's significantly blue-shifted also makes it look far away.

Atmospheric perspective! On foggy/polluted mornings in big cities it can make the skyscrapers look absolutely impossibly huge.

Its not small. Is it 100 feet (26 meters) longer than US Navy LCAC hover craft.

relative size (compared to foreground vehicles) is exaggerated by the telephoto lens

Numbers "770" are approximately 2 meters high, you can see a door right from them.

https://www.reddit.com/r/WarshipPorn/comments/hhg0yn/russian_zubr_class_hovercraft_the_largest_in_the/

Irl it is smaller than it looks in the pic but it’s still massive

Reminds me of the Avengers flying HQ

Looks like something out of a cut scene in Command & Conquer.

Putin is metal

r/imaginarystarships

True, but the picture is deceptive and makes it look a lot bigger than it actually is.

I mean that looks about as big as I thought. It’s still ducking huge.

Doesn’t seem very effective either

Personally I thought in the photo it appeared the size of an aircraft carrier because of the mist in the front making it look like it's further away. But yeah, even so the sheer size of it seems to stretch viability to its breaking point. Very much fits the stereotype of Russian engineering design, lol

Would you rather fight 100 giant ducks or one giant tiny hovercraft?

Hovercraft.

Ducks are dicks

It doesn’t look ineffective. I imagine it’s uses are limited, but it would be effective given specific scenarios-like where the tanks got stuck in the mud last week.

I'm no expert but I don't believe a ship on water is going to run into a whole lot of mud

It’s a hovercraft, it’s amphibious. It’s whole purpose is that it can transition from water to land to ice to mud and keep moving, where other vehicles would get stuck.

Wrong, the tanks that the hovercraft carry are amphibious, the hovercraft is for use on water only, the cushioning and being a hovercraft allow it to go straight up to a beach and shit tanks out and then turn around, at most only half of the ship touches ground, it does nothing more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zubr-class_LCAC

Wrong. The hovercraft is amphibious as well. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air-cushioned_landing_craft “. This allows troops and material to access more than 70 percent of the world's coastline, while only approximately 15 percent of that coastline is available to conventional boat-type landing craft. Typical barriers to conventional landing craft are soft sandy beaches, marshes, swampland, and loose surfaces.”

Yes typical hover landing crafts can do that, Zubr class ones can not.

Typical small* hover landing craft made to carry no more than 20-25 men can do that. Can't believe that idiot is really trying to argue that "the world's largest, with a standard full load displacement of 555 tons" can sail over land especially when it never has and never will XD

Redditors love talking about shit they don't understand

It would be very effective in moving tanks and troops across the Black Sea for an amphibious assault along the Ukrainian shore.

And before someone says Ukraine could shoot it with its Navy or Air Force remember Russia would target those ships and aircraft and missiles in the opening days and gain total air and naval superiority before taking that risk.

Why the hell are they driving this thing up a public beach lol

Does it even work as intended? Seems to be just a really shitty expensive boat

That just looks like it's the same size as in OP's pic. Big.

I need to learn this photography technique...

For reasons...

"Yes, my cock is so big it creates dust clouds around itself. Ladies will just swoon for dusty cock!"

Dusty Cock should be your stage name.

Ziggy Cockdust.

I'm sorry. I'll show myself out.

Get a zoom lens, and stand really far away, with halfway between you and the big ship the cars. It's like those shots of the moon where it looks really big with a small polar bear in the foreground.

Yeah just look at the orange floatation rings affixed to the side to give you an idea of how big a person would be on the deck

There’s even a person on it so you can see how big a person would be

here is a video of it, somewhere in the middle of that video https://youtu.be/jzv-MnTKfdM

I mean this is the second time today that something Russian military related makes it to r/all. First the tsar bomb, now this.. maybe more? even if not, upvoting scary Russian shit seems just what the Kremlin would like to see right now, or am I wrong?

It must be annoying for the homophibic Russia leadership that wherever they go with the this thing, it shoots out a giant Gay Rainbow Flag special effect

hahaha, love this one

I've noticed A LOT more Russian propaganda lately on the front page. Usually innocent stuff, but it's meant to draw a picture of glorious Russia in people's mind and its honestly disturbing watching it happen because it's obvious WHY. Troll farms are hard at work currently.

EDIT: The trolls are out in force. That or russias done such a good job filthy casuals will shill for them now.

EDIT EDIT: https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/american-political-science-review/article/why-botter-how-progovernment-bots-fight-opposition-in-russia/D8A8A74976408CF7EC329827AFFFD3FC

I felt the same way when those videos of extremeley tall, slender, attractive and fashionable chinese people walking in slow motion went viral. They were made as if to pretend that they were average people, not models. It was a weird propaganda moment

It's painfully obvious at times when I scroll through reddit and there are lots of positive russia posts right around the time russia is getting lots of negative press. China does the same thing. It's honestly amazing that people (again they're probably paid trolls) don't understand this isn't something that's up for debate. These countries pour tremendous resources into controlling an online narrative. They do it because it works.

And the US works their propaganda machine too, creating epic hollywood war films whenever they need more cannon fodder. And probably a million more ways that are too subtle for my peanut butter brain to pick up on

Oh absofuckinglutely lol, the US also doesn't need to do much in terms of propaganda as companies will gladly do it for them. The corporate world and the US are basically one in the same.

Something non-negative about China=must be paid shills. We only allow negative stuff to be upvoted about China.

yes, exactly. Russia got called out on their plans, while some may argue about it I think this strategy had huge impact apparently.

[deleted]

You clearly don't understand what Russia has been caught doing online. This is their play and always has been. This has been going on for YEARS now. So you're either ignorant or a Russian troll. Lol

Russian troll ultra-confirmed

I mean media make simpletons like you seek Russian agents under your bed and behind every post that mentions Russia without shitting on it, but somehow it's Russian propaganda you should beware.

Old trick from Goebbels' (literally, that's the man who coined it) hat: to create a hatemongering narrative you should claim that your side is under attack (scary Russian bots) and that anyone who questions your narrative are either agents of the enemy or a collabortionist. The trick might be old, but apparently people are still as dumb as they were back then.

Lol I'm guessing you're a paid troll too or also ignorant as this isn't something that's up for debate. Russia is well known for trying to influence people through social media troll farms. They have been doing it for years and it's WELL documented.

No mate you don't understand, we should not be skeptical about this fearmongering propaganda because the fearmongering propaganda said that this fearmongering is legit. Wait a minute... are you a KGB officer?!!

Jeez, dude. For your own fucking sake, drop the Internet for a week. Go camping, touch some grass... it's fucking surreal rn. Seriously.

Lol do you just repeat the same thing over and over again? Typical Russian Troll ™️. Never know when to give up 🤣

Oh no, I totally blew up my cover by not suddenly agreeing with your bs after you tried it for the second time. Now I have to report to my supervising senior officer that will send me straight to gulag.

People googling more about Russian military capabilities due to the news finding some cool vids, then deciding to post them on reddit for karma is not a hard leap of logic.

Acting like posting a couple pics on reddit is a plan by the Russian state due to Ukraine is pretty asinine.

Seems to me the United States wants its people thinking of Russia as an imminent threat and they want everyone to think Russia is about to invade Ukraine. I don’t know if that’s true but this could be coming from either side.

Hover crafts don’t seem very practical to me. Just looks like a big piece of shit destined for the garage that you never really took out more than once a year max.

The us used them alot in iraq and even in korea its just a way to make a boat than can move stuff pretty quickly

What are you a bootlicker who sits around masturbating to the thought of any kind of military brush up so you can pretend your fetish for violence and mass murder has a practical purpose? Or a shill of the military industrial complex? Or both?

Oh, wait, I see you make a few video game comments now and then… must be a completely legit person 🙄

I was just making a joke about how the ship looks, moron.

“Are you ok?” Hahaha are you going for the internet troll cycle?

You boring uncreative death cult scumbag

What are you talking about

It’s just a cliche phrase all internet trolls use and you’ve already used like two or three others, one more for “the cycle”

Death cult scumbag because you phillate the military by promoting their killing machines. Fuckin fanboys make me sick 🤩🤩🤩 OMG a boat with guns!!

Who are you even talking to right now you have just responded to everything which a bunch of random shit

umh, well russia has taken most military units over from all the country on the border of Ukraine, meaning pulling armored units and 10's of thousands of troops from as far as Vladivostok. they are dead serious, but getting called out like the Cia did (they risked alot of intelligence assets by doing that) means they are afraid now of bigger losses since they don't know if detailed battle plans got leaked ( just in : kill lists and targeted assassination lists got leaked which seem very credible). so they are pulling off damaged equipment and signal retreat while trying to sneak in way more new units (this hot called out).. by now this whole thing is already really expensive and putin lost either way, he fucked up big time because originally he pushed for confrontation because his inner problems got huge. putin follows old playbooks, so he is in the corner now where he is most dangerous. all this what you see on front page is to spark pressure within the west in the Form of anxiety, the reason for that is russia has only one option left which won't work. and that is trying to convince the west to go all back to normal...

Upvote away. Aging Soviet hardware. Tsar Bomba. Who cares. Good job Soviet Union, too bad Russia doesn't have a time machine.

Putin sucks. If he wants to waste wealth/material/human life invading Ukraine; good luck with that. Just weakening Russia further. All according to China's plan.

Russia aka China's vassal state. Which makes Putin, Winnie the Pooh's bitch.

Looks like you have easy targets to stop the fucking thing from working too…. Fast spinny blades vs Raytheons booms of doom.

Looks like something out of the RTS game Supreme Commander. Absolute unit.

That has got to be about the loudest vehicle in the world.

Maybe not that loud

The perspective of the picture makes it look wayyyyyyyy bigger.

It's 57 m long and has a crew of 31. How is that not ginormous?

As someone who grew up around airboats, this was my first thought too.

But you have heard it

The first thought I had upon seeing it was WHIRRRR

that's what actually kills the enemy, not the guns, those are just for aesthetic

Reminds me of Subnautica in a disturbingly odd way

This ecological biome matches 7 of the 9 preconditions for stimulating terror in humans.

Detecting multiple leviathan class lifeforms in the region. Are you certain whatever you're doing is worth it?

I got so scared when that happened, and it was pitch black. I turned off the game and didn’t play it for 6-7 months. I have a fear of water that’s beyond irrational.

People talking about reapers and here I am flipping my shit over the stupid kamikaze puffer fish in the shallows.

Mannnn, those ones are so annoying!!! Especially if you don’t have anything to swim fast yet

"BbrrrrrrooolAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHoooom."

Yeah, fuck you too pufferfish.

Yuuup I couldn’t make it to the end of that game

I finally did, and it was pretty cool. But maaaaaaaaan I struggled for a while. Once I knew where things were though, I just stayed away from big stuff.

I have that too, so I looked up where the leviathans were on the wiki when the game was still in early access. Then when it was released I decided to play it again to see whats new. Got a good ol scare when I found out that they changed the leviathan locations at some point.

Oh man, I can imagine the fright lol. That game is cool like that too. Every time I scream at a video game, I can’t help but laugh afterwards.

r/thalassophobia

What’s funny is that my fear goes even further with that. Cuz Im even scared of being in a pool by myself . This one movie had an alligator or a crocodile in the pool and it ate a kid. And ever since then, I think about invisible water predators trying to get me. And let’s not start on rivers.

Safe to say I have to some water related problems to overcome. And I’m 28 lol

Thalassophobia in action

Was just playing Subnautica and I got that message, that biome was indeed terrifying at night

All the biomes are terrifying at night

Safe shallows ain’t

Even safe shallows has reaper sharks at night.

Oh yeah I suppose, for some reason later game literally all the reaper sharks migrated from the forest to the safe shallows outside my base, killing all my fish in the grab trap and taking my scanner cameras.

I must commit mass genocide now.

It is your primary objective to swim closer to that b e a u t i f u l creature

Funny, I just started playing that game yesterday after hearing good reviews. Problem is, I just can't seem to get into it. Am I doing something wrong? I've been swimming around grinding materials but I constantly need to come up for air and I have no clear direction on where to go or what to do.

When you start getting the vehicles, the game gets a lot better

I had the glider thing but then it randomly disappeared, which was unfortunate

You probably dropped it somewhere

As for what to do, you need to just search for components to craft important items, (larger O2 tank, all the tools, vehicle components (i recommend you look for the seamoth as early as possible) etc.) then your next step is exploration. The entire map feels very large if you have not explored all of it. You will need to find and remember the locations of a few places so I suggest crafting a few beacons, and placing them where needed. Once you explore more of the important locations, your objective becomes more clear.

Cool thanks, apprciate it. Any way to find where I dropped the item?

The glider probably not, real vehicles will be marked on your hud if you get them.

Unless you can backtrack, which is quite difficult, for obvious reasons, there is very little chance you will find it. But they are not too difficult to make so if you cant find it, just make another :) The vehicles in the game have their own beacons so you dont have to worry about losing those!

At first I didn't know you could craft beacons so I was using boats instead lol

Basically, when it doubt, go deeper. If you can't go any deeper, you should be collecting resources to build whatever thing will allow you to go deeper. The different biomes will have different technologies to scan, so make sure you explore each one.

Keep searching for schematics, remember the goal is to get rescued. You have to leave the safe shallows to make that happen.

~~Get rescued~~ kill every leviathan FTFY

Look for parts on the ocean floor to scan with your scanner. Usually in boxes in little mini wreck sites. Also constantly look in your blueprints for something new to make.

Make sure youre listening to radio messages, going to the rescue sites, and fix the crashed ship ASAP

Regarding the oxygen issues:

Go to the workbench and find what you need to upgrade your air tank. After that, you should (if not immediately then very quickly) have another upgrade path for an even better oxygen tank. Later on, you’ll come across at least one or two more.

But after the first two O2 tanks, build yourself a simple “base” so you can install a vehicle bay. Use it to then build a Seamoth—a small submersible that can be used to travel quickly, dive deeper, and expand inventory space slightly, but most importantly, it serves as a “safe” location that you can re-enter underwater at any depth to regain your O2; rather than rushing the exploration of things like underwater caves, you just park your Seamoth and swim back to it when your oxygen gets low, then rinse and repeat.

At a glance i realize this all looks like a lot, but the materials required for all these things—the tanks, the “base” (just keep it simple), the vehicle bay, and the submersible—are very easy to find and/or manufacturer at the workbench. Doing these things will significantly mitigate the O2 issue you’re having, and from there things get much better and more interesting.

Same boat. I got pretty bored with it after a while.

It doesn't hold your hand so you need to discover and explore. Material grinding is usually not super necessary.

Though I'm a Subnautica enthusiast, they didn't do the greatest job helping new players understand how to advance. It makes the game feel more organic, but can be frustrating. I don't think my first play through was less enjoyable for having looked up the locations of a couple key pieces of tech. Just keep exploring as deep as you can in all directions, and if you don't find the things you need to scan (which generally allow you to go deeper) or the resources to build them, check the wiki.

Not really. At different points there are triggers which give a bit more direction, but lots of swimming around and trying to find new things.

Maaaaan once you get the Submarine, shit is cool and made grinding for materials a lot easier

Idk if someone already mentioned this, but I had a similar issue. What I found helps a lot is to always be focusing on an upgrade. Try and find all of the materials in the first biome, check caves for metals. Upgrading your suit and building all the tools will take you in the direction of all the cool stuff.

Just give it a chance, in the beginning it seems hard but as you start building the story will get interesting and the world down there is so awesome, one of the prettiest game visually

Scan everything you come across, and make a new glider if you lost your original.

Just craft stuff. Follow along with the story. Trust me, Subnautica is one of the best survival games ever made. Keep playing, once you get a certain amount of hours in, stuff starts happening.

I was the same as you and didn't really enjoy the aimless grind at first. Google how to make the sea moth and whatnot, and the game becomes much easier and a lot more fun. Also I liked the mode where you didnt have to worry about food and water more too.

Edit: also if you're not aware, listen to the radio messages in your pod and they'll direct you to certain key locations. Also eventually you'll have a compass to which makes it all easier.

Buddy had the same problem. Mostly because he ignored all the radio signals that come from the other escape pods or the degassi crew

Keep playing. Once you get the seamoth the game gets really fun

Build all the equipment. You can skip the air pipe thing and underwater storage bins.

The core gameplay loop is the game will give you places to go check out. Check them out and scan shit on the way there and when you get to the locations. You shouldn't have to explore blindly.

You have to read your PDA but you can ignore the Flora and Fauna section.

You can build stuff underwater. Hull Reinforcement is important if you want to do so; you don't have to worry about using Foundation if you don't want to.

If you want to go in blind, there are 2 critical tips you need:

  1. !You can slash plants for seeds!<

  2. Have you found a Jaffa Cup? >!There's a critical PDA you need to find which will give you a location to pursue!< >!that's 500m down.!< >!That PDA is located on the same island as the Jaffa Cup.!< >!Travel clockwise around the island from the middle buildings. It will be on the pathway.!<

And then for late game, but you can ignore this:

3. >!Pretty trees make good base locations.!<

If you’re finding it a bit tedious, consider turning off thirst and hunger. It might feel like “cheating”, but if you’re finding the game to be a grind, it’s a good way to speed things up and be able to focus less on repetition, and more on the joy of exploration and invention. (Besides, you’ll still have oxygen and health to create urgency.)

I played the first game on survival and the sequel with thirst and hunger deactivated, and didn’t regret it at all. Just freed me up to focus on the parts I liked.

Real life just like vibeo Gayme! Gibe upvotes!

For some reason I started thinking about Red Alert 2.

Looks like a red alert scenario

Damn I miss Red Alert 2. I’d buy a good successor in a heartbeat

I'm afraid the age of RTS is dead :/. It's all about e-sports now.

Wasn’t an RTS (StarCraft) the only esport for a decade or more?

exactly, and SC2 is still going. Not exactly sure what the other person is on about!

RushCraft is hardly a RTS for the masses. It’s just a bunch of Koreans beating us in 3 seconds flat

maybe if you're diamond and above playing on Korean server

Lol we've been here since the UMS glory days of brood war battle.net my guy, no one's going to give you your crown for sucking Korean cock, it's already heavily on the menu these days

Best sc2 players are like half Korean and the other half European

I like how one of the best fightjet pilots in south korea decided that playing starcraft profesionally was a beter career and that most of the country agreed because they were just fking famous.

I mean, RTS games still exist, but it's just not 'in fashion' as much as it was 15 years ago. Starcraft was a pioneer not just for esports, but for RTS games... and then it never changed.

I just never got into Starcraft. C&C was just my speed. Still is, downloaded the remaster from EA just a while ago. If they didn’t have that IP I woulda dropped them years ago lol

OpenRA is way better than the remastered version. The original, and even up to RA 3 is way too claustrophobic in comparison.

https://www.openra.net

Thanks for this!

Pretty sure the first RTS I ever played was Warcraft II lol. C&C was great. I loved most of their games... did you ever play Renegade? That shit was super fun.

Dude renegade was like the Duke nukem we wanted, just 10 years early (or 7 late, whatever lol)

I love that game, but I see some of the most racist vile stuff in chat. What's wrong with people?

Just the nature of the beast with online gaming. I run into it pretty much any time I play online, console or pc (though definitely more often on occasion). It gets pretty fucking old after a while.

SC2 basically abandoned casuals and went all-in on matchmaking/esports, allowing games like LoL and DotA to snatch up all those players looking for something to play. Used to be custom maps in WC3 and SCBW was where all the casuals hung out in RTS-like games. SC2 didn't even have an arcade or lobby for custom maps for the first few months.

Thought you meant Supreme Commander 2. SupCom1 and FA multiplayer is decent

Rts esport dosnt have the mass viewer support. Lol and etc are great cus spectators don't care about the early game they just want to see fights/team fights

RTS are much more action per minute than MOBAs. RTS are also usually a better viewer experience in many ways. But people play the MOBAs or shooters more and not as much the RTS so without the playerbase you also lack the viewers.

Starcraft launched in '98. EVO started in '96, QuakeCon started in '97 and those are just some of the better known ones.

CPL was a thing from 1997 with Quake, and CS had major tournaments since 2000.

Age of empire 2 kinda made a comeback in the competitive rts esports game

Thanks to Microsoft, we may yet see a sc3

Oh fuck, thanks to them we may NEVER see a SC3

I lost all trust in blizz, so nothing really to lose with microsoft

Play OpenRA

What about nebulous fleet command? What about falling frontier? What about age of empires 4? What about company of heroes 3? What about total war warhammer? What about beyond all reason? There's still plenty of good rts to be had that are new and/or coming up.

Company of Heros 3 is in development.

RTS as a genre is not dead. Stop that.

No age of empires is still thriving.

*HOT TAKE ALERT* RTS isn't dead, but it was always a niche that didn't have much room to expand. It was a genre that just happened to be popular with people who played computer games in the 90's and 00's. You can find plenty of modern RTS's on Steam but few have gotten popular.

Wasnt age of empires 4 recently released ?

At least there's AOE?

Star Trek Armada 3 mod for sins of a solar empire is a thing - that is an awesome RTS

I’ve been enjoying AOE4 as a casual player, I think it’s a well received RTS overall

Company of heroes 2 is like 5 bucks

Waiting on CoH3 to come out l

Aoe 4 is out and has active multi-player. Has issues but the dev team seems to try and address them.

You need to check out Deserts of Kharak and the rest of the Homeworld series.

Actually anything by Blackbird Interactive is gold.

Hell, RTS is thriving ATM. Iron Harvest, AoE4, the soon to be released Starship Troopers RTS, Total War: Warhammer, Company of Heroes 4 and way more.

Hell there's a new dune rts comeing out.

Yea sad times. C&C Generals still has an ok player base. AoE too, of course.

That was true about a year or two ago, but they are coming back thanks to Microsoft.

I’m afraid your brain is dead

I assume that Red Alert 3 wasn't a good successor?

It was alright but personally it didn’t feel quite the same. Red Alert 2 was just riding that cusp of new future tech and old gritty warfare with nuclear reactors and dirty engines and the like. 3 felt to me like all the tech was too polished and the fighting didn’t have the same grounded feel personally.

It’s like comparing the Iron Man 1 suit, mechanical but not outside the realms of possibility, to his nanobot suits later down the line like in Infinity War.

I also disliked how they went from a bunch of different countries you could play as, each with their own unique perk, to just 3.

I dislike his modular suit... I hated the nanobot suit.... except for that infinity stones trick, that almost makes up for it.

The only thing I dislike more than the nano suit, is he gave Spider-Man one too. The first Stark suit was enough.

Gosh I hate the iron spider! I like the lost unsure teenager delivery of Tom Holland, but everything else the MCU did around Spiderman totally ruins it to the point I've not even seen far from home.

What they did was fine. It's not at all far off from the Spider-Man of the comics. He can't be a perpetual lost teenager.

Not complaining about him developing. I'm complaining about them making aunt Mae youthful. I'm complaining about them giving sweet Mary Jane's moniker to obnoxious Michelle Jones and making Flash a debate loser. But mostly I hate the iron spider suit. Spider-Man's suit is supposed to just be durable costume and other than maybe his webs, there's nothing really special about it... his powers are HIS POWERS, not tech.

I'm just sad that Renegade never really went anywhere. Such potential :(

Red Alert 2 had far more dirtier thoughts than 3.

Generals was way better imo. Especially after the Zero Hour expansion.

Zero hour was incredible. Shame there's nothing modern like it.

I would die happy if they remastered it

Oh hell yeah.

I don't really understand why there isn't something similar around. With modern technology it's seems relatively easy to make.

Red Alert 2 had Kari Wuhrer.

Red Alert 3 had Jenny McCarthy.

Red Alert 3 was not a worthy successor.

Yeah, blonde Tanya was a mistake.

Tim Curry cut scenes is enough to classify 3 in legendary status

They did remaster it a year or so ago!

Edit- not ra2

[deleted]

Oh my bad, you are right. I did enjoy the remaster of ra1 though!

I still hear "construction complete" sometimes.

And “insufficient funds”

I bought a command and conquer bundle on Origins that had all the games for like $12. I heard somewhere that they were remaking something from the collection

There is Red Alert 3

You can still play RE2

For king and country

I think we need to have this version of hovercraft in C&C RA (or RAII - my pref) . We have that little transport (US) but this more matches the ideas of the Mammoth tank and the Blimp. Over sized, outdated but so big and dangerous that it compensates for the age by simply being a juggernaut. Would love these added to an expansion.

Edit: To be clear, I mean an expansion of the game rather than an expansion of the Russian empire.

Kind of like the Mammoth MkII in Tiberian Sun, but maybe a bit bigger.

The mammoth Mk2 was just like super endgame OP. I love it, but I mean, if the enemy starts to get to ya, deploy 4 mammoths and it’s over

[deleted]

Dude three star infantry is massively op in the right settings you’re right

In base TS without mods, you can only make one MK2 at a time. They're still vulnerable to air attacks and EMP, too. But yeah with mods and multiple MK2, that's a win.

Yeah I’m getting the Mk2 walker from TS and the Mammoth Tank from TW mixed up. The Kane’s wrath expansion had “super units” like the Mk2. Some massive Zone tank that Hoover’s up Tiberium, Kane has a 6 legged super walker, and the alien guys have a mothership. Same idea, each has one weakness, typically air.

matches the ideas of the Mammoth tank and the Blimp

So we can be free!

Vova. Vlad is Vladislav. Vova is Vladimir.

I don't get the politics around it.

Sure, Russia would have access to the Black Sea. A warm port for once.

But the only way out is via the narrow passage of Istanbul. From what I can read, Turkey is a US ally and support's the US desire to contain Russia. So they gain the Black Sea and then...what? Congrats, you got a puddle you can't leave as Turkey would/should tell them to fuck off and not allow access through to the Med.

[deleted]

In war time that can be sealed off for national security

Yes, but a war between Turkey and Russia would mean World War 3, and we would all have some much bigger problems.

Don't disagree. It's inevitable in my opinion

Just following up on this, Turkey is now enforcing a blockade of Russian naval forces through the strait.

And the Budapest Memorandum guaranteed russia wont attack Ukraine...

The Montreux convention does not block American ships from passage. "A number of highly-specific restrictions were imposed on what type of warships are allowed passage. Non-Black-Sea powers willing to send a vessel must notify Turkey 15 days prior of their sought passing, while Black Sea states must notify within 8 days of passage. Also, no more than nine foreign warships, with a total aggregate tonnage of 15,000 tons, may pass at any one time. Furthermore, no single ship heavier than 10,000 tonnes can pass. An aggregate tonnage of all non-Black Sea warships in the Black Sea must be no more than 45,000 tons (with no one nation exceeding 30,000 tons at any given time), and they are permitted to stay in the Black Sea for no longer than twenty-one days. Only Black Sea states may transit capital ships of any tonnage, escorted by no more than two destroyers" sauce

Turkey has never blocked NATO ships, and NATO during the cold war kept ships in the black sea with regularity.

The Soviet union Russia and Ukraine were all restricted by it.

The Soviet union wanted a black sea legal air craft carrier so they built an aircraft carrier and slapped large anti ship missiles on it , they also gave it the capital ship designation because the treaty did not restrict capital ships tonnage.

"Admiral Kuznetsov's designation as an aircraft-carrying cruiser is very important under the Montreux Convention, as it allows the ship to transit the Turkish Straits. The Convention prohibits countries from sending an aircraft carrier heavier than 15,000 tons through the Straits. Since the ship was built in the Ukrainian SSR, Admiral Kuznetsov would have been stuck in the Black Sea if Turkey had refused permission to pass into the Mediterranean Sea.[18] However, the Convention does not limit the displacement of capital ships operated by Black Sea powers. Turkey allowed Admiral Kuznetsov to transit the Straits, and no signatory to the Montreux Convention ever issued a formal protest of her classification as an aircraft-carrying cruiser.[19]

Not just Turkey - to get there they have to do a hell of a journey through waters near a bunch of NATO states. My theory is that Putin wanted to vacation in Crimea without security detail

Have you not seen his crazy seaside mansion? Look for the video put out by his opponents.

Putin needs Ws thats all.

Just a couple of pals for decades and recently.

Turkey is one of Kremlin/Putin's key wedges he has been using against NATO with weapon sales to Turkey from Russia and plans about those Black Sea routes including their new Istanbul Canal.

Russia on Wednesday said Turkey had reassured it that a planned canal aimed at easing traffic on the Bosphorus would not lead to a greater presence of NATO navies in the Black Sea.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government has long championed the controversial Canal Istanbul project -- a 45-kilometre (28-mile) waterway running parallel to the Bosphorus Strait connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and the Mediterranean.

Russia fears that Ankara's approval of plans to develop the canal will undermine its commitment to a 1936 convention that governs passage through the Bosphorus and Dardanelle Straits.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in April called on Erdogan to preserve the accord.

"We are satisfied by our interactions with our Turkish colleagues," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters after talks with his counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in the southern Turkish holiday resort of Antalya.

"During our negotiations, we put on record that the Istanbul Canal's construction plans will in no way touch the parameters of the presence of foreign navies in the Black Sea," Lavrov said.

Moscow is suspicious of NATO navies in the Black Sea, last week confronting a British warship that passed through contested waters around Crimea, which Russia seized from Ukraine in 2014.

The 1936 Montreux Convention aimed at demilitarising the Black Sea by setting strict rules on passage by commercial and military ships.

The pact guarantees free passage for civilian vessels in times of peace and war.

And the eternal quest for.

…that are entirely bottlenecked by Turkey, a NATO member and centuries-old antagonist to Russia and Russian interests.

They gain nothing they didn’t already have.

These are a few of my favorite things.

Russia wants warm water ports. Trump prefers warm water sports.

Yes they want all the resources including the people. How many Russians died during the pandemic?

Russia today, even after taking and counting Crimea, has a lower population than in 2000 when Putin became president.

Holy shit. That’s fucking scary

The “Bush did 9/11” of the Russians

People are a very renewable resource, I don't think they necessary need mote

Not in Russia. Russia's birthrate is 1.5, meaning their population is declining.

Most modern countries have declining birthrates nowadays, but immigration keeps their populations growing.

Russia and Japan are two examples of modern countries which do not have much immigration at all, and so, their population declines.

Russia is a rare example of a country that could absolutely use more people as a resource.

There’s also the fact that Russia’s population was decimated in the early 20th century do to disease, Stalin’s purges, Famin, and World War II killing a significant amount of the young male population.

Decades may have passed, but they’re still seeing the after effects of those events on the population.

That and restrictive autocracies don't tend to see a lot of incoming immigration.

Russian birthrate actually even lower, we have cechnya(2.57), tuva(3.0rate), and a lot more federal objects in Russia with high birth rate (due to various things like religion or economy)... and these people even not considered as a Russians, i mean not in some hate term, they just have diffrent culture and even if they love russia most of them will stand for their region and culture first and only second for Russian goals.

That is not true, Russia has one of largest immigrant population by absolute numbers, and medium level of immigrants per capita (8% of population, Japan has 2%). The population of Russia was increasing in 2010s solely due to immigration.

Maybe....but people have this annoying requirement of maturing educating themselves becoming skilled etc. Unfortunately for Ukraine it takes a long time to do that. And Putin wants all the resources now.

Oh but they do. Russia's population has been in decline for years (decades?)

Actually people are not really totally renewable, at least fast enough to save a nation in a generation or two. Russias demographics are a mess right now. Their male generations have been wiped by wars, now largely drink themselves to death because a few oligarchs have all the power and Russian society is pretty harsh. They are in danger of being crushed economically due to population decline among other things (their population is going to half like every decade or couple until they get their shit together). More people and land that is not barren Siberian, access to more ports and some strategic defensive area.. lots to gain for Russia, it is essentially a move to ensure their existence a little longer at the expense of some economic struggle right now. Sanctions and such are not much in the face of potentially being wiped out (in their view) or losing your place as one of the world powers and falling so far back you will never compete again..

Also let's not forget they are trying to retain their own influence in their part of the world at a complex time. The US and others have started focusing inwards again. We don't have the will to fight (for others as long as they are outside our obligations) only wag our fingers. So there's a bit of theatrics by both sides. They bluster and we say you better not, but as long as they don't go too far and start eating up our pie they can essentially do what they want..

I think these situations have a lot to do with the global warming and general uneasiness..ie many are thinking another economic recession or crash is coming soon, not to mention a necessary decline in productivity/resource usage with global warming. It's a bit of brinksmanship. Playing chicken trying to be the last one to hit the brakes and come out on top with an advantage. We will soon start seeing smaller, poorer nations fail and be absorbed. Think this is just the start of a long cold/proxy war between empires.

Russia hasn't recovered since WWII and has low birth rate , not so renewable as it was in USSR

Haha well when you’re gonna be doing lots of military operations you’re gonna need lots of young able bodied men and in order for that to happen your country needs to have steadily increasing birth rates which the Russians DONT have right now. Also nobody wants to immigrate to Russia because the economy is shit due to sanctions. At this rate they’ll fall way behind the Chinese and will be dwarfed by their military presence in Asia.

338k in Russia 933k in USA

[deleted]

Is it really that surprising? The US has >2x the population of Russia and has a higher per capita death rate than many ountries

Yep even as i cited the numbers i would freely admit that it’s a higher percentage than the more-wealthy USA. But redditors are too excited to call everything a conspiracy, especially if it’s a country that our government sees as an adversary.

You’re as conspiratorial as a trump supporter.

Prolly not a lot

Dont forget the WMDs

Siberia has all of those things in abundance. They want the ports

and this explains why US want to put is foot there too

The wheat shouldn’t be ignored. Putin will create a new famine as he sells Ukrainian grain abroad to fund the expansion of his empire.

And the fact that if Russia conquers Ukraine they will control 25% of the global grain production

And the Black Sea fleet base that was already there.

To be honest just 10 of these things seems like a lot, where the hell do they keep them.

The Russians only have 2 of these and they aren’t really much bigger than their other classes of landing craft in terms of length. This photo just makes them look ridiculously massive. They’re a little more than half the length of football/soccer field. In total the Russians have 40 landing craft so these 2 make up a very small part of the fleet.

They're much larger than every other hovercraft out there. Next is SSC and it's not even half the displacement.

Not armed either

Yeah it’s not that big just a little bigger than half a football field

Greece owns 4 of them. China owns 4. Russia only has 2.

What does Greece need 4 of these for wow

Okay, do you know how Greece has, like, a lot of islands right?

I know how broke they are

And this is why. Greece was up late and drunk buying stuff on the internet.

For when they raid your mom

They just find some pot hole and slide it there

If this was BF2042 they could store them on the side of a building.

They're not actually that big. If you zoom in, there's a guy standing on the deck.

They carry like two armored vehicles and 20 soldiers. Not very impressive. On the photo, the second armored vehicle is right next to it.

They keep them in Greece, because that's who bought them, Russia only have two. And they're not that big, they're just some fast landing craft.

It's a kleptocracy

It’s free real estate.

It'll just cost a few Ukrainian and Russian lives. A bargain in this market!

Everything is free if you take it by force!

Not really. The price is just in blood. Unfortunately the ones making the calls aren't the ones getting bled dry.

Hi me momo Vlad Putin

I mean, it is, but, cutting analysis, way to demonstrate your copy-and-paste skills.

What’s the value in something like this? Seems really vulnerable given that destroying the three giant fans would immobilize it..

It's for landing vehicles and infantry in relatively calm waters. They would not be good in open waters. The Chinese want it basically exclusively for invading Taiwan

It's still a massive amount of sea in the Taiwan Strait... Its 100 miles. 10 miles into the ocean you can't even see the coast on the horizon anymore.

No way they use these things there

Zubr is capable of 300 miles operations and has an authonomy up to 5 days, according to wiki.

Taiwan Strait... Its 100 miles

TIL it's bigger then i thought. I suppose if it was smaller, Taiwan would've already been invaded.

I like the confidence in being incorrect lmao, easier to just say shit that feels right then to just google the capability of this hovercraft.

Who in their right mind thought these things could go over the high seas, with deep water waves and all. Yeah fooked up

They wanted Crimea due to its port. They want eastern Ukraine, that's where a lot of soviet manufacturers were and some still remaine

Yeah Sevastopol has been an extremely important city for Russia and it's military even going as far back as its pre-Soviet Imperial days

Indeed. I have an AGAT stopwatch made in Kyiv. One of the internal soviet versions too with the Cyrillic manufacturer stamp.

Oh Crimea river....

Hmm, now why would the Chinese need massive amphibious vehicles? Is there a location surrounded by water that they need to move troops to?

It’s almost as if they think this is ideal to move troops to an island near by

Not just sought, but now bought and in operation. China has four now, two from Ukraine in 09 and two built domestically, Greece also has four, Russia has two modernized ones, with more "soon to be" in production in Crimea. Ukraine scrapped the three of their last four, then sold the fourth to Greece, giving Greece technically the largest fleet of Zubrs, with four in service and one additional one needing refit.

This seems like the type of thing that would be a “holy shit here it comes” type of deal but then wind up stuck on the shoreline 100m in.

Probably there now

Its a pretty good solution to invade land that is basically swamp / marsh /wetlands.

They wanted Crimea because its basically the largest aircraft carrier.... Its a big ass island

Crimea had been Russian since long before the Soviet Union. It made no sense for it not being Russian to begin with.

That’s why the people living there welcomed the change of leadership with open arms.

Everything Soviet era was made in Ukraine. Even the airplanes and aircraft! 🇺🇦✊🏻

Title is misleading. This is one of two ( i think) Soviet prolly upgraded leftovers. It's a global tasker with China and Greece running them as well.

China made two more (last i read), Russia tried to, failed. Miserably.

TLDR, old antiquated chassis, probably mildly upgraded, has extra pew pew units. Soviet and made in Ukraine, like most other stuff. Kharkovchanka, Lunokhod etc.

Goes to show some things about who was the real manufacturing base back in the day, and who were the leaches.

Russia "wanted Crimea" because:

  1. It is mostly russian and wanted back into Russia ever since Crushchew gave it to the Ukrainian SSR. Crimea, and the donbass region both were always pro-russian.
  2. It holds the russian marine base Sevastopol, which the Ukrainian coup governemnt was all giddy of handing to the US. The US, might I add, who also financed and directed said coup in 2014.

1500 years it was Russia.

It's a bit like like saying the US really wanted Florida for itself - except Ukraine was actually Russian before, while Florida was Spanish.

But it’s not now, and is recognised as a sovereign nation. So what’s your point? Bits of France used to belong to the brits, reckon the French will give it back to them?

Found the Russian!

You mean St. Petersburg troll factory member

Nah comrad, I is Sergie from New Yorker City. No Russian, I just like their culture and that Putin guy is hot and great leader.

read in : steve carrol

Bro I don’t give af about politics but this is literally blatant racism, what the fuck

What do you think racism means?

Back up even further, have them explain what 'race' is and see if they can distinguish it from ethnicity. I'm trying to remember the last application I had to fill out...

Select your race (optional):
[ ] White
[ ] Black
[ ] Hispanic
[ ] Asian
[ ] Russian

Historical facts are now russian? BlueAnon never disappoints!

It's an irrelevant fact. the Crimea peninsula was Ukrainian sovereign territory when Russia annexed it.

Most-sane Putin enthusiast right here. USSR didn’t last 1500 years coach. It’s almost as if sovereignty recognized by the international community is a real thing.

Does everyone get to go back in time and make up borders based on whichever historical period is en vogue? Cause the poles would LOVE if that were the case.

Out of curiosity, why are you a Putin fan?

Referencing the guy I was responding to, not myself, my b

They said enthusiast, not fan. I am a WWII enthusiast, but hardly a fan.

While the number of years if off. He said "Russian" not "soviet".

Crimea became part of the Russian Empire in 1783. And has been mostly settled by Russians/ people who took on russian culture and language for almost as long.

It is a confusing argument, though, because sometimes people want things to go back and other times they don’t. I think it’s based on some oppression index.

Crimea belonged to the Tatars from its initial settlement until 1944, when the Soviet Union ethnically cleansed Crimea.

Crimea was not the homeland of the Russians, you’re parroting Russian propaganda.

To add onto this, everyone should reffer to russification of the many territories occupied by russia, as far back as the Russian Empire.

If you want to make that argument then the USA and Canada should dissolve and hand everything to the surviving natives. Because that'd be the logical conclusion of your argument.

In no way did I mention north America and was detailing a specific situation. If you seriously want to say this then we should just restore everything in Europe to the Neanderthals, oh wait they're DEAD

That’s also not completely true, Crimea has changed hands often throughout history. The earliest settlers were Greek and the cities founded on Crimea were Greek city states. The Roman Empire eventually reached all the way to Crimea, after that Crimea continued to be inhabited by Venetians and Genoeses. The Tatars didn’t arrive until the 13th century with the mongols. From the 1300 century til the 1700s Crimea hosted the Crimean khanate. This lasted until the Russian empire eventually beat the ottomans in several wars for it.

And 15 years ago it was Ukrainian. Times change, countries change, just because you had something before doesn't mean you're entitled to it now.

It is a bit more complicated.

Crimea was always pro-russia and vetoed every attempt of Ukraine to suck up to the west (same with Donbass). This lead to ukraine playing both sides and staying neutral, while also recognizing russian (among others) as one of the official languages of Ukraine. Which kept the pro-russians happy.

When the US financed and directed EuroMaidan-Coup happened this changed. One of the first things the new regime did was declaring ukrainian the only official language of the country. This pissed off the russian regions to no end.

Crimea then declared independence, voted to join the russian Federation and was accepted.

Donbass tried to do the same, but the ukrainian military intervened before they could join Russia. Russia, not wanting war, did not accept them.

So, yes, times indeed change, which is Why Crimea is now part of Russia again.

Cremia did not "vote" to join the Russian federation until after they had been occupied

Crimea had several successful referendums to break away from Ukraine that were ignored hypocritically by Ukraine and international community.

All of the U.S. was Native American's land...we should give it all back then, right?

Hey a couple reservations in the least fertile parts of the country should be good enough to hold them over and make us feel good about taking their land.

And killing most of them while also destroying their culture.

And the native Americans actually came from Russia by walking across the Bering Strait crossing into Alaska, so you're saying we should give USA back to Russia?

What's your point?

By your logic all of human settled earth should be given to Ethiopia...

What is your point?

That is my point

so you're agreeing with the guy you initially replied to?

I'm using his own logic against him

I'm proving to him what you're trying to prove to me

For context here, the original comment was saying that Russia trying to conquer Ukraine is akin to Americans controlling Florida or some shit. Someone replied with a generalization to use that original commenter's logic against them because the generalization is silly. You then replied to that guy with an even sillier and bigger generalization. I believe you're saying you agree with the original comment, but I cannot tell how

This is so far from.tje truth it hurts

They were nomads

The cities many tribes built would beg to differ.

Can you link me to some of these? I know about Cahokia but not any others.

I don’t have links but you could search the mound builders of the Mississippian culture or Mesa Verde, off the top of my head.

I think Cahokia was the Mississippian mound builders. I'll check out Mesa Verde though thanks!

So their traditional lands spanned larger distances. What’s your point?

Hey putin, when we retaliate against your destitute nation of prostitutes and impoverished dog fuckers, would you like us to use nukes and have it be quick or use more conventional methods so you can enjoy us fucking your country up the ass?

You're so badass

Russia also has nukes. Enough to glass the entire US and Europe.

"Florida had become a burden to Spain, which could not afford to send settlers or garrisons, so the Spanish government decided to cede the territory to the United States in exchange for settling the boundary dispute along the Sabine River in Spanish Texas."

Yep exactly the same

…is giving Florida back an option? Why haven’t we looked into this?

Spain isn't going to answer the door, and we can't just toss Florida over their fence and walk away.

I say we just give it all back to the Mongols.

Shut up, everything was something else at one point. Can the Spanish invade the US to get back territory?

Such a dumb statement

Russia wasn't even a thing 1500 years ago lol

Also Greece has 4. It’s the only Soviet design to be purchased by a NATO member

So are the Antonovs.

In Ukraine? I assumed those were for northern Siberia, for when your ocean decided to freeze.

Can see why the Chinese would want this. Quick way to get heavy vehicles onto a beach head to secure for further invasion forces.

When was the last time there was a major seaborne invasion? Okinawa? Leyte?

Where’s the irony?

Read the title - it’s a Russian vehicle made in Ukraine — WHICH IS NOT RUSSIA — PREPARE FOR WAR!

Just think California could have one given its gdp is bigger than Russia!

More because of Sevastopol, Russia's Black Sea naval force is based in the city and the military bases they've retained there as part of the Soviet-Ukrainian independence negotiations would be severely compromised if Ukraine joins NATO and Russia suddenly finds a significant percentage of its military power (and a very strategically important section to boot) surrounded by enemy territory

Ukraine be like:

Only 10

I wouldn’t think you’d need more than 3 to invade the world.

I haven’t done much diving into Ukrainian international or internal politics, but i did watch this video I’ll link below. Apparently west Ukraine is pro-European, and east is pro-Russian. West Ukraine has a bunch of nazi sympathizers that sprung into a statewide militia and ties within their armies. DOD funded this and gave them lethal aid. West speaks mostly English, while the east speaks Russian. Westerns don’t like Easterners, and an overwhelming majority of eastern Ukrainians want to join Russia. Crimea is a region on the east coast and got annexed to take have them rejoin Russia (which is what the eastern Ukraine’s wanted).

https://youtu.be/VtOx6dW_0vU

These are in “The Division 2” video game! I didn’t think they were real! Crazy!

I've was battling the stupid Black Tusk stronghold mission this morning. Stupid weekly invasion. Stupid.

And Greece operate more of them than Russia. Haha

Makes sense. To this day Greece is still a sea fairing nation. I think the largest shipping tycoon is Greek

I think the largest shipping tycoon is Greek

Italian, afaik. Second largest company is Danish.

True but Greece has the largest merchant fleet in the world in terms of number of ships

Some of them are sent in Russia for maintenance. But our government hadn't paid the bill. So they are still in Russia.

Edit: it seems that we own 4 of them. 2 are out of action from the lack of maintenance (due to the high cost of the spare parts) and one was destroyed in a fire while on port.

Have they tried endlessly borrowing increasing sums of money like the US does?

Trust me, Greece has definitely tried that...

And?

It has gone poorly…

Have they tried shooting innocent people?

And the 4 of them are named after my favourite islands! Fukin love Reddit what an awesome find

Forced perspective* making it look way bigger than it is, although it's still big.

The life ring and door on the side gives you some scale.

*In this case, long telephoto lense, causing compression of the distance to the background. Edit: Lense conpression is still a kind of forced perspective guys.

Theres a dude about a third of the way back in a gunner mount wearing orange that helps with size too.

[deleted]

His father was a bear.

So you’re saying the dude is an absolute unit too?

Good shout, I missed that

mans as tall as the tank lol

No, he's bigger because you have to take into account that he's in the background

What? That doesn’t make sense. Wouldn’t he appear smaller in the background, and bigger in the foreground?

I thought it was obvious that I wasn't being serious considering that I was stating that a random Russian was taller than a tank.

There’s also a helicopter in the sky that doesn’t help because it’s about the same size as the gunner you mentioned.

Holy shit that dude’s huge

Doesn't help that the guy is 8ft 300lbs

Thank you! I didn’t notice that

I saw them, the thing still looks gigantic to me lol.

It's still absolutely massive for a hovercraft. It's made to unload tanks onto shores

How does the crew avoid getting sucked into the propellers while on deck?

By staying inside

Its the military, they dont have to care about things like that, they got you for 7 years motherfucker.

I know, hence "its still big" :)

It's not big it's forced perspective bro

kinda like when people post pics of Sendai Daikannon statues in Japan

they're definitely big, but nowhere near as big as you'd think

(edit: here's a good pic of the Zubr without forced perspective)

Yeah this thing is only 180ft long

[deleted]

Yes. Lense compression creating a forced perspective.

Huh, good point!

Still huge but the op makes it look like the aircraft carrier in the avengers lmao

Still impressive af

u/checklink

CLICKING ON THE LINK ABOVE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! THE WEBSITE ABOVE HAS THE RATING MALICIOUS!

Still heckin huge 😮

there’s also a person standing guard which also looks like a giant

Must be his life belt then

Yeah, that APC in front is 7-8 meters long, while Zubr is 50-something. Here it looks like a stranded USS enterprise

[deleted]

You're misunderstanding the term. "Forced" simply means something is acting to distort the perspective.

[deleted]

Plenty of other folk clearly disagree

People can't be "wrong" in how they perceive an image. They either do perceive it that way or they don't.

Clearly a lot of people do.

I wonder how many people have gotten sucked up because of those massive props? I know they most likely have screens on them but even the force against the screens would most likely likely kill you. As it tried to pull you through like a potato through French fry cutter.

Or it’s Russia and there are no screens and you just turn into a smoothie. “If he dies, he dies.”

It's in the background of the photo though. It's 57 meters in length.

Forced perspective can affect the background too. It's anytime the perspective is altered, purposefully or otherwise.

making it look way bigger than it is

Current placement in the photo has the opposite effect.

Dude they carry tanks and unload them on shore

Everyone is talking about how it's forced perspective making it look bigger than it is. To me, it's exactly as big as it looks: https://russiatrek.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/zubr-military-hovercraft-russia.jpg

Exactly. First off, compression in a telephoto lens isn’t a thing. A telephoto lens just crops a long distance photo more making the background look closer because you’re zoomed in.

But there is no photo compression in a telephoto lens. Any optical zoom feature will create the same effect. I dunno why it gets thrown around Reddit so often.

Also, for it needing to be forced perspective, the objects in front need to be bigger than the objects behind. These smaller vehicles in front do the opposite of forcing a perspective, as the sizing is what you would expect.

Picture a hunting photo - the small person always gets behind the big bear/elk/moose etc making it seem much larger. That is forced perspective.

In the end - this isn’t forced perspective. And this machine is humongous.

Edit: some Redditors really love digging in their heels when they’re wrong.

“Forced perspective” might not be the term, but the impression is absolutely impacted because it’s a long zoom (or crop from a wider image). The brain expects a more normal zoom, meaning at first glance it assumes the camera is much closer to the foreground vehicle than the hovercraft, so automatically adjusts the perspective on the hovercraft by increasing the perception of its size. Because it’s a zoom, the relative difference between the two objects and the viewer is much lower, so there isn’t much impact from perspective.

Forced perspective to make it look bigger would have in the foreground, not the background. Its fucking huge, easily the size of a destroyer.

Nope, the "forced perspective" in this case is to do with the focal length used. It's basically taken from far away with a long zoom lense, which compresses the background distance.

You can literally see a guy stood on it. It's not the size if a destroyer at all.

Well, long lenses would make one of the two things out of focus. Also the tank in the foreground would look bigger than the hovercraft if this was taken with a long lens. Or maybe they would look the same size.

How is this forced perspective though? It is the furthest object in the photo...the opposite of forced perspective.

Telephoto lenses have a narrow field of view, which can cause further away objects to appear larger than they are.

The "hold an object close to the camera to make it look huge" trick is just one method of forced perspective.

You’re right, the people arguing you are wrong.

For a forced perspective you need the bigger objects in the foreground and smaller objects in the background.

Like how hunting photos are taken showing impossibly huge animals.

A zoomed in photo is not forced perspective.

This photo isn’t that at all. And this machine is actually massive. It carries tanks. Lots of them.

I don’t know if “forced perspective” is the term, but your brain’s absolutely a little tricked by the photo. We expect a normal zoom, meaning the camera would be much closer to the truck than the craft. So the mind automatically adjusts the size of the craft to adjust for perspective. But because it’s a zoom (or crop from a wider photo), the distance between the truck and craft is similar so there’s little impact from perspective.

So it’s basically the opposite of forced perspective — instead of perspective changing apparent size in a manner the brain misses, the brain is adjusting apparent size for a perspective effect that isn’t really there.

that's still pretty fucking big

well, the rotors at least

I mean, I see the life preserver and I see the dude… nope, still looks huge.

(Very) Roughly 26ft high

Forced perspective? There's a dude on it. Pretend that dude is standing on one of the tanks. This hovercraft is fucking huge.

This looked a lot cooler before your post.

Wow good call. I’m usually pretty good with that stuff but absolutely got bamboozled this time. Thanks

I see the guy standing on it. Still huge.

If that life ring on the side is any indication of scale it's still pretty fucking big

187 feet long, 30,000 horsepower

I have a bad feeling we will be learning about all sorts of Russian military hardware soon.

I pray not

Oof

Didn't pray hard enough smh

I don’t, what reason would Russia have to invade? They know the backlash will be enormous!

Evidence one:

See flying military boat.

They might do a war

Dude. It’s just a hovercraft. The US has had them since the 50s.

US also sometimes do a war

But hopefully this time we will stay out of it. I’m tired of us having to play world police for countries that aren’t thankful for us. I say let them fall. Let all the other countries go to shit. We can stop funding other countries/giving them any of our research/weapons/manpower. We owe no one anything .

This guy clearly doesn't who how economy works.

So each country have trade deals which is essentially import and export from said country. That's how big huge countrys make money. If the rest of the world's economy collapses, you can be sure that will affect US.

Also why do Americans think that they only make progress in tech? WW 1 and 2 would have been lost due to your logic. Also country's have research pacts. That means that the country's contribution is not just American.. Also you hire alot of foreigners to do the research from all over the world.

Also your bot funding over country's, you are selling them. That is Americas biggest export.

Good take dude. Let everything fall to shit - you will have plenty of trading opportunities as well as great stock market performance 👍🏻

I really don’t give a shit. I’m comfortable, you guys don’t want us, we will be fine. Once you have all had your squabbles, killed each other, then we can come in and just take anything we want. I’m done with having to play nice to people that want to screw us constantly.

Good lord you are not a decision maker of any level 👍🏻

You are a self assured idiot that works mid level management at best. Have fun with mediocrity and safety.

Hah you’re a tool

Sure, buddy

Alright there champ. Happy life

Well, you won’t have that

Yes, you can say that, because you are not profiting from that. But to whom US military complex will sell all their expencive crap?

To satisfy a desire they have had since 97. Putin raised a whole generation of soldier on the idea that eventually they have to take Ukraine. If he doesn’t actually do it a lot of soldiers are going to be wondering WTF. Just go look at the r/Russia sub. They are all convinced that taking crimea was totally the correct thing to do. They will all be behind invading Ukraine if it happens. The people of Russia have been indoctrinated for 25 years to want this.

This sub is actually insane. Commenting anything that doesn't go with the Kremlin narrative gets deleted, and people there actually look back at the USSR nostalgically.

Now legit question: Does the average russian know english? Because i think that sub is a very small and specific part of the russian people.

No. They don’t. Not an average. However the ones that do speak English tend to be less nationalistic.

Thanks for elaborating mate

This is the Russian play book. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics

This book has been part of Russian military curriculum for 25 years. Go the content section of the Wikipedia page and look at the bullet points.

That is some wild shit… even though I am sure you could find nationalistic crap like this in every country / army.

This is all peanuts, compared to what China is up to, or their conception of themselves and their role in the world. There was a great documentary about It, what Xi Jinpings longterm plans are.

Still, thanks for sharing!

There’s no American equivalent to that

China can't survive without the west. Their economy depends on it.

Bullshit. It's just some nazi crap. Nobody really cares about it.

The Russian leadership is detached from reality. I hope sanctions will sober them up

Sanctions don't do shit if the leadership doesn't actually care.

The sanctions should be against the foreign properties of the leadership itselft. Ofcourse they don't care about sanctioning a government corporation, cause it's not their money they're losing. But go after the stolen money they've invested abroad and they will squeal.

They literally just go around it with various criminal means instead.

There's that :( but i hope some of them won't be able to keep what they've stolen and will be angry with Vlad for not protecting them. And that is a good thing in the long run.

Lol Russia has Europe by the balls with nat gas. Believe me sanctions wont do shit.

The sanctions should be against the foreign properties of the leadership itselft.

We have been doing this since 2014, but it's clearly not enough. The new sanctions need to be more widespread and permeate every aspect of the Russian economy, like banning them from SWIFT.

I've had the same idea but clearly it's not possible or not effective as Western nations would have already done so

Putin giving Hitler vibes

Source: Czech

The sanctions have been in place since 2014 mate

The leadership grew up behind the iron curtain and were "fine". I would wager they're willing to weather some more austerity

Austerity? Look up their chateos in france and villas in italy.

They grew up behind the iron curtain but got fat in the chaos that followed.

I am very well aware of international real estate holdings of the Russian oligarchy. But anyone who thinks that Putin, Lavrov, Shoygu, etc would EVER put personal financial interests over national pride is sorely mistaken. These guys know what's coming, and haven't given any sign of being deterred

Lol russia is far more sanction proof this time around. The sad fact of the matter is Europe is spineless and the largest war since WWII is coming to their doorstep.

In my opinion sanctions will just fuel conflict and escalate to a full scale war. Crippling a countries economy is just justification for a declaration of war. Russia isn’t going to back down like a dog to their western owners.

Yeah. But what else can the world do?

I don’t even know, its a really tough situation. NATO is not going to meet Russia’s demands, and Russia is not going to back down, there’s not much left to talk about and there’s not much action to avoid conflict unless we can compromise which I see very unlikely. Not impossible, but unlikely. Any sort of compromise would have to involve Russia giving up claims to Ukraine, and NATO/US agreeing to not post military forces around Russian boarders specifically in Ukraine. Which doesn’t seem horribly problematic to me, but as I understand it Russia is not in the best economic state as it is and Ukraine is rich in natural resources especially energy reserves (coal, natural gas, etc.) they might view Ukraine as a worthwhile conflict to achieve more economic stability. This is of course my opinion and speculation from my limited knowledge and shouldn’t be taken as fact, I could be completely wrong and misguided.

If they can get china to politically and financially back them (which seems fairly likely imo) Russia would have much more means to actually fight a war, at least for a short while. Worst case scenario is Russia invades Ukraine and China in a separate campaign invades Taiwan, though I feel only this would happen if Russia acts as China's guinea pig, see the consequences Russia faces, and gauge whether it would be worth it.

If this happens, NATO, in general, is going to be in a VERY precarious position. as Taiwan is a major non-NATO ally, and Ukraine has specifically asked for membership. They could open a war on 2 front's and spread themselves thin, not a good move, or abandon one of the groups and harm their reputation on the world stage.

I could also be completely wrong and misguided here, and for the love of god, I hope I am.

I hope so too, but I am thinking the same thing

I was preparing a spicy argument, but your last sentence got me. I might be wrong and misguided as well.

Good day to you sir.

Thank you! Good day to you as well.

Like how Russia is doing to Ukraine economy? For how many years?

Putin knew sanctions would be forthcoming 1 it was a very predictable response. He planned to use the incoming sanctions to fire up the Russian people in favor of war with the west by claiming the sanctions are Natos way of economically suppressing the Russian Federation so they cant progress as a nation.

~~The Russian~~ leadership is detached from reality.

They entire GDP of Russia is less than just California alone. Russia doesnt have the cash flow to do what you imagine they are saying they will do.

> What reason would [nation] have to invade? They know the backlash will be enormous!

Literally every country immediately before being invaded.

I doubt it, there were only few consequences for annexing the Krim and there were a lot of threats.

And thats the problem. They really dont care about that. So whats stopping them

Nato is going to stand there and let it happen. In 30 years we'll be scratching the back of our heads as to how the fuck we could let this happen.

Putin was literally groomed by the communist party back in the day to be the leader of Russia and “restore it’s glory” his whole purpose as leader of Russia is to bring back its old border as best he can. They basically have Belarus already, once Lukashenko is out they will most likely be annexed. They already are messing with Georgia and Ukraine. Kazakhstan is falling apart right now so good chance Russia could step in there as well.

It’s all about getting as much borderland between the heartland of Russia and NATO

If Ukraine joins NATO, then Russia is all but indefensible from land attack.

They need that swampy buffer.

It’s all or nothing for Ukraine, from Putin’s perspective and he is ready to accept whatever backlash there is. He is also ready to use his nuclear arsenal to keep NATO from interfering.

On one hand I agree, and feel like this is perfect for him because he would rather be the boy who cried wolf. Unlike North Korea, Russia really will invade so if they were to back down now people won't believe them the next time they actually do, resulting in Ukraine with their guard down. On the other hand this is a massive bluff. I mean it's way more than troops it's nurses, medical equipment, supplies, air force equipment, etc. I'm just shocked anyone has their mind made up on what someone as unpredictable as Putin will do. Part of me feels like he doesn't even have his mind made up yet

Russia has to invade. Othervise the Nord Stream-2 will be completed, and billions of dollars will go to Russia unstead of USA. To prevent it, Russia must be dragged into war as agressor.

The backlash will not be enormous. The annexation of crimea already proved that.

(Narrator): They invaded.

How did this comment age

Like milk in the dessert…

Agedlikemilk

Spot on. Half of it at least, backlash did happen

Financial backlash, yes. Anything else? Fuck no. Ukraine isn't NATO (and honestly shouldn't be, they're as corrupt as Russia), Biden's polls do not put him in the position of saying "Yeah so we will send thousands of your sons to certain death over some country most of you couldn't point on the map", Johnson has other worries (like staying in office in the first place), Germany definatly doesn't want war, canceling Nord Stream 2 is basically the ultima ratio we can do (and certainly don't actually want to) and France will likely burn to the ground from riots if Macron sends troops.

This isn't some terrorist group with goats and AKs or low level country like Iraq under Hussein. Russia is one of the strongest military powers world wide. We talking about serious losses, how do you think the public in any country will react when a really bad day isn't 30-40ish dead soldiers, but 300?

Have you forgotten Crimea 2014??

what reason

Bolsonaro talked to him

What other explanation of Russian media ramping up false flag reporting, saying your withdrawing troops when your adding them etc.. why is the going to invade? Same reason he’s a power hungry dictator. It’s hard to explain the rational of people you can’t even fathom to think like. Yours and my brain doesn’t want power, or to be in the history books, his does. He’s getting old and bored and wants more of a legacy is enough motivation for that psycho. He also wants his pact with china to show the world the US is no longer the worlds police, or even the biggest superpower. Also the national security / economic positioning by having the ports in Ukraine also are huge incentives.

I apologize in advance for huge chunk of text on non political post

I might be an unwanted guest here but I'm Russian and I have to say some things because your comment is pretty new. You guys looking on Putin like he's some kind of evil genius who is planning to take over the world just for the sake of it. He isn't. Russia currently not even a competitor to USA or China in terms of economics and invading Ukraine won't change anything in this regard. Resources? We don't need them because our country is already big and problematic enough. And even if we wanted factories and infrastructure as a whole we have to repair them because Ukraine is more poor then Russia. Crimea costed us a lot of money to repair and imagine how much it would be even for Donbass. If you think I'm brainwashed by propoganda then I have to say that I rarely listen news on TV which is the main source of that stuff. I listened some news just to be sure and we don't talk about an invasion as many would think as with "Crimea propoganda" which weren't even a thing. The main thing Putin and by extention Russia wants is removing NATO from our borders because historically NATO was an anti-communism and by extension anti-russian organization. We have no guarantee it won't be used as a weapon against us. That's it. This is pure misunderstanding. And btw, Putin isn't stupid even if he's old. He worked at KGB and he knows that at best invasion on Ukraine will cause massive sanctions at best and war at worst(we all have nuclear weapons btw and wiping Earth from existence isn't in his plans). Army on Ukrainian borders is there just for political show-off like all politicians loves to do, nothing more

All of the things I've said is based on my experience seeing this president in non-mass media, history and looking on everything from different points of view including the ones from USA and Ukraine. What I'm trying to say, don't trust any politicians at all. It's what I learned living in Russia and I think all people should do. The amount of hate/panic and any emotion in general they can spread through people is insane. Looking from all points of view is the way to embrace news

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the perspective. I don't think your brainwashed although your bias would be informed by extension the news, same way mine is and everyones is, not directly watching news doesn't necessarily avoid influnece of propoganda. Again , i'm not calling you out, I in the US am just as subject to propoganda and constantly having to pick through it.

Not all politicians move a large portion of their army to an enemies border, actually none, the US does bad horrible things for its perceived national security interest as well, but flaunting a full scale invasion to a state it doesnt acknolwdge is not normal, and doesnt seem to be showboating. If the invasion doesn't happen and I really hope it doesn't, then great it maybe was grandstanding. But if it happens, dont buy for 1 second that he simply was showboating, then the Ukraine forced his hand through some sort of attack or something... no if he invades its 100% because he wanted to.

I don't buy the argument that Russia isn't big enough to achieve Putins ambitions and therefore he couldn't be doing them for that reason. Putins legacy is a big deal to him, he has aligned with China. Theres a middle ground between hes a world dominating supervillian, and wants to be recognized as among the men who shaped the state of the world in the early 2000's.

There are multiple redflags you are avoiding if you aren't thinknig Putin is a pretty evil dude. The fact his political opposition are regularly poisoned is fairly obvious. He keeps amending the constitution to giving himself more and more terms... "absolute power corrupts absolutely." China doesn't even have much of a shared interest other than it opposes the powers that tend to be pro democracy.

Glad to see constructive response. It's kinda scary to write something regarding current situation while being Russian

your bias would be informed by extension the news, same way mine is and everyones is, not directly watching news doesn't necessarily avoid influnece of propoganda

But if you mostly ignore the mass-media then it makes you think on your own more then just to believe what you hear or see. That's what I meant because any kind of information is a propoganda at some degree and the more it's "official" the more aggressive it would be

Not all politicians move a large portion of their army to an enemies border

It's true. But most politicians have some way to put pressure on his opponents to make a consensus with them. Not trying to say that the way Putin chose is a very good move but it may work

Putins legacy is a big deal to him, he has aligned with China

Putin is just a president, he's not monarch and I never seen a quote from him which could gave me a red flag. I'll talk about this more in the next paragraph. Now, regarding China.... We aren't really good friends tbh and our politicians "befriended" with China only because in the future it may replace USA on global arena. This can be confirmed by some of our propoganda shows where people on TV discussed is USA going down and China going up and is it worth to slowly use ¥ rather then $. However when it comes to China, they see us only as a resources. Fun fact: some of our territories are still "occupied" by Chinese to get some resources(like trees in Syberia) because in the 1990s we made an agreements with China and they're still active. However soon enough those agreements will end and that's probably main reason why China wants to keep communication with us. By this actions they will make their economy stronger and once again will become stronger as a country

The fact his political opposition are regularly poisoned is fairly obvious

Now, about that. Even if Putin fights our opposition it's still trash. Literally non of the people I've seen on opposition did anything rather then occusing our government in corruption which is the problem, don't get me wrong but if the only thing you do is pointing out on someone's property and not even suggesting what YOU could improve in a country to make this dissappear then you're a trash oppositioner. I doubt any of those people would've make a single improvement in our already unstable country and they would just ruin everything and dissappear. I'm not against opposition like some elderly people are but there's no good opposition in Russia, believe me. Putin and his government while corrupted still making something good for our country even tho it ain't that much. And here I talk why I think Putin isn't psycho who only does everything to please himself. If he's a dictator then he should build a cult around his persona. We've had portraits of current president in our schools(Putin and later Medvedev, then Putin again) which could be a red flag but later all of those were removed(at least at those schools that I visited) because as teachers told us, when our minister saw this he said to remove those portraits because this is inappropriate and "too much". All patriotic things in our country aren't coming down to Putin. They're coming down to the army. And even there when I've visited little training that all 16 year old's boys have to go through I never heard that we have to fight against someone for a greater good or something like that. The only thing our government is actively trying to destroy is opposition because they doesn't want to be occused as corrupted and not because Putin is against the idea of opposition itself. If anything, I don't think it's him who is making all the desicions regarding oppositioners and that's simply those rats who are sitting on lower posts

He keeps amending the constitution to giving himself more and more terms

He remade constitution just to be president even longer because one of the paragraphs read as something like "President who is on post while this constitution is remade can ran for post of the President again". I'm not sure will he but that didn't gave him new abilities. It simply gave him more time if he wants to. Not ok but that doesn't change much in Russia because we doesn't have a better candidate on that post anyway

Hi I have no idea if your real or anything or what level of propaganda you see, but Putin very clearly invaded Ukraine. The entire world has pretty much unanimously denounced him for this, this is not just my opinion. He is responsible for many many deaths and russias economic woes.

Hope you are safe, citizens of an aggressors country are victims too. If you are being told differently it is a lie, most US citizens are not angry with Russians who are not actively pro war, only Putin.

Well. First of all, I was shocked when I heard the news 2 weeks ago. Rn... Rn I'm sad about what's happening in the internet. I mean, I don't support the invasion but Putin's goals aren't as crazy as some people imagine. Like, I've seen someone telling me that Russians are antisemitic and we invaded Ukraine just because there's a lot of Jews and Zelensky is half-Jew too. Russia isn't racist. We are multinational and there's no way we are genociding Jews or Ukrainians just because they aren't Russian. Currently, I disregard any information I get because every country is lying at something thus its impossible to fully understand what's going on. I just hope to find truth when the war will be over

Btw I'm grateful that you are kind to me even tho I'm Russian. Thank you. I'm mostly fine. Peace, mate✌

You will find all opinions on the internet and yes many people are exaggerating. However I would ask you open your mind to Putins intentions, you ended up being wrong about him grandstanding troops at the border. If You were that wrong about Putins decision to kill thousands of people, you should rethink the evils the man is capable of.
I don’t believe his number one goal is genocide of jews no, but I also don’t know nor does ANYONE. I do personally think he is an old man who’s seeing his life and legacy begin to reach its end and is making decisions on how he will be remembered in 100 years, so he is making gambles to try and change the world to his preference. He is outwardly bigoted and hateful to gay or minority groups, he murders political enemies and just made an invasion that has the potential to result in millions of deaths via geopolitical instability or possible WW3. There should be no reason to rule out some sort of morality of this man, he is easily now already commited some of the most horrible acts of todays age.

His biggest issue now is his gamble is looking lost. There is no outcome that works like he wanted it to, the west didn’t bite, it didn’t scatter or escalate to a bigger conflict and ukraine didn’t go down easy. Instead the world united and hit russia with every economic sanction it could for its aggression. He is now much poorer and much more scared / paranoid. His only end game now would be to get the west to escalate the conflict sending the world into chaos. If he retreats he will lose power if not now, in the near future for his failure and he knows this. A man who has that much power and gambled for more will never accept that until he is forced.

This means his next move is likely to attempt to draw NATO into war, knowing China will be forced to back him if the world super powers fight. Watch for signs, he might try to use propaganda to say ukraine or NATO commit atrocities, might escalate nuclear talks etc…

The absolute best outcome for the world at this moment is if Putin can be overthrown from within or if he can be politically beaten. While Putin is power after his gamble, there is no possible way he retreats with the damage he has inflicted to Ukraine, his people or the world, his power will be lost because of it :_(. I hope to god Russians can help avoid any of these terrible outcomes.

Also peace and love friend we are all humans in a wonderful and also horrible moment in history right now❤️❤️

I still don't believe that his interests are a legacy. Who cares about it? We doesn't even learn newest history that much in the schools. I mean, in 20 years children will probably will but they will know who Putin were even without a war because he literally ruled Russia for 20 years lol. There are 2 motifs for that invasion. First is the biggest one. It's how Ukrain can be used by NATO to dictate what it wants as Ukrain is a really big country near our borders. Despite people telling that NATO is a peaceful organization... it's still military based and military CAN'T be peaceful even it's passive for the moment. Army exists to press your opponents. Whoever has more advantage in the military will dictate the rules. That's simple. Russia needs Ukraine to be at least neutral but it's actively willing to join "enemy" forces. Even if Putin just thinks about money it's not good for him when someone will have even more ways to dictate the rules. If he really is that crazy to be "remembered" and he doesn't afraid of consequences then he could've straight up bomb Ukraine with nuclear weapons. It's literally the most powerful thing we have. Why spend so much time and effort to invade Ukraine when you can press one button? Second motif is Crimea. It's a much less visible problem but it is suffering ecologically because there's no fresh water. Ukraine blocked the river(or whatever there were) which was the biggest supply of that water for Crimea and didn't want to open it again. Straight up destroying the block is the easiest desicion but you can't do that without a war because it will be difficult to implement without using rockets

Putin is not insane. Or else you have to call all leaders who invaded other countries insane. Like, literally. America did invade a lot of countries but because they're not European countries they never had any harsh reactions like sanctions. But does invading other country is an insanity? No. It's either a tactical or financial desicion. It always were. In Russian case it won't bring us much money and in fact it is making us lose it so this is tactic to stay on the board. Not the tactic I would personally like because I'm a pacifist but it is what it is. We can't do anything as citizens anyway

Btw, about the fact we can't do anything. Putin is the only president we have that can at least sustain our country. He makes his job worse with each year but at least it's something. We have no free voice and we can't express what we think. It sounds really bad. Now, to make a change in a country like this we have to literally start a revolution which will be probably bloody as hell... But what if we succeed? Sure, Putin will go away but who will be next candidate for the president role? Someone from different political party? They all are uninitiative and don't have their voice either. Opposition? They don't even care about poor citizens. All they will do when they will have the power is stole some money, break the country and fade away. They have literally no experience in politics, how are they gonna sustain a huge country like Russia? That leaves us with no candidates to rule which means a complete chaos, future separation of regions and that's it. Stopping Putin is basically the end for Russia and until we will have a better candidate then him then this idea of revolution is pointless

With all of the thing I've said... I have no idea what will happen. The only way I could say something confidently is by analyzing the outcomes of Ukraine war and all of the stuff that will happen the year or two later because there's so much misinformation from all the sides that I simply cannot trust anyone. Staying neutral rn is hard but I'm trying. Truth is never on one side - it is always somewhere in-between. I just hope that everything will be ok because realistically sustaining peace for humanity is something new(just look at the history - it's a war after war) and someone would've failed anyway. Didn't expect it to be us but at this point it's whatever. Again, I hope everything will be ok for Ukraine, for other world, for Russia and no one will lose it's future. I hope we all will unite at some point. After all.. the dream never hurts lol

P.S. Sorry if I may seem emotional. Whenever I discuss this, I just can't be calm

What backlash? Poutine clearly stated in a press conference he was gonna nuke everyone that interfere between Russia and Ukraine. We cant even sanction them economically since china will take their side anyway.

Oh ok this makes sense now. You’re another Russian propaganda shill.

Um… care to elaborate?

Posting pics of Russian military equipment and talking about how impressive it is, and then denying that Russia wants to start a war when 90% of their ground forces are on the border of Ukraine.

Where do I talk about how impressive it looks?

How can I deny it? I merely asked a question. Because I can not comprehend how even a narcissistic dictator would not get that it would have massive consequences?

PS. According to the bbc they have approx. 190.000 soldiers at the border. Russia has an active military of +900.000 soldiers, so you might want to recalculate your 90 percent 😉

My thoughts.

Russia wants Ukraine. China wants Taiwan. They're in cahoots. America is all sorts of fucked up right now. And America would be needed to by Europe and Taiwan to resist Russia and china from invading. And America is as un-united as it's ever been. Good time to pounce on both.

Remember when we said that in 2014?

Bc Putin is in charge and he would rather die than appear to be defeated or controlled.

lol are you kidding?

r/russia is leaking

Explosions reported in Kyiv as Putin says Russia is launching an attack on Ukraine

I stand corrected, unbelievable…

Not the corrected, but the invasion part!

I wouldn’t complain if we got some SU-‘s. I mean you can literally buy your own for €8,000,000 (If it’s still available. You should probably call before going to pick it up.)

Just to randomly throw this out there, if anyone is interested in learning more about the modern Russian military I’d like to suggest the book “The Russian Way of War”. It’s from 2016 so not completely up to date with their absolutely brand new stuff but it’s a great general resource. My roommate is a conflict analyst for a think tank and this book has been on our coffee table since the beginning of December as he’s watched things ramp up.

Just get Jackie Chan a car and a sword

I feel like this is exactly the hardware you would need to get yourself and nearest and dearest tank battalion from the Crimean peninsula to ....

Odessa?

Mykolaiv?

Mariupol?

I hope that the Ukrainians have an idea of where these are and how to stop them.

If you thought the nukes fifty years ago were big...

We already learned the greek alphabet recently. Try to learn something new.

Yeah when they have sell them to stave of bankruptcy

Yeah...and it's generally inferior to the western counter parts.

They got a big military, but not a very high tech or well equipped one.

Well well my good sir, are you ready for a modern rendition of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan?

What Wikipedia doesn't mention is that 'Zubr' is the Arabic word for penis. Do with that what you want...

Is that why my coworker nicknamed me Zubbe?

If that’s not a joke, then yes. He’s literally calling you “my dick”😂

Am middle eastern, can confirm your coworker calling you his penis lmao

Am coworker, can confirm they are dick*.

*I'm sure you are lovely but that doesn't help my attempt at humour so here we are.

Had to look it up and apparently there's a Czech pilsner called Zubr Extra Force.

Wait, I thought it was "zip"?

Zubr is european bison.

It's Russian for Bison.

Oh neat it looks like the bottom deflates and people come out through a ramp at the front to the shore:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zubr-class_LCAC#/media/File:Zapad-2009_military_exercises.jpg

Lmao Russia announced they were building more before finding out that they couldn't

There's only 10 remaining of them and Greece(NATO) operates 4, Russia 2

Where’s the last four? Hidden somewhere?

West Taiwan bought them

That monstrosity can only hold three tanks??? It looks like it can hold 2 dozen

Have you seen this - https://youtu.be/iXGaM9_zZcM

How do they keep people from being sucked into those fans?

By shooting them first.

I doubt that’s a concern. Probably a feature if anything. Boarding party gets sucked

This fucker posted up at the war right now?

The pic originated from one of the manoeuvres they did in the last weeks as far as I know.

This pic has been floating around for years. They could be using it now but this is not evidence for that

It looks cool but is there an effective tactical use for this?

It can land on a beach that otherwise has no facilities for docking a boat. It can carry 3 tanks or 8 APC with a couple hundred troops. It can Travers obstacles up to and including a 5 foot 3 inch wall, but can only climb grades up to 5%, which isn't really all that much.

The 5% grade explains why all of the pictures of them on land are just slightly onto a beach, unloading vehicles and people

5%, from a 30'000hp combined turbine power propulsion system. Damn. Though, 55 knots continuously is pretty good. 20'000hp for the air cushion, totaling an insane 50'000hp

I mean, how many boats can go up a 5% grade?

Take the normal resistance from water on the hull, but add the force of gravity for a 5% grade and you can easily find out if a boat could theoretically climb a 5% grade with a set amount of power.

This is however not a boat. Lots of smaller hovercraft can climb steeper hills, but their power to weight ratio is much better than this behemoth, even with its ridiculous power figures, still,. it would be cool to see it be even more versatile.

Still presents a fucking massive target.

Didn’t the Germans learn that was a bad idea some 80 years ago?

I would assume this would be used as a means to maximize transportation of heavy artilery efficiently only if the surrounding areas have been fully secured. It's way too big to be effective Assault vehicle

These wouldn’t land until it has local air superiority

They’re used to transport equipment and vehicles such as tanks for amphibious landings. The US military has a lot of these things too, they’re used by quite a few nations but the Russians have 2 really big ones.

Yeah that's what I assumed the general purpose of a hovertransport vehicle would be, it's just the size seems not as practical as it is cool

transporting tanks and amoured vehicles since russian doesn't have airbases all over the world like America

These only have a range of about 300 miles. The only purpose these things have, is anphibious assault and laying mines. You see an LCAC approaching your shores, from any country, you are being invaded. Modern versions of the landing craft used during d-day.

well yeah obviously, that is what hovercrafts do.

So what does a hovercraft, with limited range, have to do with US air bases? You really think those hovercraft are the response to US air bases? Sounds to me, like you didn't really use any brain power at all to come to that dumbass conclusion.

why so angry?? I never said hovercrafts were Russia's response to air bases. What i meant was that since America has air bases all over the world they have no need for amphibious transport. And this hovercraft is used for amphibious transport obviously. You came to a made up conclusion in ur mind and then attacked me for it lmfao.

Hauling a shitton of gear and troops comes to mind…

"It's a nice hovercraft, I'll give you that, but the size of it provides no tactical advantage whatsoever": Revolver Ocelot, probably.

I'd imagine running people over is effective

Hovercraft are used to land tanks and troops on beaches with no docks

Straight out of Total Annihilation

It appears to be flagged Scots. EU here we come! Stay back Boris!

Why is their flag the reverse coloured version of Scotland? They care that much about St Andrews?

Forced Perspective. It’s still big but only 550 tons. Makes it look like 20,000 ton

Forced Perspective. It’s still big but only 550 tons.

That's what I tell my doctor when he says I desperately need to lose weight

How is this forced perspective? It is the furthest object in the photo. It would have to be the closest, with an armored vehicle way behind it but appearing alongside it to be forced perspective. (Even the armored car has an orange life preserver giving perfect reference to the one on the hovercraft)

[deleted]

But if there is a human standing in the craft for reference, then it literally cannot be forced perspective. What angles? There is a life preserver on the APC too. I just don't see the camera trickery you guys speak of lol.

It's the lens choice. This photo was likely taken with a large telephoto lens. So it is a forced perspective effect but not achieved by the location of the subject. Here is a good example: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/photography/tips-and-solutions/lens-choices-subject-distances-and-how-they-affect-the-visual-impact

That combined with the haze around it makes it look even further, and larger than it is.

They are huge for sure, but they come in under 200 ft long. The photo makes it look as big as an aircraft carrier, if not larger.

It is actually achieved by the location of the subject, as perspective itself is what’s being compressed the farther away an object is. We just don’t notice because the field of view a long lens picks up is like a postage stamp size in our field of view. The lens is merely magnifying this phenomenon, not compressing anything. It’s all about focal distance. Don’t believe me, take multiple shots with various lenses while maintaining a constant focal distance, then crop the shots and you’ll see they’re all exactly the same.

No, that's totally right.

I could have worded that better. What I meant was, this is a different method of forced perspective than what I was described by the previous poster.

Their frame of reference for a forced perspective photo is a wide angle lens used to shrink a distant object or enlarge a near one. A person holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa, for example.

I think they picked the smallest tanks to put in front

It's the an effect of the lense and zoom used for the photo as well

Ah yes, perspective manipulation to make it look like warship

I mean, It’s nearly 200 feet long (~57m). It’s not as if this is some small object.

It makes 30,000 horsepower with 4x superchargers. It’s a large boy.

How much is 200 feet in Olympics pool or baseball fields?

About 1.2 Olympic pool’s long lmao.

Americans will use anything but the metric system

In American, its about 10 longbed Ford f-150s

What about crew cab short beds?

but not unique or particularly huge. Navy and Marines have had the LCAC for a half century. Faster, more maneuverable. Size is not really a benefit in this type of craft.

Uniquely large when compared to other hovercraft, no?

Hence, “the world’s biggest hovercraft”

Needs a banana for scale

/r/mildlyterrifying

I'm getting strong at-at vibes from star wars. Not super practical, but damn impressive and intimidating looking.

Anyone got a r/BananasForScale

no, but you can see a man at the gun about 1/3 of the way back from the bow.

Thing looks like it's about to launch a MOBILE SUIT: GUNDAM

Where banana for scale?

Can't really feel the size could you add a banana for scale

And they have a big assed tug boat shadowing it...just like for their lone aircraft carrier.

Used for looking cool

I served on an amphibious assault ship and spent a good amount of time with LCAC's I thought for sure that was some photoshop shit. Its cartoonishly big

THATS A HUGE BITCH

"this would be so cool if it wasn't the last thing we were ever gonna see"

  • Ron Stoppable

You are a person of class

I try to stay cultured

Cod be like

I bet I could pop it.

Well? Is it still standing?

Mf prob sank in the sand

Weird that all these “Russian is awesome” posts jumping up suddenly.

I've noticed the same thing. Tons within the past few days. Definitely some bs "Look at how awesome our military is! You should be scared!!" type stuff going on.

This hovercraft will soon be a glorified bonfire.

[deleted]

Came here to say this

Those are some strange flags huh

You talking about the reverse Scottish flag (ish)? That’s just the flag of the Russian Navy

Russians should go back to playing destiny

talk about cheer terror

I’d imagine living on that thing all you hear all day is BWAAAAAAMMMMMM

I only know what zubr means because of the Polish beer

Well that's not exactly stealthy is it?

How do people not get sucked in ?

People wonder why battlefield 2042 sucked? Well why they didnt just put some real shit in. They ddidnt do shit for that gamr

Is that helicopter peeing on it?

New rule, Russia CAN invade the Ukraine only if they exclusively use those....it would be glorious to watch. You've heard of blitzkrieg? Well this ain't it but it's something

Ah yes it's ok if people die as long as the fighting looks "cool"

I mean if you don't see that thing coming at you than that's a you problem.

The only counter to this is Jackie Chan in a Lamborghini with a giant sword.

And where is that even practical

That thing is a planet💀💀💀

Great gas to milage too

These things are stuck on cargo ships all throughout LA county waiting to be offloaded.

ZUBR

^INVADE ^THERE

Ze big ass uber, becomes... ZUBR

What in the GI JOE is this

I got on board of the US version of one once in Coronado. Absolutely massive. Can't imagine how huge this monster is.

Can't you just shoot some bullets at the "inflatable" bit and it would stop moving? Sorry, I have no idea how hovercrafts work.

Surely a bad idea, since it’s full of eel‘s!

Coming to you in a nearby invasion soon…

But does it actually work is the question

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee that’s all I see here a faint case of Tinnitus those fans have got to be loud af.

A giant, few hundred tons vessel flying on an arc cushion. Anyone has got a giant needle?

Bloody hell Zoomer from paw patrol has upped his game.

How Ryder keeps making these things is beyond me.

Is there any practical application for this vehicle

Invading a somewhat contested beach. This is a single unit which can provide some of its own protection (with small small AA missiles and the 30mm cannons, plus rocket launchers) that can land over half a dozen vehicles and over 100 troops.

Carrying Putin's dick across water

Could replace the Pompey hovercraft when that needs repairing

Looks like something from Southland Tales

Holy fuck I think this was a g.I joe vehicle back in the day

I feel as if this is completely impractical but it looks cool

Everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

r/megalophobia

I thought this was an ad for a game lol

Did anyone else hear the Imperial March with this?

I’m getting war flashbacks from bf2042

Looks like a bunch of aliens are going to pop out of it and Tom Cruise is going to yell "Run"

Me thinking “it doesn’t look that much bigger than usual” then actually looking. Ohhhhh that guy. Hmm. Yes. Slightly larger then.

Rode on the USMC version a few times back in the day and it was always a surreal experience

I bet you can hear it from 8 days away.

Ukraine has left the game

That thing would be nice to drive in the bayou with

So one Jdam to drop it into the ocean ?

Literally means dick in my language

No way! 🥲

Looks like something out of Wolfenstein...

I want to just live in the cab of this thing while soldiers drive it around destroying shit.

I just wanna drive this thing to work one morning and park on the parking lot.

Big target

Like something out of Red Alert. Just need the Tesla towers.

By djah, those were the days…

That's a pretty big target

notice the guy as big as a tank on the boat lol, that must be one hell of a lens to make it look that big

Also the orange life ring on the side for giants!

Does it run on diesel?

Looks like the Black Tusks' hovercrafts from The Division 2

does it actually hover tho

Looks impractical?

it can bring 3 mid size tanks or just load up APCs and a couple hundred troops

And take them from where to where? The range on that thing can’t be a whole lot. That’s a lot of money for an amphibious vehicle dedicated to the Black Sea.

the wiki says 560km, I assume that's full fuel and some optimal load. looks good enough to jump from crimea

Strong Red Alert 2 vibes.

Hell March intensifies

And the worlds sexiest IFV, the BTR

That thing is Zubr cool

Is that the helicarrier!

Is this even real?

That’s a load of hot air

I heard the Russians have technology that is leagues above what they let the public see. This photo is kinda scary.

Is this thing capable of travelling on land though? Hovercraft are typically amphibious, so can this thing actually float around on the beach and shit?

I looked into it but could only find that it's used as a landing craft, I've gotten the feeling it doesn't really go on land, but if it hovers over the sea it should be able to hover over land right?

don't think its that strict, the us navy has classes if ships classified as amphibious. basically means they drop people and supplies via vehicles, craft, or aircraft coming from the ship or water

Okay then why um have a fucking whole ass boat as a... Hovercraft, when it could just float.

Does it really save more energy or allow it to go faster or what?

very shallow draft, not sure if it can be considered zero draft, boats float but they do that by sinking into the water. so they can't get as close to the shore without dropping their gate or needing barges for the last length. you can let the troop run through the water, some troop carriers are wheeled so they can drive and float. but these can carry tanks or other vehicles that can't make the transition. you could probably run or bike faster than this can travel in land. it just needs to get deep enough so any vehicles coming off don't get trapped in mud.

edit: at least in exercises ive seen they aren't going pedal to the medal on land

This is like a boss battle from the Seek and Destroy video game

Dat bitch is amphibian

That thing must be loud AF.

200 mm lens can do magic stuff haha

so that's why they took, Crimea. they can roll 3 dice with air, land and sea assault

This bad boy can fit so many eels

That blows

We about to have some sick ass WW3 games in 2030

Edit: oof 😅

Looks like a precursor to mortal engines

I had the GI Joe one of those as a kid.

How freaking loud is this thing? Do the fellas even get to sleep on there?

motherofgod.gif

Big tray.

the Zubr is the kind of thing i see in a dream that might be a nightmare

The world's most impractical hovercraft too, I guess.

That’s… a real big hovercraft.

You could say, it is an… absolute unit

But no one’s gonna mention the dog on the floatie next to it though?

It's going to take a big tugboat to get that back to port

How the hell would you ride in this thing? Wouldn't the fans be deafening? Or does it just cruise at like 5kph and the blades barely turn?

“This isn’t some group with goats and AK’s,” but fails to realize that the Soviets got their asses handed to them by the Mujahideen and some stinger missiles. The United States isn’t Georgia or the Crimea either. In a conventional war, head to head, Russia gets destroyed and it’s not even close. That’s with no other outside forces aiding either country.

I really don't know much about military, but aren't these things pretty easy to stop? Like the smallest rocket into the air pockets and that thing will become a stanionary basis

Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zubr-class_LCAC

Looks much smaller in these pics

But, on the beach? https://youtu.be/iXGaM9_zZcM

Stay off the deck while it's running.

It's fake I know cuz the color don't match the tanks bbbbbbbb

Video of the thing coming ashore at a populated beach, for some reason.

Also, it's very noisy.

Ah, thanks for sharing mate!

Is it actually amphibious? Otherwise… why not be a boat?

Russia, why do you have such a big hovercraft?

We call this foreshadowing

This belongs in r/oddlyterrifying

Seems pointless.

Putin must love anime

Looks like something you would board in metal slug.

Absolute command and conquer shit

Yup. I surrender....

If this is real then ukraine surely needs help from more countries.

Uff, that thing is HUGE! I thought it was the poster of a movie at first 😅.

How practical/impractical is a hovercraft of this size in modern physical war?

It takes 4 of these Hovercrafts to Carry Your MoM

dayum how much energy must such a colossus draw?

Imagine the noise that this shit makes

Omg a BTR vehicle:0 I love them

This looks like a screenshot of a shitty mobile game based around war

I KNEW IT WOULD BE RUSSIAN WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YAAAAAA

Zubr duper!

The smoke/sand really adds to the epicness

I want this in a BF game. Not 2042, I mean a functional one.

Where did they paint the Z?

Oddly terrifying.

Fyi Zubr in Arabic is penis. Good name 🤣

Bahaha, big dick energy for sure

They must go in some insane swamps! 😂

Looks like a still from a Neil Blomkamp movie

Imagine how many seagulls you could process with those fans

Coming to a Ukraine near you!

anyone else get r/odlyterrifying vibes off this?

Lun-class ekranoplan

Big target then for any fighter jet.

I want one for stuff and reasons.

Division 2 anyone?

is this the hovercraft that you go inside in the division 2? one of the final story missions i think.

That is a remarkable piece of work

Would that thing work on ice?

But is it full of eels?

This war (unlike the others) is going to not go well

Still, pretty impressive.

That's some wolfenstein shit

on the way to hover up the side of some ukrainian skyscraper

US will have 42 of these by next week.

Zubr, good beer.

Don't tell me that thing can move on land as well

Have you seen the size of their dictator? Can’t be a coincidence 😂

There is a little lord farquaad in every dictator I suppose

My homemade toy

Thats some GI Joe playset shit right there

Waiting this on Ukraine borders

Russia’s Military equipment has always fascinated me. The Caspian Sea Monster always blew my mind.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspian_Sea_Monster

Zubr eats, makes sense now.

That's gotta be loud

How many people do you think got sucked into those propeller blades while they were first testing these?

How does russia afford this but Russians cant afford shoes?

Wonder how many btrs could fit in one.

Wtf is that thing real?

zub zub

Ten of these babies are still active.

The new battlefield 2042 update looks sick always wanted a huge hovercraft

Anyone feel like this is really stupid? Unless they’re ridiculously fast compared to normal ships, those massive propellers would be so easy to damage and immobilize the ship.

Damn thats a big open target!! Lol

x1 JDAM

Reminds me of the hundreds of thousands of deaths that are about to occur.

Not the best time to know about this…

Does it need a tug to get from A to B like their aircraft carrier?

Holy shit

TOTALLY practical

Russians had flying ships in like the 60’s

Photo looks sketchy af

Does it actually work?

"We were so caught up in asking ourselves if we could, we never stopped to consider, if we should" - Sergiy Vladmirovich, creator of World's Biggest Hovercraft

Named after the sound it makes?

Zubrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Nah I suppose it might just look a bit like a Zubr

It's Polish for European bison. 😕

I prefer thinking that it is the sound of the fans starting up.

Honestly, it likely wouldnt make it to shore. It's take 1-2 missiles to take out the propellers.

Looks like one of the ships on Wolfenstein II.

How does that make any sense

POV: (you’re Ukrainian)

It nowhere as big as you think it is that btr closet is almost touching it

A/C inside the Walmart

Propaganda

Hardly a stealth hovercraft.

Nah champ that's a BTR-80A

Why have I never heard of this. Holy

That's some mighty fine CO2 emissions you got there!

Looks like something from Ace Combat.

We Ace Combat/Valkyria Chronicles now boys.

Good. Bigger targets are good.

Fuck. That thing is massive

Hell.. bring on the alien invasion, we ready!

As scary as it looks, I would be more nervous being in that thing because you know the enemy will use the big bomb on it

I said "That is not fuckin' real."

Feels like that seen from Avatar. Absolute unit.

Some of the giant Russian things I’ve seen are so damn menacing and bizarre to me.

The “Caspian Sea Monster” for example:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lun-class_ekranoplan

Video:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7Hv2dsVkA38

A Weapon to surpass Metal Gear

Me before seeing this image: RUSSIAN AGRESSION AGAINST UKRAINE GOT TO STOP!. Me after seeing this image: Okey Russia has the right to defend anything close to water and make cool military videos

So your telling me, that thing will light my squad unit with artillery, then come onto land and run over everything in sight

Photoshopped

Damn… if they invade the Bayou we’re screwed…

Looks like a screenshot from a game

it doesn't look THAT big.

Just shoot for the balloon. What’s the problem?

Quick… get the giant pins!!!

This looks like something straight out of a modern day Star Wars. Looks fake as hell.

That wouldn't take a whole lot to disable.

How resistant are those fans to sand?

Jackie Chan can take that down with a sword. I saw him do it.

Reminds me of letters from a dead man.

Straight out of G.I. Joe 😌😌

RIP to all the seagulls and other birds

A lot of military’s have those. Now will you see it probably not unless your looking for it.

Not something I'd want to be in when rushing an enemy beach under attack. Heck, they could use anti-tank missiles against something that large.

If you pierce it, will it sink?

That thing looks loud as fuck

It'll be nice as a wreck on the shores of the black sea.

We really are living in the 40k timeline aren't we?

That's a ship with extra steps.

its the Helicarrier

This looks like a final boss in a videogame

Poor fish

This looks futuristic as hell

Gonna need a banana for scale.

That's a big bitch! Behemoth

But is it full of eels?

Looks like an Imperial Star Destroyer.

Have we done the Caspian Sea Monster in here yet?

r/megalophobia material.

Thats a smart looking monster machine, What is it's main use in war?

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty afraid of Russia... These guys are something else. Weird thing is, they're rarely on media. Most people (like me) have no fvcking idea how they be living. I'm from Brazil and I could probably name without searching at least 10 college names from the USA. I can also tell you what people from China, India, Mexico (between many others) be eating. I know at least 1 song from every continent. But Russia? It's a mystery. And when they show up on media, it's always about their war power.

Perspective much?

That’s just a boat….

Pros: looks badass

Cons: sprays offloaded infantry over the horizon

Is it full of eels? 😁

Remember in 2013 when their military plowed one thru a crowded beach. Supposedly it was a military firing range. But I couldn't find any sources confirming that.

You know. 90s kid me thought these where the shit, early 2000s rts me loved hybrid land/although terrain units.

Adult me...wonders if this kind of thing is even viable as more then a small niche application. Like this seems like a very fancy troop transport for when you need amphibious movement in a semi safe location. Not gonna scoot em across in small boat, but zip with a hovercraft that can then also get itself off the beach danger zone

I want one

Annnnd they need this why?

r/oddlyterrifying

Ok if I saw this irl. My knees would give up on me. Fuck I'm scared just looking at it in the goddamn picture.

Looks gorgeous

Is this actually real cause that thing is Bad Ass

gif

The Soviet Union really did build some of the biggest wild stuff. Most notably the Tsar Bomba, complete overkill of a hydrogen bomb.

Those little red dots...those are the atomic bombs dropped on Japan in WW2.

Welp, I’ve officially pissed my pants

They can get some ROI by having Rammstein perform on it between invasions.

If this is real I can't imagine the crew has any form of hearing left

Aww how cute. Can it take a direct hit from a nuke? Mhmm

One armor piercing. 50 bmg round is all you need, pop that bag it's over.

even if it was real its not a threat its weakness is literally 4 fans on the back of it! lol fire at those and they are nothing more then a fancy pool floatie lmfaooo

That is indeed, an absolute unit.

I always found the Russian mentality interesting. Oh the west built that? Let's make one even BIGGER!

https://youtu.be/7lAPBK29CdA

Not seen: it’s accompanying tugboat

I wonder what the advantages of an oversized hovercraft are.

Nuke

Doesen't look any bigger than an LCAC

looks son impractical lmao

is it more practical than a normal ship?

Is it any good?

Russia - Го биг ор го ҳомe

This is neither Russian nor real

Can anyone tell me the advantage of using hovercraft over regular ships?

See all the artifacting only on the second APC? #fakenews

Give me a sturdy knife and a snorkel and I’ll sneak up and poke some holes in the bottom !

Why no one remember this hovercraft apearing in Iron-Man Game from 2009? It was a good level...

Anyone else noticing lots of seemingly random and unconnected Russia memes and posts like this indirectly glamorizing Russia while they are starting a war....

100%. I commented something very similar just a little while ago. Definitely more Russian military propaganda going around than normal.

I need banana for scale

They’re gonna win…aren’t they…

We have come to visit your lovely cathedral.

r/megalophobia

Bet this things loud as hell.

One well placed missile and that thing is toast

Worked one time, now waiting on parts.

Stupid question maybe... But why use giant conventional fans rather than some turbine engines for propulsion?

Thought this was bf 2041 dlc.

Zubr means dick in the Middle East.

Hover-smash

Couldn’t you ruin this thing with a pair of anti tank missives?

They must be used off the front lines, right? The skirts and fans must be very vulnerable to even man portable rockets

Fuuuuck I gotta fight that?

I've hitched a ride on a US Navy LCAC with an M1A1 tied down. It could only hold one M1A1 tank though. Does anyone know the Russian craft's weight capacity?

that thing looks like it should be flying around in a star wars movie.

inst it extremely fragile? i mean isnt easy for enemy to do damage to pillow or propellers?

Thats an entire fucking ship!!!

Remember Battlefield 3? 😔

Keep an eye on the Black Sea border, Ukraine

It looks like something that fell out of space.

Thought this was a video game for a sec.

That’s not a hovercraft that’s a hovercity

Why? What's the benefit of this vs idk... A boat?

Ww2 would look like a nerf battle in retrospective.

Is that what they did when the Ekranoplane failed?

Is it stealth?

At least we know what are destroyers will be firing their missiles at.

One sniper with one 50 cal could dismantle this from a mile away. Just pop the bag and it's done. Wtf good is a hovercraft with a popped bag in the middle of a sea?

I aint no snitch but.... thats from marvel universe

Zubr means penis in Arabic

GI Joe fantasies from my childhood are returning with a passion!

What's the point of something that big. Can't fit on a ship or anything. Just seems like one of those things that looks cool but not entirely useful

I’m getting battlefield vibes from this for some reason

Hover bison, nice

F*ckin' Master Chief gonna drop out of a pelican any time now.

Looks like a giant target

What’s the gas mileage on something like that.

Goddamn

What tactical advantage does something like this have in the military? I ask because we don’t have this in the US do we? If something like this is useful we would have one right?

It's a hovercraft, does that mean it can go on land?

Russia really out here with the “Bigger is better mentality.” Like holy shit dude that thing is MASSIVE.

That’s what she said…

Cute, show me when it’s scrap metal.

Okay zubr

I bet that this is so fucking loud

this looks like art from command and conquer

Red alert 3

Would it really be beneficial to have a hovercraft that big? Wouldn’t it get stuck with any sizable obstacle?

Idk im no hovercraft expert so I could be wrong.

Being this large means it can go over quite a bit actually.

And the real benefit is the material carried and defense. This can carry up over half a dozen armoured vehicles (it depends on the exact one) and over 100 fully equipped troops while having 30mm cannons, small AA missiles, and rockets. All going over 60mph.

Yeah I was looking at pictures and I realized it was meant to be a carrier instead of a hovercraft/battleship 😅😅😅

Yeah it makes way more sense

Was this photo taken on a Ukrainian beach this morning?

  1. Pew pew the hover part.
  2. Google CSA Neuse.

Coming to a Ukrainian beach near you!

No mesh or chicken wire in front of those fans..

Coming to a Ukraine near you

Hehehe zubr in Arabic means dick which makes it far better

It'd still get destroyed by a drone w/C5.

The question is how many troops can they deliver to the southern shores of Ukraine next week.

I can picture Putin at the helm shirtless.

Aaah. So the division 2 black tusk hovercraft. I see why the Russians copied it.

Looks stealthy. Probably doesn't make any noise.

Adding driving that sucker to my “yea right Bucket list”

How many are actually operational vs "on the books"?

That belongs in star wars

Air-conditioned beach 😂😂😂

Cries in Ukrainian

Looks like a boss fight from Aero Fighters Assault.

Coming soon to the black sea

Aren’t they easy to take out? Just shoot the air bag on the bottom of it

Damn thing can do a top speed of 116km/h (72m/h) unsustained and a sustained speed of 101km/h (62m/h). That is hella fast for a 555 ton craft on water that is 57meters long and 25.6meters wide. What an absolute unit of technological engineering

Imagine bringing that to an actual war. It's a sitting duck free kill.

I remember this from the Division!

Is this actually real???

Ok now I think they’re going to win eek!

somewhat exaggerated by telephoto lens

Is this Ukraine?

The first wave of robots is here… defend MannCo!

The bigger they are the harder they fall.

Please don’t tell me this thing actually floats

Looks like it

It floats on air.

Jeremy Clarkson: interesting…

This is somebodys Rescue Heroe's vehicle

Couldn't you just pop the bottom part to incapacitate it?

Woah.., What is it good for..?

Screw Russia

Can it go on land?

whats it sound like when running

Why?

Perfect example of why navy ships are that particular kind of gray

Red Alert is back!

Comrad hovercraft.

Well it unfortunately looks like comrad hovercraft is gonna get some real use 😭

Till the Ukrainians hit it with a couple javelins. Then it’ll be the world largest hovercraft wreckage.

What is the deal with Russia and making really goofy, giant and impractical machines?

These aren’t that impractical.

That’s Massive 😳

Coming soon to a Ukrainian beach near you!

..as seen at the Ukrainian border ?

Goodbye Ukraine…fuck

Can anyone tell me the advantages of this being a hovercraft instead of a boat?

It’s mostly that these can reach many more landing sites than boats. Shoals and reefs and the like at shallow depth are very common off of shores, as well as more difficult beaches themselves. They can case great issue for normal landing craft but not these.

They are also pretty fast

I hope the Jedi are with us.

Damn that’s intimidating

The only battleship in the world that can be sunk by stray roadside debris

What do we have because that thing is a monster

It’s not that big, the camera is very very far away from both subjects

You sure? Look at the size of the control center.

If the craft is actually as far as it looks, then it’s lens compression, if it’s actually a lot closer than it looks then they probably just lowered the black point

Lens compression is what I was referring to in my og comment tho

It’s definitely lens compression tho

*slaps deck* "You can invade so many Ukraines with this bad boy."

Is the hovercraft full of eels?

Why?

That looks pretty Epic.

Holy shit dude...

It’s settled, then. Russians really are just Slavic rednecks. Bc if that ain’t a fanboat, then idk what else to call it (note: I love oversimplification)

slaps deck... "You can fit so many eels in this bad boy!"

I like the hungarian version better. That one comes with eels.

Would be lovely campfire to watch at.

See one in action soon

What makes this thing worth while? Is it much faster than a boat?

immediate flash to Armored Core and Ace Combat bosses thanks for the faux nostalgia.

Absolute unit of democracy

How far would this get inland of the United States before being stopped if it reached the coast?

hey what the fuck

But is it full of eels?

Coming to a theater near you…

God I fucking love BTRs

Maybe right now isn't the best time to go blowing Russian military might.

Zub

Lol, kinda looks like a "solution in search of a problem."

I’m just terrified thinking about being the comrade out front with those three giant propellers spinning behind you ….NOPE

That thing flies?

That’s a thic boy right there. Imagine innocently wind surfing and be blown to another country

The robots are here. Quickly, protect mann co!

Looks dumb

Orange circles are 24” life rings - for scale reference

So it can scale buildings

And we might be going to war against THAT.

Akira taught me years ago that future wars must be either fought from space or the mind. This hovercraft is no more than a fancy target.

Straight off a sci fi 3D artist instagram page

How did I not know this existed…

Russia>US&A /s

25 gallons per mile

Battlefield 2042 devs just got a huge boner

Well it’s not going sneak up on you

Coming to a Ukrainian beach near you!

Ngl WW3 looks fucking lit

Coming soon to a Ukraine near you

It is full of eels.

Gib BRDM2

This is especially shocking considering that most of the seas and oceans Russian has direct access to are at least partially frozen for about half the year.

Красота!

leave it to the russians to make the worlds largest anything

Why???

So very cool.

Been waiting for landships for a very long time

still not as powerful as BF2042 hovercrafts

My Lord.

Wtf

Look real good in a scrap yard

That is an actual Boss Battle wtf

Fuck Russia

how does it look in fire tho

Good question… probably the best way to look at it!

It would be also good in gold and yellow as Russia is a big supplier....

I actually looked up the length of that hovercraft and found out that it was 57 meters long the original godzilla (from 1954-1975) was 50 meters this thing is bigger than godzilla

Those giant, expensive pieces of weaponry make spicy targets on a battlefield.

If they are at the battlefield they already served their purpose and tanks and troops are now deployed. My guess would be the drop zone would be hit with airstrikes if there were threats as well. If they made a bad move though it would be like you said a nice juicy target. I cant imagine they can take much fire and still remain useful

A lot of people seem to forget that air support is a thing. The Navy launches the US version from LHA- Helo carriers. A swarm of SuperCobras will keep most threats busy while it lands a few tanks and a company of Marines.

That’s the most Russian thing I’ve seen today

Hmmm. Putin must be compensating for something.

Lol, NATO operates more of these than Russia. Greece has 4 and Russia only has 2. That's pretty fuckin wild.

I kinda wanna see it blow up

Kept thinking it’s photoshopped then finally noticed the guy in an orange vest in front of the command tower. Either he’s 20 ft tall or this is photoshopped because he’s have to be taller than the tank in front of the ship

It’s not photoshop. It’s called compression. It is what happens when you take a photo with a very zoomed in lens.

In any of those pictures where the moon on the horizon looks HUGE then it is probably compression.

example

Heard you invading two days ago

Coming to a Ukrainian shore line near you.

Luckily bombs explode no matter how big you are. Just means a bigger target

Though it must be noted that this is, as far as these things go, a fairly well defended target with small AA missiles and 30mm cannons.

And it would have some nearby escorting craft of either water or air.

They certainly can be taken out. There are some missiles in service pretty much designed for it. But it’s not quite that easy

I don't like it PS I'm from Ukraine

Do their piece of shit aircraft carrier next

Wait so it's an actual hovercraft? Like, it's not even floating - that thing is flying right above the water?????

Mind blown. That's huge.

Edit: watched a few videos. It's not as impressive as the picture looks 🤷‍♀️

Putin’s small penis compensation.

What an impossibly stupid thing to build.

In what regard?

Most nations have seen such vessels as quite useful for getting troops and material where it is needed

That’s gotta be the vaguest thing I’ve ever heard. How often is one of these better than a boat?

For landing troops: Almost every time.

These are faster than boats and get to iirc a few time more of the beaches in the world. The last point is really why hovercraft are popular today with many navies, as it opens up strategic level possibilities

Nobody lands troops anymore

Troops are always transported to where they are needed. It doesn’t happen often especially in this type only because there have been significant conflicts requiring it

Looks useless against an Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer. It might look cool, but it would be destroyed quickly by any carrier group.

Of course.

Though no landing craft ever could

Who needs a landing craft when you have a carrier group full of UAVs and F-16’s and destroyers that can launch guided missiles lol

Honestly screw Putin. I’ve met many Russian people that I’ve had fun with, but Putin is a bully. We’ll blow up his forces on the Ukraine border the second they cross.

Everyone still needs landing craft. There’s a reason the US has like 90 hovercrafts of their own.

There still needs to be a way to land troops and equipment

Everybody still has tanks too. Who is using them? War has changed. It’s not about boots on the ground as much anymore.

We may have the landing craft, but I doubt we’ll use them anytime soon.

No point when a drone can just destroy a tank.

Who is using tanks? . . . Literally everyone in a suitable conflict.

Drones and other aircraft simply can’t do everything.

Lol tanks are useless against guided missile destroyers, fighter jets, and UAVs. A tank group would never make its way across a border…

A US UAV can destroy an entire city. NATO is fully capable of destroying a tank. Why risk the life of someone when you can launch a rocket remotely.

It depends on the tank. There are AA ones that indeed are not useless against them. But that’s not the point.

War isn’t just about destroying someone of your opponents’ equipment. There are objectives to capture and maintain.

Those missile destroyers, fighter bombers, and drones are pretty good at supporting thing. Taking out key areas or equipment. But they can’t directly support infantry in the same way or affect the ground campaign by the themselves as much.

And there is no UAV that can destroy a city.

Everyone can destroy a tank. Always have been. Doesn’t mean they aren’t important

I have seen footage of a MQ-9 Reaper drone fly around around a city in Iraq 3 times and the city was destroyed. It was pure ISIS. All citizens abandoned it.

They have almost replaced fighter jets. A carrier group could also deploy a B2 Bomber if it needed to.

Sure, we have Humvee and Tanks. But that’s a bit 2004. That requires an invasion. We can use a number of assets before resorting to deploying our servicepeople.

An MQ-9 has a payload capacity of 3800 kg. Substantial sure, but also half that of an F16. It’s not what I would call destroying a city.

No, drones have not replaced fighter jets. They have taken some of the manned aircraft, though as far as I have ever seen not any air to air (which is what makes a fighter a fighter) or some other roles like anti-shipping.

Yes, in many circumstances these assets can be used instead of deployment. But then you’re barely talking about a war considering what limited things can be done without troops on the ground

Im pretty sure it won’t be about all by itself

It would be destroyed before reaching any beach. France, Italy, Canada and the US have carrier groups wherever Russia has a seaside border.

Propaganda photo using forced perspective to exaggerate the size

Just a big ol target. Hard to miss.

The way they are going, that’ll be in the scrapyard soon enough

Think this will be used for an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation by a pissy little dictator like Putin?

We get it Russian astroturfers, your army is full of big manly straight men.

Go away now.

What is it with all the posts jerking off Russia's military lately? You'd think they were about to invade another country or something...

They fixed the Avengers' Helicarrier. Nice.

Fuck Russia

Upvoted, can you upvote me back?,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,

Oh so big, and completely useless.

ATGMs to the rescue

If I'm not mistaken, these were built in Ukraine.

Здарова комрады 🖐

Um what's going on?

Hate to say it I don’t think Ukraine has a chance any more

These are actually made by Ukraine lmao. Greece has 4 of them, China has 4 and Russia has 2.

Why is russia (seemingly) the only big country that uses hovercrafts?

That is absolutely untrue.

There are many countries who use them, including the US who have a smaller hovercraft landing craft

Thats why i said seemingly. I barely see any pictures about hovercraft and if i see one its usually russian

The US has around 100 LCACs. They also have specialized ships that carry them. One end of the ship opens up, and these things come flying out. I drive by them almost everyday, they are off the coast of San Diego, training everyday.

Greece has 4 of the same hovercrafts, China has 4 and Russia only has 2. They aren't the only country that operates these.

Coming to a town near you

With a range of 300 miles, I think most of the world is safe from these. Europe however...

Tactically useless. Good job Russia

Cool, this is terrifying 😅

Russia winning

Soon coming to a beach near you

You see two tanks and feel like you are fucked then through the smoke you see that

Coming to a shore near you!

If we're ever plunged into WWIII and I'm drafted only to come face to face with this thing, I'm laughing and throwing down my weapon. Sorry, I'm no Jedi, I can't fight the whole ass empire lol

Of course its the Russians, it's ALWAYS the Russians that do this cool shit.

Coming to a Ukrainian beach near you

Let me guess, USA? Really cool. I can't afford my health insurance but at least there's that thing. That helps.

Did you read the title?

CCCP always needed to have everything biggest, wonder why Mr. Putain

[deleted]

You can pretty easily Google it

[deleted]

It’s just under 200 feet long, actual warships are much larger

The US Navy has them as well. I've ridden on them several times. I was on the smaller ones that carry up to 12 7-ton trucks or 9 M1 Abrams, ect... They're typically used for amphibious assault or getting people an gear off ship to where's there's no port. Navy is trying to get away from LSV and light landing craft and using giant ass hovercrafts. Goddam things are loud AF.

I've only seen the big ones at distance but the regular use one I was on would fit inside the big one, it's big but not a whole lot bigger, just enough to give a ride to small ones if it breaks down

world's* biggest

worlds = more than one world

This worlds biggest then…?

Nah, worlds is good. I'm fairly certain that there are alot of planets without a hovercraft at all!

Why is this a thing? Seems like a weird waste of resources. Then again, it is Russia...

Its not weird or a waste, just quite specific.

This was made to be able to conduct a contested landing in the Cold War/modern era.

If one has to do the modern D-Day, then the Russians have decided to be prepared with a landing craft that not only can bring a quite substantial amount of forces quickly in one go, but also has some firepower to defend itself

Difficult to maneuver and predictable. 2/10

I don’t believe either of those things matter all too much in the circumstances of use considering they are to be part of combined arms warfare and there’s not an alternative

Because they know more than you and you’re just a Redditor. Easy answer.

Reminds me of GIGAKUBICA

nazi insanity $$4what? MURDER

Just dropping by quickly to say that Zubr means penis in Arabic. Which in a way is appropriate for a weapon of war, as most wars are pretty much nothing but dick swinging contests.

Well fuck

That looks unnecessary

Woah

Pretty sure I stormed a beach in this at the beginning of Final Fantasy 8.

Jesus imagine living on a small costal town in the England or something and you se that shit coming towards you

Well, one could at least be pretty assured then that the Royal Navy will have obliterated all the others and we’re coming for this one

Back in the early 2000s I saw Navy Seals do a land warfare demonstration with the LCACs near Ft.Story Virginia.. The LCACs rolled up on the beach, Seals jumped out and secured the area.. Pretty damn impressive but you heard the hovercrafts long before you saw them appear on the horizon..

It looks like a Marvel movie SHIELD vehicle.

What are the advantages of a hovercraft? Just curious.

Mostly it’s so that they can get to a majority of beaches. Things like shallow shoals or reef somewhat off the coast which would make them inaccessible to other landing craft these just glide over.

Banana for scale?

I hear the Red Alert 2 intro when looking at this photo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENyxseq59YQ&ab_channel=0STrack

When you play Warhammer and have access to goverment money.

Nice concept better have a resealing tech on the bottom rubber tho or 1 50 cal will annihiliate it

Im in N.A. that i can hear it roaming from there

Does it come in black?

That's Zubr duper big

Could get real,scary times.

Do they have them in Crimea?

I can’t imagine it being a quiet ride. We sometimes have US LCACs in the bay and you can hear them coming for miles.

I wonder if that can climb up a building

Oh my gosh that’s real?! For a sec I thought it was something in a game or some artwork someone made

Ukraine better load up the defense along the black sea.

So cool! Looking forward to having to defend a beachhead against a fleet of them once I get drafted

Why do nazis always make their military vehicles so huge?

Won’t last long once the United States launches its drones

Coming to a Ukrainian beach near you very soon!

Now coming to a Ukrainian beach near you

Everything Russians put their hands on it becomes 17 times bigger

All we need now is a glimpse of Cobra Commander and this image would make much more sense.

How many fucking animals does that big bertha bitch kill in those fan blades?

Juicy JDAM target

If the invade they need the Wolverines to defend

If you zoom in you can see a Savage flying lol. Someone better request there Hydra and go shoot it down. He’ll never know what hit him lol he he he- some 9 year old very likely.

Foickin ‘elle mate. Look at the size of that sucker.

Only ran for one day, specifically for this photo shoot.

Damn.

Reddit. Why are you assisting Russian propaganda? Just an honest question. And, trust me, if the Russians produced this, it isn’t much. I will gladly accept my lifetime ban.

I don’t see why this would be Russian propaganda honestly. But in any case:

One can’t just discount all Russian equipment like that. They have much very well made and designed equipment

Gosh. I dunno? Why would Russia be interested in propaganda now? Golly! Imma play stupid and hope no one notices.

Clearly Russia has reason to Huber propaganda.

I’m saying I don’t see how this would be propaganda as an image. Russia has a big hovercraft. How does that knowledge help them in showing the west?

If anything this shows them as more of a threat then some people thought which means wanting more resistance against them. It’s not like this is going to make people be afraid of them

Really? You can’t see how this stuff works? I’m amused that anyone can look at Ukraine and think Putin is accidental. He’s simple. He’s cruel. He’s not very bright. But most of all he’s transparent. He fuels white supremacy around the globe and sows division via internet propaganda that pits countrymen against countrymen and has been in a sustained information war against the west for over a decade, but this…this “look at how tough Vlad has made Russia,” this you think is accidental and benign? You, if you live in a Western Democracy, have been at war with Putin for more than a decade, but you are too ??? to see the nose on your face. Nah. No one is that stupid, Commrade! Say hi to Vlad for me. He’s the little man with his lips stuck to Xi’s zipper.

I really don’t see what you’re saying.

Putin I think is bright, unfortunately. This is a calculated move to try and either influences Ukraine and or make NATO appear weak.

I have not seen such information tying the Russians to things like white supremacy around the world, but even if that is a thing, it’s fairly minor in this global scheme of things. There is an information war waging on many fronts, but in the case of Ukraine, a lot of it is more simple geopolitics

r/megalophobia

heavy Waterboy sounds

Looks like Russia only had two of them in 2018 according to Wikipedia.

It's hard to tell how big the hovercraft actually is.

Can we get a banana for scale please?

That’s Zubr Awesome

Some outside closeup videos, lower your headphones volume:

On a sand beach

On a dock

A news video that has some inside closeups.

Ah, thanks for sharing mate

What the fuck why am I just hearing about this now?

Ah yes. Drop a few metal chains in those fans and lets see it become a sitting duck.

I like your thinking. Must be big ass chains though and hurling them won’t be that easy. I bet it vaporises your average bicycle chain 😂

I can defiantly see the air force flying over this thing from space and inch perfect calculations a very durable steel chain hits those fans.

Was just watching the sci-fi series Tales from the Loop and 770 was the number on this sphere and then I find this post.

Funnily enough, Zubr means dick in Arabic.

Uhm I'm sorry What?

[Cleetus has entered the chat]

Pro-Russian military propaganda as they prepare to invade Ukraine. Nice

This war is gonna suck

Those rotors look pretty vulnerable, feel like you could turn that into brick with relative ease.. just saying, like there’s a reason the US haven’t got em 😅

They do though

In service 1986 - present 97 units Cost per unit: 27 - 41 Mio $

there is more

Mate…. There’s landing crafts and there’s landing crafts. The one in this photo is of the Corellian variety

Yeah, you are right mate. Point taken.

From Wikipedia: The Zubr-class landing craft has a cargo area of 400 square metres (4,300 sq ft) and a fuel capacity of 56 tons.[1] It can carry three main battle tanks (up to 150 tonnes), or ten armoured vehicles with 140 troops (up to 131 tonnes), or 8 armoured personnel carriers of total mass up to 115 tonnes, or 8 amphibious tanks or up to 500 troops (with 360 troops in the cargo compartment).

At full displacement the ship is capable of negotiating up to 5-degree [gradients](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_(slope)) on non-equipped shores and 1.6 m (5 ft 3 in)-high vertical walls. The Zubr class remains seaworthy in conditions up to Sea State 4. The vessel has a cruising speed of 30–40 [knots](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knot_(unit)) (56–74 km/h; 35–46 mph).

Yeah... not sure why were extolling the glory of the Russian military in times like these

For some reason those huge fans terrifies me.

Ah, so you have met the heavy Gustav I presume 😊

How useful are hovercrafts in military operations? My understanding of hovercraft was that they could only go maybe a 4th to a half mile inland because most terrain is just too much for them to handle. I've also heard that they don't really handle on very large waves which really only makes them ideal for things like battleship to shore landings correct? And I would imagine one this big would have even more problems in terms of terrain navigation than a smaller lighter hovercraft?

Found Putin’s burner

Zubr-class LCAC

The Zubr class (Project 1232. 2, NATO reporting name "Pomornik") is a class of Soviet-designed air-cushioned landing craft (LCAC). The name "Żubr" is Polish for the European bison. This class of military hovercraft is, as of 2012, the world's largest, with a standard full load displacement of 555 tons.

lol, does it work? I mean it looks like a toy. someone linked a video which is clearly not this pic. Good luck russy.

That thing won’t get stuck in the mud

I swear I've seen way more Russian military posts today, all basically boasting their "might". Almost positive this is intentional Russian propaganda.

It’s looks like the final boss of a 90s video game

Bruh this coming in for season 1 for battlefield 2042

First god why second I want one

Well I know where the final boss is at

Evil boss: *laughs you ll never get pass my minions laughs again

Coming to Ukraine soon…

Coming to a Ukrainian coastline near you.

Makes me want to write sci fi again.

Can’t wait to see the video of that thing getting blown to bits.

Do anyone know why it is useful to have an overcraft of this size ?

Why gas prices are so high

Just why??

Take a picture for us, Ukraine!

Can't wait to see it burning. Wonder how good it is against some well placed javelin rounds.

I see 2 cwis, what else?

Imagine how loud that thing is.

Wow. Check out the dimensions of the darn thing in the “General Overview” section of its Wikipedia page!

r/submechanophobia would have a field day with this

Why? What’s the point of this vs a boat

Because it can go on land also?

They can beach themselves, they’re not going to be hauling inland

Still got nothing on the Pompey hovercraft

Looks like an imperial destroyer

And that is a fat ass fart rught there

I can hear boss music

Looks like Easter Island statues on the front.

A fleet of these rolling up on D-Day would have had the Germans questioning orders

Looking at it from the back, it could be sponsored by OnlyFans...

I love how the Russians just always have to do it bigger.

This looks like something out of the Just Cause series.

But how many nuclear bombs can it take is the real question we are asking.

Let's hope that doesn't go to Ukraine...

Coming soon to a Ukrainian base near you!

Better picture of the size

Several missles from a US drone will stop that thing. Then it will be the worlds biggest paperweight.

I hope they only made one

can anyone even stand on the deck when the propellers start funneling monstrous amounts of air through them ?

All I see is a massive maintenance nightmare. I was in an amphib transportation unit in the mid 90s, and they fail a LOT. Turns out sand and salt water is terrible for what amounts to an low altitude aircraft.

Boy I bet that motherfucker is loud as shit.

Looks like an inefficient ineffective piece of garbage to me.

Putin - Time to kick the tires and light the fires boys!

Coming soon to a Ukraine near you

and y’all still tryna go to war huh 🙄🙄

How much fuel does that thing use??

It’s crazy how big certain things are. Like you go your whole life thinking “oh man, construction sites have some big vehicles”, then you see a dragline excavator and it blows your mind.

When you have fought all the hovercraft, you have to fight the final boss: the Lovecraft Hovercraft

That's an awesome pic!

is that real? crazy russian propaganda here lol

Rumble in the Bronx vibes

Must be easy to hit with a cruise missile.

Those propellors must be the biggest in the world to

Looks useless.

So, it’s a battleship that can go on land? That’s great 😂

Hovercrafts were always one of those things that look neat on paper, but are practically worthless in real life.

That looks super quiet

Why,what purposes this serves

"zubr" sorta means 'penis' in arabic

Zubr = bison

What purpose would something like this serve? Surely it’s too big to actually traverse on land right?

I can hear it thru this picture. Sounds like distant thunder.

The mobile oppression palace!

Seems pretty susceptible to getting fucked in the turbines

the specs on this machine defy any logic.... i cannot mentally process the performance of this machine

it has a 5 x 10,000hp gas turbines with 4 x superchargers but it only weights up to 550 tons

so it has the power of a frigate but it has less than 10% of the weight and its cruise speed is as high as 110km/h or 65mph...

it has stuff all range though at 550km but its sustained speed is higher than most civilian powerboats and hydrofoils

i would assume since greece owns some the US have pored over every detail

That’s some command and conquer shit right there.

That looks fake!

That is cool as hell, but if you look at the anatomy of it (video), this will not survive even basic warfare. A well placed RPG could ground that entire thing, maybe even sink it. I'm sure they have some kind of countermeasures but I think there are good reasons you don't see these often.

I'm sure it works as well as the automobiles they produce.

Is the foreground a BTR-80?

Looks like a big fucking target if you ask me.

Looks great to sink when WW3 starts

Um… exsqueeze me?

Book your fights! This magnificent machine and it’s revolutionary engineering can only be seen off the coast of Ukraine for the next month…. Or 10 to 15 years.

I will say this was 2042

This looks like an enormous waste of money!

That’s actually pretty cool

Meanwhile, the rest of Russia is starving….

Nice. Big. Target.

Photo is shopped. Looks like they added in extra 'fog' to make the tank in the background and the ship look a lot more distant than it really is. They aren't that big. Or maybe it's just a particular lens. Anyway:

Zubr has a length of 57m.

Nimitz aircraift carriers have a length of 332m.

thats a btr80 8 wheeled apc

its about 7.5m so i dont think they manipulated the scale... that Zubr looks 7-8 times as long

That's Outer Haven.

Mann CO. is under attack! Quickly, get to an upgrade station!

That's some Gundam looking shit.

HOLY SHIT

They're a nice beach

Damn

Russia really watched the Avengers documentary and needed to one up the US.

Where is captain blyat?

Soon: coming to a beach near you..!

Lame. Dies to removal.

No Fing way is this real? You can’t even be mad that’s bad ass

I like the BTR-80 just vibeing

Can it travel on land?

In Russia, land travel under ship

Ahh the enclave megabase thingy… I knew it was real all along 👀👀!

So terrifying, yet so beautiful

These seem unusable in actual battle. I know the rubber bottom is probably pretty tough but I’m sure any amount of just small arms fire will damage it enough to put it out of commission

How many eels can that thing hold?

How much to fill up the tank? Can you spot me half

If I made a pew pew ship this big it would be powered by an Epstein drive, not a couple fans in the back.

The Funato from today's Boruto episode.

That looks like a dope metal gear rising boss fight area

I promise it is a lot smaller then this picture makes it look. The APC or whatever that is in the middle is right next to it if that helps

How do you say star destroyer in Russian?

Звездный разрушитель or разрушитель звёзд

Interesting

So what is this thing's strategic advantage? What does this do that is not accomplished by other previously existing craft?

Bruh looks like a star destroyer or summn that looks so fake but I know it's real

Recce report as fallows 2 Btr-80s and 1 super star destroyer in the open.

We better do a surprise reveal of a Hellicarrier.

Putin is a lot shorter in real life.

That seems... really, really impractical, especially for any kind of military engagement. I just wonder why they made it other than laying claim to the biggest one.

Meanwhile people are dying from hunger… while these bastards build entire shitshipps to go to war as if it was a nice thing… we can’t evolve while people like Putin exits

Holy shit lol, now that's an absolute unit.
