Over the break my post nasal drip morphed into a pretty annoying globes sensation, with tired vocal cords and a feeling of something being stuck in my throat. Naturally, I assumed the worst.

Well, today, I saw the ENT, and it was simply a mixture of post nasal drip and silent GERD. He also said he's seen a lot of people in my situation.

I post this to counteract all the stories we all keep seeing about people finding out the worst, or the fact that every movie shows someone cough once and then you're at their funeral. The body is loud and it does things and it creates sensations but that doesn't mean there's a terrible story attached. Get checked out if you can but please don't try to be your own doctor.

I also was diagnosed with silent reflux. The symptoms started the worst HA episode for me in 2020 before I got diagnosed xorrectly and got professional help

I think I have this. How are you treating it?

Low acid diet (no antacid meds yet). He said do that for two weeks and if there’s no improvement or things get worse to call. Antacid meds would be the next step I guess.

But I looked at my throat with my own eyes. There’s nothing in there except tissue irritation.

It's only irritated but can feel like there are almost holes in it. I guess our bodies really help us here by sending strong signals very early

Also I bet you and I are people with high body awareness. Others are completely oblivious. You know those stories about women who only find out they’re pregnant when they go into labor? These people actually exist. I’m not sure it’s true but I sort of tell myself that when people have deadly diseases “sneak up” on them, what’s really going on is that they simply tolerate symptoms for a long time that you or I would get checked out quickly.

Yeah that's exactly what I think as well. At least for like 80% of "sudden sicknesses"

Hey man can you give me some tips on a low acid diet please?

This link is pretty close to what I’ve been doing. Just so you know, this diet sucks. It’s no fun. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/gerd-diet-foods-that-help-with-acid-reflux-heartburn

I have had this for two months.!

Ugh sorry. I’m at about a month myself. I also found that it’s not as bad if I can relax the muscles in my neck and shoulders.

Did he prescribe anything? Im taking. Ppi for a two weeks but no change so far.

Not yet. Lifestyle changes only for now.

Same here. Covid has only made it worse.

how are you now?

I’m OK! I actually had a mild recurrence recently but it was totally obvious what it was so I didn’t stress over it and it went away fast.

what medication did hou take and how long did you take it?

Aloe juice to settle the reflux, and sucralfate syrup to form a barrier over the tissue so it could heal. It took a while. Like a month. It hasn’t been nearly that bad since.

Hey have you been prescribed anything for your gerd? Also have the same but lanzoprozole(?) doesn’t seem to be working

In the past, yes. But my ENT wants to start with behavior and diet modification because he doesn't like the side effects that antacids sometimes have. I'm even dialing back my caffeine from coffee to green tea and I am STRUGGLING yo.

How are you now? All better yet?

Mostly! Still some irritation back there and I had a little globus for like an hour but most of the day I feel pretty normal.
