He’s talking about Kill La Kill if anyone is wondering

Yeah and he forgot that first you have to defeat all the evil High school clubs before you are ready to save the world from the evil clothes.

I'm glad that in the end they finally killed the kill.

I want to think this is a joke, but having made the mistake of watching Evangelion as my first anime I wouldn't be surprised.

It's all tumbling down hill from here

More like tumbling down an upward escalator

The last couple of episodes of that show set the bar for just how far and how fast a show can go COMPLETELY off the rails.

I will never rewatch it and I hope to god nothing ever raises that bar.

Lol the last couple episodes of that show were made that way because they ran out of budget - the movie is the true ending

The show is the good ending and EoE is the bad ending and they're both masterpieces.

I think they are the same ending, shown from different perspectives

In the original ending Shinji is able to heal and move on and in EoE he is too far gone by the time instrumentality hits. Instrumentality happens in both endings so they're not that different but I think the protagonist's outcome is important enough to distinguish them.

He rejects instrumentality in both cases. In the show he said something like "it's okay for me to be here, maybe I can learn to like myself" and in the EoE he said that he still doesn't know where to find happiness but that he'll keep on looking for it. The message is the same, the presentation is just different. They tell the same story, just differently. Like, sure, there was a happy cheerful music with people clapping at the end of the show but the meaning is the same.

I just started watching darling in the franxx and I think they fuck to be able to properly operate mechs or something I dunno

No lie Kill La Kill was a fucking banger of a show. Insane animation, great story, hilarious tongue-in-cheek fanservice that's actually incorporated as part of the plot, and quite possibly the best villain intro/theme song of all time.

Does fan service being self aware make it any less cringey that it’s net effect is sexualizing a teenager for a majority adult male audience?

If you think the oversexualization of teenagers is bad in anime don't even look into how gross some are with children.... yikes

Every Anime fan I've met who watches that sub-genre is 1 step away from "age of consent in Japan is 12, btw I'm moving to Japan to teach english"

What sub-genre is that?

The show seems desperate to convince you it's okay to enjoy it. It's "satirical" or "empowerment" or whatever other excuses they think you need to rationalize your ogling minors.

There are times that the show does specifically make nudity or otherwise skimpy dress look non-sexual (or uncomfortably sexual) for comedic or dramatic purposes, which really draws attention to how most of it is clearly meant to be enjoyed.

And it's a real shame because everything else about the show besides its joking-not-joking fetishizing of teenagers genuinely is really good. It kept me watching to the end. I want to be able to just love what I love about it and not care about the rest. But the rest really is bad and anyone who claims otherwise isn't being honest about it.

I mean, the core storyline is literally built around the concept. So if we follow your rationality, the whole show might as well not exist.

Besides, it really comes off that your issue is your inability to separate your own prudishness from your ability to enjoy what most consider to be a very clever, well-written, well-animated show.

Do parts of it make me a bit uncomfortable? Yeah. Generally speaking, that's the whole point.

Do I stop my train of thought there and write the show off as "an excuse to show boobas"? No.

There's a difference between being prude and being uncomfortable with teenagers being blatently sexualized. For me, that wasn't the final reason I stopped watching it.

You literally referred to it as "fanservice". No matter what else you add on top of it, the baseline of your description is saying that hypersexualized minors is what the audience wants to see.

So if we follow your rationality, the whole show might as well not exist.

Like I said, the show occasionally demonstrates a capacity to use near-or-total teenage nudity to convey its themes without an intent to titillate the audience. The show can very much exist in a different form. It chose not to.

Personally, yeah. It's a clever spin that both satirizes and embraces a trope. I'm not going to make an argument that the subject matter is "art", but I respect the fact that the writers put a good amount of thought behind the story besides "what's the minimum we have to do in order to just get to the next shot of yabbos?"

Fucking love blumenkranz lol

It is an absolute banger, no argument here

it's one of the ugliest artstyles out there however, can never get into it because of how ugly it looks

it could of been worse

he could be explain the plot of Kakegurui compulsive gambler.

I'll have to tell my mom about it later

I remember trying to explain the plot of Attack on Titan to my wife, and she just looked at me in confusion when I was like >!the walls are made of titans!!<

It's a silly show.
