shits fucking ugly holy fuck

1 billion dollars

1 billion dollars huh? That's almost enough to buy out dogecoin and a few games on steam. Hell, I could even make almost two whole payments on my student debt loans. I'd say it's ironic I went into debt going to college to get a degree in Digital Heists, only to have to do heists to pay it back in an unending cycle, but I'm not a goddamn English major. I'm not paid to think. I'm paid to steal.

You knew I couldn't resist you son of a bitch. I'm getting the gang back together. We are going to raid the NFT bank, steal all the NFTs and sell them on the black market for triple, no, even double their worth. We will be swimming in those new cryptos. Buy em' during the dip, then sell when they crash. Stay unpredictable so the feds can't track us.

It ain't going to be easy, but I can't say I'm gonna break sweat heh. Grab your leather hacking jacket and tinted Oakleys, crack open a mountain dew code red, let's break into this mainframe. We are going to raid those ugly monkey pictures.

Didn't realize Bain had a Reddit account

"Guys the drill!"

Hi, FYPhoto

P.S I fucking hate nfts

What type of 80s Kung Fury hacker are you?

Yeah it’s not worth money because it looks good, its worth money due to rampant speculation with people only wanting to make money, it’s like the retro video game collection Industry, or modern art

The retro video game collection industry really sucks for those of us who just want to play those old games for fun.

Imagine paying money for these things, half of these nfts are those shitty pixel art cryptopunk things. All so that you can say you have a digital signature saying this copy of this image is yours, even though it’s basically just licensing it in a legal sense.

NFTs could unironically have some interesting uses, instead it’s all this crap with someone trying to make as much money possible on as little effort as possible.

Gimme some interesting uses. I can't think of any, but I'd love to learn.

All nft’s really are is a reliable way to certify ownership of something, so for recording digital transactions like, say, digital music downloads or like game skins it would work fairly well. NFT’s are just hyped as a speculative commodity like cryptos when that’s not what they are at all. It’s become a buzzword like blockchain it’s based off. Could be used for tickets to concert, events, flights, etc.

Even those uses are kinda bullshit when you think about it. Just companies trying to force a classical form of ownership onto goods that don't have them.

Well I did provide some examples of goods that do have the classical idea of ownership, like tickets, and just removing the burden of proof on who confirms ownership. Rather than having a physical ticket saying “I am allowed to go here”, you have a digital signature saying the holder of this is allowed to go there, and it can be intrinsically trusted that this is the true owner due to the way stake is verified on the blockchain.

There are certainly grifters using this to try and monetize really shitty stuff, but I mean, that’s being done now. I don’t really see how you find nft’s that different in concept than buying like a trading card, a cheap copied painting, or a ticket. I definitely think the current way nft’s are used is completely stupid, but the concept certainly has merits.

I completely glossed over your last sentence, that was on me, sorry. But even there, I don't see how it's anything more than fixing something that's not broken with the technology we have now. I've never bought a bogus ticket from a vendor, and everyone knows third party sales are buyer beware no different than purchasing from a scalper down the street from the venue.

It’s honestly not really a super attractive technology when you boil it down to what it actually is. It really is just another way to do things we already do, just brought into a more digital age form. It’s mostly solving the problem of trusting whether somebody actually owns something on the internet and moving it from dedicated servers to a decentralized database. These uses are interesting, but it isn’t groundbreaking. But it does have the benefit of no buyer beware, only the owner of an nft can transfer it without some third party access. You are getting what you buy, you just might be buying something that shouldn’t really have much value.

and it can be intrinsically trusted

Problem is that it can't. It can proof that you really own that token, but not if what the token says is true.

I could sell you an NFT with a link to the Mona Lisa, and everyone can really see that you own that Token. But how do you prove what you really own the Mona Lisa from that?

It's just stupid. The Airline doesn't need to secure their own tickets with a distributed database. They can just store them in their system, which they can just trust because it's theirs.

That
that isn’t how that works. Dude why are you necroing a month old thread? Nobody’s going to see this.

But you saw it ♄

Yeah it just doesn't make sense at all. It's just companies misusing some blockchain as a database for their proprietary data.

I.e. what's the point of storing your flight ticket in a globally distributed database (that is slow and expensive to use)? Why not just store it on normal servers that the airline runs?

It only makes sense for "universal" assets which might possibly be used by multiple different companies or services for something.

E.g. if you owned a gun skin, and you could use that exact same skin in CS:GO, Fortnite and COD. But that's realistically not going to happen.

even though it’s basically just licensing it in a legal sense

I don't think it's even that. You don't own any rights to the image just by buying the NFT.

Yea, I never said you owned the rights to the image. You are licensing a digital signature in a database that links to a hosts for that image. If that host goes down, well, you’re sol.

Also, damn dude lol, how’s you find this thread?

It was linked in r/NFTArds

All I said was nfts have some legit uses lmao, why are y’all linking me there. I think the current uses are asinine and stupid.

Edit: oh it was just the post fair enough

Seriously. They think the more obscure shit they put on their stupid fucking monkey the better it looks

Me when I was 10 making an avatar or character in any videogame

Actual question tho is this actually considered stealing? Like could you be arrested if you start distributing this?

Not at all. An nft is essential a token on a picture, that's what they're trading. The picture itself isn't worth anything.

What if I started selling screenshots of the tokens as their own NFTs? 👀

idk but this is clearly massive trolling >:)

Nah, the government doesn't give a fuck.

No. The picture is just a representation of the NFT.

No. On a technical level you've already "stolen" the image as soon as it loads on your monitor.

It would be copyright infringement, just like distributing anything else that isn't CC0/Public Domain that you don't have the licence for. But no-one would care unless it was on a huge scale or had direct financial impact.

The NFT owner does not own the rights to the image though

I wasn't referring to the NTF, I was referring to what OP is doing, as that's what the person I responded to was referring to, no?

I see what you mean, it would be copyright infringement all the same, but in this case I think the original commenter was referring specifically to the connection between NFT owners and image usage/ownership.

Why tf is this downvoted?

Because it's wrong. You've already "stolen" the image as soon as it loads on your monitor. Using a snipping tool to save the image as a separate .jpg or whatever doesn't make a difference. What you do with the image could potentially be problematic if you use it for monetization or libelous purposes, but simply copying it and using it as an avatar isn't illegal.

"could you be arrested if you start distributing this?"

Learn to read

I'm not sure what's confusing you, so I'll try and break it down better.

1) You asked why the comment above yours was being downvoted. It's being downvoted because it's wrong.

2) Why is it wrong? The parent comment asked two questions:

Q1: Is this considered stealing?

A1: No, it is not stealing because the image was already, implicitly given away for free the moment they put it up on a publicly available website. Even without all the snipping tool shenanigans, a copy of the image is already stored on your computer the moment it loads in your web browser. If you can see it, you've already "stolen" it. That's just how computers work. As long as you didn't actually hack a network to grab an asset you would otherwise not have authorization to, you're good.

Q2: Could you be arrested if you start distributing this?

A2: That's a bit more nuanced, but for the average Redditor sharing content, no, you're not going to be arrested for that. Even if you wanted to argue that it's in violation of the copyright holder's rights to control distribution, that's a civil matter, not a criminal one. Now, if you use that image for commercial purposes such as using it as part of a marketing campaign or directly selling it or if you used it in a way that hurts someone's image such as using their portrait as a stand-in for a child molester, then yeah, you could very well get in trouble for that. Even then, if we're really being pedantic, whether you'd get arrested for it depends on how severe the violation was as there's different thresholds for whether it rises to the level of misdemeanor or felony.

You just restated the same thing as the comment that was downvoted

I think everyone in this sub may be detatched from reality, lol.

Maybe if you use or sell them for profit... But the images are public by design. The NFT you buy is not actually the image, it's a link to the image. It's not about the image, it's about letting people know that you "own" the image ... whatever that means since you don't actually own the rights to the image.

Tbh I think it's money laundering (at least that's what I tell myself so I can sleep at night)

These are fucking terrible

It’s one thing if it’s some crazy detailed artwork. To sell 16 bit pixel art for > $100 is insanity.

shits procedurally generated and people pay crazy money for it thinking they can sell it for higher

Interesting, I thought it was just one artist creating these but I can see why procedural generation makes this a battle of who can outbid the bigger fool.

Look up "Lazy Lion NFTs" for the worst of the fucking worst my dude. It's insane how much people spend for these D- grade furry jpegs

As a furry we don't associate with these people, furry art actually takes skill to create lmao

And money from what I've heard

money to create?? I mean sure equipment isnt free but, aside from that it doesnt cost money to make the art lol

Ah i was talking about the pricing

well yeah, all art costs money to acquire, generally

Favorite is nouns.wtf. They go for insane amounts

bruh there's mass produced etherum artwork from blender roockies 💀💀💀💀

You have two extra zeroes in your number, I noticed. Should read "$1" methinks.

If I could earn 200 dollars from only using 10 minutes in paint, I would totally do it. Why would anyone pay that much anyways?

most NFTs i've seen look like that.

Fucking horrible pictures for SALE.

Goddammit.

“I’m pulling a heist, But I need a team”

You son of a bitch I’m in

We need a subreddit

We will call it NFT heist, It’s literally just a subreddit where you post NFTs you screenshotted without paying.

It’ll serve as a big “Fuck you” to NFT artists

rEdDit do yOur ThIng

What is NFT?

Basically a piece of data that you own personally. They use blockchains (whatever the fuck that is, like an online ledger I think) as basically a certificate that you own that piece of data, similar to cryptocurrency but unlike crypto it's fucking useless because it isn't interchangeable.

SO what? Rare Pepes?

Using NFTs for rare Pepes would actually be so much funnier and overall better than how they're being used now

Imagine getting a fucking monkey image instead of a pepe shitting on a wojak.. like bruh

NFT and rare Pepes are same thing, only difference is that NFT are done unironically

You're a genius

Useless digital estate that has no real value and can be marketed for a price no one will realistically buy. or you know, money laundering possibly.

Criminals and the rich already use modern art for money laundering and tax evasion respectively. It's no wonder it has become digital now.

Definitely money laundering and/or tax evasion.

I've read so many paragraphs explaining what NFTs are and i still don't know what the fuck it is.

They’re trading cards. You don’t actually own the content, it’s materially worthless, and it’s value is entirely derived from what someone else is willing to pay for it.

If you own a Babe Ruth baseball card, you don’t own the image or anything else depicted on it, it’s made out of paper and ink, and it’s worthless unless someone wants to buy it.

An NFT of an artwork is the same. You don’t own the artwork as an intellectual property or as a copyright. You provably own a specific and unique instance of the artwork. It’s made out of nothing. If no one is willing to buy it, it’s worthless.

IMO, NFTs are stupid as hell. Hats in tf2 are essentially the same, but at least you can play a game with them.

How is this different from artwork, though? I bet someone could make an exact replica of the Mona Lisa but it wouldn't be worth anywhere near as much as the original.

Now you just own the "original license" to some artwork or meme sold to you by the creator. It's almost as if people place value on the concept of having the original version of something as opposed to a copy.

It is very much different. Taking you're Mona Lisa example, say I want to have the Mona Lisa in my dining room because it'd look nice. Now should I buy the actual artwork that's worth likely trillions or should I just get a replica for practically nothing at the local flee market that looks basically the same.

Sure I'd get the bragging rights, by owning the Nft of like nyan cat or something, but what the fuck is the point when nobody cares and anyone can just save a pic of it

Nfts weren't even a concept until 2015. It was invented by the blokes at Etheruem to make more money because that's basically what the current system is. Parasitising everything to squeeze every broken dinar out of it.

the only difference is that making perfect copy of mona lisa would take insane amout of skill

meanwhile digital image can just be screenshooted or copied with right click easily

also proving which copy is the "geniue" one is easier with digital, the nft tag cant be faked and can be easily checked, meanwhile a perfect reproduction of some painting would be almost impossible to distingusih without eye of some very skilled expert or destructive research (gathering a sample and carbon dating it for example)

It’s a digital receipt that says you own a copy of a particular file. It’s like going to Best Buy and buying a receipt for $599 that says you own a PlayStation 5 without actually owning the PlayStation 5.

It’s the height of internet stupidity.

Jokes on you I just bought this comment from Reddit

I screenshotted your comment, I’ll delete the screenshot for $1,000,000

You go first I don’t believe you’ll delete unless I see it

Ever heard of “buying” a star? Basically that, but for these ugly ass pictures.

Payday 3 leak

Aw hell yea cant wait for the mission where you eskape death row for screenshoting an nft

Those pics go so hard

just kidding they're fucking ugly.

character development

11.75$ to screenshot

i ain't paying

Whadayagonnado aboutit

That's too cheap for a scam. NFTs are more like pay 400 dollars to even consider buying it

wtf even are ntfs. ik the abbreviation but why does it exist. its a picture lmao

I think the idea is that through blockchain, like crypto, it’s very easy to verify who owns exactly what. Supporters position it like owning art, you have the original, copies might look the same but are worth less. It’s really fucking stupid.

exactly. theres really no point

It's fiat currency with more steps.

Basically a traceable digital receipt, but people are going insane for it because most people seem to have no idea what they are and a lot of people are afraid it's the next Bitcoin and they'll lose out. It's all pants on head retarded.

It's basically verifiable digital good. It actually has some really interesting uses but so far just been used for random images which is understandable since it's so new.

what they meant to say is “I own this jpeg I bought it for $5000 you can copy and paste it but this little piece of text still says I own it”

ntfs is the file system used by windows

It's basically a receipt saying you own a piece of digital media. Ownership of digital stuff is weird because you can just save images so imo the current NFT art is incredibly stupid but there may be a more useful market. For example I've heard rumor GameStop is working on a digital store, so you could sell your "used" digital game licenses like you could a physical copy. I could see that type of use for games and music being a long term place for them, but idk. Time will tell.

You think it's funny to take screenshots of people's NFTs, huh? Property theft is a joke to you? I'll have you know that the blockchain doesn't lie. I own it. Even if you save it, it's my property. You are mad that you don't own the art that I own.

Delete that screenshot.

you wouldn't screenshot a car

It's called a heist for a reason 🗿

I get the reference lmao

Communism: this pic goes hard: if you screenshot more than once, you go to gulag

that's what happens to hoarders, do you really need those 915.543 screenshots?

Could you bait a loser to send you the thing they get for their nfts and then sell to another loser

Can you believe some of these go more than an original Bob Ross or an Van Gogh painting?

ELI5 what even are those?

png worth many moners, everyone can download 'em but there's an unnecessarily complex crypto-like system that "proves" it belongs to you. Unlike crypto though they can't be properly traded and for some reason almost everyone who owns one acts like a pot-powered chimpanzee that was trained to join the marines in the defunct braincels subreddit.

I think

So it's like buying a license to a stock photo but these nfts are ugly as shit and completely useless?

Said it before and I’ll fucking say it again.

Fursona > NFT

Pros: Free to make, won’t look nearly as ugly as RNG NFT Definitively yours, art/character theft is taken fairly seriously in the furry community You can actually do shit with the character, not just pass them around. adoptables exist they don’t require burning down a fucking rainforest you can do shit with it. who's joe

imma live in a NFT

Except you can’t live in the NFT, but you can live in a house lol.

NFTs are nothing more than unique, secure digital trading cards. People have given them all of their value with their incessant speculation.

for anyone reading this late confused about this guy's answers, the guy defending NFTs edited the comments so everyone else would look dumb

Bruh wtf lol

Thanks for telling me, this is rich, I wouldn’t have come back if nobody had said anything.

that can't be true, because /r/gayspiderbrothel is the zenith of human intelligence

r/dragonsfuckingcars is actually the smartest place on reddit but that's besides the point because we're both in this subreddit

i don't wanna live in a house, i wanna live in a NFT

cringe

But you get to do everything you could otherwise do with an NFT with just a copy of it besides sale. The post is probably a commentary on NFTs as a concept, not that you can actually copy it and “steal” it. I feel like you’re getting whooshed to that concept.

For a large portion of houses, they’re owned by the banks. That’s what mortgage is, people paying the bank to live in the house.

Literally what's the point of paying for a png that everyone else can use just to flex it was worth $12000. Yeah, wanting to waste money on an ugly drawing of a chimp isn't a reddit moment, it's a retard moment. I'd understand if you could at least trade/sell them with normal people like sport cards or genuine collectables but this is like selling chunks of the moon.

It's also, like, completely unrelated to houses, because those are physical objects that are bought to be used and have only one copy to own. There's no blockchains involved in owning a house, no one else can copy your house for free using it as much as you and you can actually sell it to functioning human beings.

because you're not buying a 'PNG', you're buying a NFT.

learn the differences, then ask; "why do people collect things"

>why do people collect things

Because they can own and trade exclusive, unique versions of collectable items. You know how the more rare, sometimes one of a kind pieces are worth the most? If it's easy to get it's not worth collecting as much. Now imagine there's an item, that not only is already uninteresting, unappealing and irrelevant (like this, for example), it's also extremely easy to get a copy of for free, and there's an extremely low chance you'll ever find anyone who will buy it from you.

I wouldn't call that a good collectable, or a good inversion to begin with. I'd say it's like rich folks who buy white canvas with bananas taped to them. We all know they don't actually think it's art, we all know it's shitty, and almost all of us suspect that they're probably doing it to launder money or avoid taxes somehow. Because being serious, who tf would want a white wall with a banana taped to it that's worth thousands of dollars. No one, it's either shady dudes or retards.

If you show the banana to someone who knows art, they'll give you a similar answer to the one you'd get if you showed a collector an NFT. They won't understand why it has any value at all, will let you know they wouldn't pay for it and mostly go on with their lives, because to each their own.

I mean, who am I to stop you from buying NFTs? Go ahead, do it, it's your money and your choice. God knows I've wasted money on dumber stuff, and I expect people to tell me how dumb it is whitout pretending it's actually a smart investment. Buy chunks of the moon and I'd treat you like you bought chunks of the moon.

Also hey, I wrote the entire bible right there, sorry for the long comment chump, I like wasting my free time. Pretty sad, I know, kinda like investing in peter griffin pixel art. Then again, to each it's own retardness.

subjective view on NFTs, not understanding block-chain

sorry, that aint it

That is exactly what I do and it works, I now own 30 different houses that I didn’t pay penny for and it even comes with some new friends inside!

yeah, that's about how uninformed people view NFTs lol

that's cringe.

Only a person with a low IQ can’t understand that’s not what I said. Taking a picture or a “screenshot” of something isn’t the same as owning the thing you took a picture of and doesn’t affect it’s value in any way.

I understood your sentence. The only problem is that, nobody wants to buy your shitty monkey NFTS.They have no artistic value.

A lesson on what real art is from /u/Yener07, brought to you by /r/gayspiderbrothel.

Reliable, expert, opinions on what is and isn’t art come from the least expected places.

People who hate NFT'S don't understand NFT's. Each NFT is digitally signed on the blockchain. It's like the Mona Lisa or a Picasso, you could take a picture of it it or reprint it but it doesn't not make it valuable because you reproduced it or downloaded it. Many think NFTs are scam, this is a lie. Those who don't understand get scammed. This would be the equivalent of trying to purchase a forged painting and not getting an appraiser or an expert to take a look at it. Obviously there are many scammers out there but in general the NFT space has the most caring friendly people out there.

Did you just compare the mona fuckin lisa to thousands of ugly monkeys

Clearly I did not. I was simply stating that the art form in regards to valuation is the same as all physical art forms. Let me ask you this... What makes art valuable? BAYC has already sold around 960, 064, 348.43 USD on their project.

Just because you don't understand the technology or the art doesn't mean someone else doesn't. Your taste is not the same as someone else's. Everyone is different and everyone has their own perspective and preferences on art.

That is what makes art so fun.

NFT guys will pay thousands of dollars for a picture of a monkey but won't buy a one dollar stick of deodorant

I can clearly see that you're uneducated about NFT's and it's evident that you are blind to the demographic type in the NFT space.

It's not that I'm blind, its just that I don't care about your shitty crypto

But these NFTs don’t have any artistic value so they aren’t inherently worthless anyway, except that people want them as investments.

Comparing them to other art is a bad parallel. They are more like a stock, or any other commodity whose value is not linked to the object itself.

$960, 064, 348.43 is the current artistic value. The same argument could be used on anything. Humans are the ones who choose what's of value and what's not.

That’s it’s monetary value. And yes, that’s my whole point. That the value is arbitrary and not inherent. But this NFT’s value is financial and not artistic to anyone who is interested in owning or trading it.

I mean that's your opinion. That's the beauty about art, it's subjective. While I agree that certain mediums of NFTs and drawing are not art in the classic medium... And yes some projects look like they been drawn by someone's foot... My whole point of view was that their is some great artwork out there and that NFT's get a bad name due to the non artists that are just out there trying to make a quick buck versus actually trying to make art. The technology is also new so many people are still trying to figure it out.

I hate them because the art is flicking shit. It all feels like the type of thing you’d find on some pretentious 16 year old’s Deviantart page.

Some are, I agree. But that's the great thing about art. Everyone has their own perspective of it. What you may not like.... Someone else may love and vice versa. That's what makes everyone unique and beautiful.

Fuck you.

The fact of the matter is that you're all uneducated about NFT's. You don't understand them and it's very apparent in your hostile responses. To each their own.
