This gave me some strong Stargate memories. thanks :)

Look at the FarGate!

Goes far, get it? We can give it a Mohawk and a wheelchair if you need help.

Get to tha Chappa'ai

SG-1 theme intensifies

Peter F. Hamilton would drive a train right through that.

it opens directly on the sun's surface and drives a crapton of turbines that directly power pretty much everyone in the galaxy

I just started one of his books for the first time.

Wouldn't the cool air be raging through?

Maybe it has a type of shield that maintains a “surface tension” like effect separating both sides. Atmosphere lock etc

I thought the same thing. The pressure differential would turn the gate into a raging vortex while the rapid mixing of cool moist air and warm dry air would create dark, heavy clouds and violent thunderstorms. Not exactly the peaceful gateway we see here.

Yes and that deer is going to croak shortly after stepping into that 115 degree heat.

Chevron one is locked in place.

No, chevron 1 in ENCODED only 7 is locked, or 8 if going to another galaxy

Chevron 1, lit up

Chevron 7, also lit up

Lmao, episode 200 is crazy

Only in the series. The movie dialing sequence was different

I'll give you that. But don't they say holding then locked?

Displacement gate. Just call it a Stargate

Yep, not fooling anyone.

I don't see any stars.

I see at least one star light, aka day light

No sun in the picture, you don't even know it's day light or not. Could just be a painted background.

that deer will get a severe headache and extreme vomiting and physical discomfort due to the sudden temperature change

Are you speaking from experience? Or is it deer specific?

Seems like humans don’t have this problem. Going from the sauna into an ice bath doesn’t make you vomit.

Speaking from experience. Searing hot summer in kerala (South India) and me and my mother were headed to a library. The air conditioning was so cold inside we both got a massive headache the moment we entered. Physical discomfort and nausea and vomiting as well. Luckily i didnt hurl on the library floor but got the hell out of there as fast as i could.

though i should correct myself, its nausea not vomiting. Muscle spasms may happen as well if its from cold to hot. Its even worse for people prone to migraines.

Thats sounds unpleasant.

Hop in the Puddle Jumper

Shut the door, you are letting all of the cold air out.

i can't imagine this would be too great for the climate of either place. hopefully they have some kind of heat forcefield

Now that's cool.

I'd like to see a version in a forest, where the portal looks "natural" after being overgrown with vines and plant life.

Anyone know how this would have been drawn? On a digital tablet I assume?

The artist only says he used Photoshop for this image.

Make it spin!

Crappy offbrand Stargate!

Actually two-way access and visibility would be an improvement over the stargate

Narnia Evolution

Indeed.

ok there's one thing wrong here. The wind going through that hole would be like a hurricane. Just think of the pressure difference!!!

Stargate don't let entities not actively trying to go through pass through. So water and air don't move through, but radio waves, planes, people, etc will

Thanks. Good resolution.

I guess it's a pretty common science fiction trope.

Oh dear, it’s not a good idea to step through that.

Man I sure do love displacement lol

This new MALP design is perfectly camouflaged

Reading a book (well listening to an audio book) called Outland by Dennis Taylor, and this gate reminds me of the device that is an important part of the book/story.
