Why some water faucets are made so short is beyond me. I once lived at a place with such a faucet and it felt like my hands were never clean from the unavoidable bowl touching. Yuck.
I used to live in an apartment where not only did I have this problem, but also the ol’ Here’s A Separate Faucet Just for Water You Could Make Ramen With Conundrum. It was really fun in the winter to try to decide if I wanted to wash my hands with glacial runoff or the contents of my radiator after my morning dump. Most of the time I just went into the kitchen.
Originally they were meant to make it easier to shave at the sink with a more open basin. But yeah, worse for everything else. I think now it’s just cheapness
