Would fuck it up if someone played this at their DJ set.
Would fuck it up if someone played this at their DJ set.
I had no idea that the fucking Tubthumping band was so based.
They're unfathomably based. The band was formed by a bunch of squatters living together. One of them legally changed her name to Alice Nutter. They were railing against homophobia in huge concerts in the early 90s. They recorded a performance of an 1800s song venerating Ned Ludd They recorded songs originally sung by the Diggers. They recorded Bella Ciao. They have a song called "British Colonialism and the BBC."
They were always the band that wrote that one annoying song to me. And then I heard the other things they did and holy fuck they're good
I'd wear a
CHUMBAWAMBA - UNFATHOMABLY BASED
t-shirt.
Thatās interesting. I actually have their CD with Tubthumping on it. My impression of them, and I havenāt listened to it in years, was the first three songs were all good and the rest of the CD sucked. But I actually like the type of music/melody that you hear on the link above, so maybe thereās more to the band.
They were around for about 15 years before that album, and were around for another 15 years after, and they were regularly putting out albums the whole time, and the albums vary in style a lot.
Definitely worth looking through their discography.
Chumbawamba is one of my favorite bands of all time. Their harmonies are absolutely unparalleled.
They have a whole album of remastered English Rebel Songs from 1400s-1900s.
They cover all sorts of genres ranging from hard punk to soft acoustic harmonies.
They have hard hitting songs, then goofy songs about torturing James Hetfield by playing Chumbawamba over loudspeakers.
They are insanely talented and don't get anywhere near the credit they deserve. If you go through their music I guarantee there's at least 1 song for everybody.
I personally recommend literally anything from their last three albums, but there is gold in every album they put out. If you like softer harmonies their later stuff is the way to go, but if you like hard punk their earlier stuff is where it's at.
Never thought I'd see the day someone says Chumbawumba is (one of) their favorite band (s). No disrespect, I actually want to dive into more of their stuff now.
Okay I gotta ask, what do you think of Tubthumping? Do you hate it? Or is it a favorite song?
Just don't look at the original album cover for Anarchy

Almost better, the drop goes right into God Save the Queen š
If you're listening to the radio and God Save the Queen starts playing you know some serious shit has gone down
Hearing the national anthem at an unexpected time is always unnerving. Always reminds me of this creepy-ass video
Love me some local 58
Woof. That was unsettling.
The channel has a bunch more unsettling videos all in the same āuniverseā if you want more
For more āfunā check out Gemini Home Entertainment, itās the same kind of āentertainment.ā
Aww yeah love contingency.
Especially if you live outside the UK.
"Oh no... they're back"
My dumb American is showing. For a hot second I thought they were playing ["My Country 'Tis of Thee"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_(My_Country,_%27Tis_of_Thee)) which was the American national anthem before we got The Star-Spangled Banner.
I was very confused until I realized how stupid that was. I also learned that apparently American public schooling has drilled that tune into my head as an American song and not a British song.
Wait until you learn that "The Graduation March" is actually Land Of Hope And Glory.
And their current anthem used the tune from a drinking song
To be honest I can respect that
Graduation march?
You mean Macho Man's entrance song.
You're not stupid you were just never taught that. We probably bastardized that song as a fuck you to GB, and to distance our citizens from them
[deleted]
littleKuriboh?
Yuh, this took me way back
That last slide is hilarious to read on 16th of August, 2021
Itās also the anthem of the Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen
Edit: Full version is here and is much better, if ya donāt mind Vimeo.
Wait until you learn baseball was invented in the UK as well
It's also the national anthem of Liechtenstein
Itās the royal anthem of Norway too. Although we use another one as national anthem.
There's a riff that sounds very similar, and you would be forgiven for the mistake.
Also, the version you heard in school was written (lyrics) by an American, about America. It's not a "dumb American" thing to think that it's an American song since the version you remember is an American song.
It's literally the same song just with different words.
a riff
The music of the star spangled anthem is also British, originally a song about drinking beer and banging hoors
Yeah we said get out and then copped their shit and made it our own lol
If the timestamp doesn't work, just scrub to 1m42s or click on the BBC Radio 1 Dance chapter in the video.
wait, they hit the announcement with a fadeout? Rude
Shout-out to his family
I have a dream
... that the only stage we put royals on is a scaffold.
I actually cant tell if this is real or satire
It's edited but the real version is just as funny imo
What the hell are the kids calling satire these days? Any kind of edited content?
This comment is satirical
You forgot to put /s otherwise no one will know you're being satirical here
Yeah this shit drives me crazy too. If itās not making some kind of criticism of society, itās not satire. Though, if somebody said this was satire because itās exaggerating the brevity of the announcement of a public figureās death, thereby critiquing the callous nature of announcements like this, I donāt think I could say theyāre wrong.
Real Edinbruh moment.
Anyone got the song name? It's pretty good
The one in your edit is nice as well, but this one is 'We do what we want' by Alan Fitzpatrick
That's before the announcement, but it sounds like the drop is from Brian's
Yeah you're right. I jumped the gun on my reaction. Didn't wait for after the drop
I'd actually forgotten he had died.
Since we're on the subject, here's comedian Lewis Spears finding out that Phillip died in the middle of a set, and then using the death to come up with more jokes. You'll find zero mourning from the crowd, there.
That's a crazy coincidence
I think foreign countries are the only people who give a shit about the royal family lol
This is edited though, and didn't actually happen like this
but it should have.
Real crab rave vibes

But you said don't be rude to the dead.
[deleted]
Wrong analogy
"don't be rude to dead animals"
"okay I'll remember not to be rude towards the wild dog that killed my sister"
Instead of asking others to use common sense, learn to better communicate.
Logic isn't your strong suit, eh? The prince was a cunt, so if disliking a person, even majorly like with the Hitler example, is good enough for trashing the dude through the grave, then what's the problem?
Ah yes, the price dying is just like Hitler dying. I am very intelligent
The royal family supported the nazis.
Prince Philip literally fought the nazis in ww2
Reluctantly. I can sense the historical illiteracy here. It's just oozing from you.
The ruling classes of most of the allied powers quite liked Hitler, and quite liked what he was doing in the region. It was only when they realized they couldn't really control him that they finally got on board with doing something about him.
Here are the people you're defending. Total antifascists lmao
Also, the idea that any of these parasites have ever taken up a real combat role is insulting. They've pretended to be involved around the edges for propaganda purposes. Nothing more, ever.
How does saying "you're wrong about x" automatically become "you're defending this person? Why would I feel the need to defend a dead guy to begin with? Also this has to be the shittiest low quality image on the internet
Get fucked you moron.
Prince Philip had a fucking fantastic military record and is mentioned in dispatches for bravery fighting against the Nazis. You obviously don't know what you're talking about.
Your second paragraph is so wrong it's obvious.
No, they're not wrong. Also, you get fucked.
Disappointing, but sadly not surprising, that your comments (the only ones based on actual history) are relentlessly downvoted. Its simply wrong to claim Prince Philip 'fought the nazis', but little englanders keep recycling it anyway.
Edit: I bet whoever's downvoted me is gonna explain with quotations and provenance, exactly why I'm wrong. Or, you know, do what every reactionary on reddit does: make a simplistic argument, get upvoted and leave it there.
How do you know that the salute wasn't made in jest? Wasn't that extremely common back then?
I don't understand why this constantly gets perpetuated. It's not true.
I don't understand why this is downvoted. Its true.
Edit: lol downvote all you want. Doesn't change reality.
Oh no, someone said something mean about some rich and powerful dick who died of old age. How terrible.
Who gives a shit if they're rich or powerful. Saying "Rest in piss, you old parasite" is a jackass move.
Nope, not when said rich and powerful person only made the world a worse place during their life time.
how did prince philip make the world worse? Didn't he have a bunch of charities, help fund a bunch of stuff related to environmentalism, and started the global youth achievement awards initiative which people from all over the globe, especially in the 3rd world, have praised him for?
By being a racist cunt, continuing to fuel British colonial and imperialistic culture. He looked down upon all non western countries.
And whatever money he gave to charity is nothing compared to all the wealth he stole every year form British citizens. Sure, if they gave 90% of their money to charity, we can talk, but right now they sit upon gold thrones while exploiting the poor.
He is a dying breed of monarchy, of the old ways of Europe. Until monarchy is fully gone is when the dark ages will finally be past us
By being a racist cunt
i think his racist comments are easily outweighed by the good he did
continuing to fuel British colonial and imperialistic culture
How did he "fuel colonial and imperialistic culture"?
He looked down upon all non western countries.
what? When did he say that?
And whatever money he gave to charity is nothing compared to all the wealth he stole every year form British citizens
About 70% of brits support the monarchy, and they happen to live in a democracy where the majority decides where their taxes should go, so the word "stealing" makes no sense here.
while exploiting the poor
how has philip exploited the poor?
i think his racist comments are easily outweighed by the good he did
No, because it isn't just comments. It's maintaining the colonial and imperial culture that the entire world hates the UK for.
How did he "fuel colonial and imperialistic culture"?
By being a royal with too much power and wealth who didn't want to let go of the past and still think England should own half the globe.
what? When did he say that?
Anytime he visits an African or Asian nation he insults their art, calls it 4th grade art class stuff his daughter would make. He insults their culture. He is just as racist as someone who haven't traveled outside a white trailer park, yet he is highly educated and has no excuse. The fact he still chose to be a racist asshole shows how horrible of a person he is..
About 70% of brits support the monarchy, and they happen to live in a democracy where the majority decides where their taxes should go, so the word "stealing" makes no sense here.
Oh god helps of all if the population is that delusional.
Monarchy is anti democratic by nature. No one elects the kings or queens. And even worse, as recent reports shows, the queen has power and has affected laws. She goes against the parliamentary system, so your monarchy is even more fucked than other monarchies in Europe.
And back when you raped half the globe, did Egyptians have any democratic power? Did Indians? If you actually allowed all the citizens you owned to vote back then, the monarchy would have been destroyed decades ago.
how has philip exploited the poor?
By being a royal born with a gold spoon in his butt, never having to work a day of his life and being fed millions, while homelessness and poverty is ever increasing
and still think England should own half the globe.
When has he said this?
Anytime he visits an African or Asian nation he insults their art, calls it 4th grade art class stuff his daughter would make
There's literally only one single quote where he's called an Ethiopian art exhibition alike something that his daughter would make in art classes. And yeah, that's obviously something wrong to say, but that quote doesn't mean he looks down on all non western countries.
Monarchy is anti democratic by nature. No one elects the kings or queens
No, but the population elects ministers who decide whether to keep funding the monarchy. Therefore i still don't see the argument for theft here. Unless you're one of those people who believe taxation is theft as well.
By being a royal born with a gold spoon in his butt, never having to work a day of his life and being fed millions, while homelessness and poverty is ever increasing
[Seems poverty in the UK is not any worse than it was 20 years ago] (https://www.jrf.org.uk/sites/default/files/jrf/files-research/36a._poverty_rates_in_england_wales_scotland_and_northern_ireland_2.png)
Also, i don't see how he is exploiting poor people by having his life paid by the state. Are people on social welfare exploiting poor people as well by having their lives paid for by the state?
[deleted]
This is a purely aesthetic argument you're making. If it feels like weird moves to you, then it's weird moves to you, but you can't be surprised when your aesthetic argument makes you look like a tool to people with pragmatic reasoning. He's dead now, it's not like he can hear us. It might be better if he could.
Why?
They can't fight back? But to me that seems like the perfect time to criticize the co-owner of several countries.
So by your logic I shouldnāt talk shit about hitler because heās dead?
Wtf dude have some respect jeez
^^/s in case necessary
Honestly though, this line of thinking is a bit outdated in my opinion. Being dead doesn't make you a good person, and everything you do still happened when you're dead. Sure, they have no recourse, but when their deeds are publicly documented, I don't see the benefit of turning a blind eye to misdeeds.
No need to be rude to the rude, deadass
[deleted]
Insulting someone for insulting someone else. Lol, you're the one that makes no sense. If you wanna play angel, at least do it well, hypocrite.
[deleted]
So was he able to talk back, back when he was alive?
Probably not because he never heard of you, what is the difference now?
It surprisingly does
Nou
Kings and royalty have no place in the 21st century, and they have even less rights to have to be plastered all over TV and radio when they die. We don't care.
