Words of advice for all of us

A modern take on "lurk more"

The only thing necessary for the triumph of reactionary dumbasses is for good men to lurk.

I'm ignorant, is there a name for that kind of guitar style? Seems to be very common for music set in western/wild west America.

Blues or delta blues, something like this

That was really cool and all but what kind of an abomination of a guitar is that sitting on the far right?

looks like a regular 8-string guitar with a weirdly shaped body?

a weirdly shaped body

title of your sex tape

the specific style for the guitar is "slide guitar" and involves using a solid, usually metal or plastic, "slider" which goes around one of your fingers which you then press against the strings while you strum.

This feels so familiar, like something I would have heard waay before Bastion came out

I heard Bastion is a great game too

Bastion's music (at least partially, and definitely not the lyrics) is made out of stock music samples that come with the software it was made in. So every once in a while you're bound to find other songs with common elements.

For instance, here's one off the top of my head that came out a few years after it.

i think Borderlands uses it as well. that came out a couple years before Bastion? the earliest i can think of is Cowboy Bebop though. that was 98.

definitely reminds me of Borderlands desert themes as well, spot on!

There's also slide guitars that are more like a keyboard than a guitar. Usually they're only played in southern churches but Robert Randolph uses one in his music.

Other people have already answered your question, but if you want some good examples of slide guitar players to check out:

Duane Allman (of The Allman Brothers): Possibly the slide guitar GOAT

Derek Trucks: Probably the best modern slide guitar player

Muddy Waters: Chicago blues legend

Robert Johnson: Delta blues legend (supposed to have made a deal with the devil to get good at guitar)

Ry Cooder: Well known session guitarist for the likes of the rolling stones and Neil young.

Blind Willie Johnson: Fantastic slide guitarist who didn't become well known until long after his death

There are plenty more, of course, but those are some good ones.

Add David Gilmour to that list: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9ohBMozCzI

Steve Blum is legendary.

That’s not Steve Blum, the owner of that channel is a voice actor and uses the channel and his VA skills to non-stop shitpost. Fantastic impression tho.

Wow, that's wild. I thought someone just paid Blum for a cameo or something.

I need to give Cowboy Bebop another shot (Yes, I know the OP is a parody). I dropped it after 19 episodes, since I was burnt out on anime at the time (I was between jobs in 2016 and watched like 80 series), but I really love the 90s anime aesthetic.

Does anybody know any good 90s anime? I've seen Golden Boy, Great Teacher Onizuka, Initial D, Berserk (1997), Evangelion, and Trigun. I know about Ghost in the Shell, but I haven't watched it yet since I have a hard time paying attention to movies these days. I prefer TV series where I can dip after 30 minutes if I feel like it.

Trigun.

Initial D, Berserk (1997), Evangelion, and Trigun.

So good that he should watch it again.

You heard me.

I rewatch it every few years. Should read it too, since the manga goes further.

Revolutionary Girl Utena is another excellent one

Does anybody know any good 90s anime?

I imagine you're gonna get a huge range of what constitutes "good," and from me you're gonna get a broad interpretation of what constitutes the "90s" lol.

Series are bolded, movies are italicized.

"Good" from a critically defensible perspective:

  • Finish watching Bebop. It's the best anime I've ever seen.
  • Samurai Champloo (actually from 2005, but another Shinichiro Watanabe show that I'd say is a bit lighter and more accessible than Bebop, but still has that great character building and tons of cool Japanese historical context)
  • Hellsing (OVAs are highly regarded but hard to find or know what you're watching so YMMV)
  • JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (OVA -- definitely a weird show but it's made by Satoshi Kon and very highly regarded)
  • Slam Dunk (personally haven't seen it yet but it's on basically every list of best 90s animes)
  • Akira (TRAILER -- 1988 and you've probably seen it but it's required viewing)
  • Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door (TRAILER -- aka Cowboy Bebop: The Movie -- watch it between episodes 22 and 23 for chronological continuity if you think that would be cool, especially if you don't know how the show ends)
  • Ninja Scroll (TRAILER -- the film is a masterpiece -- can't speak for the series)
  • Spriggan (TRAILER -- fucking incredible, unique film with a short runtime that will stick with you for a while)
  • Vampire Hunter: D (TRAILER-- if you can find it and not sure if the "Bloodlust" version is much different -- solid movie)
  • Samurai X (TRAILER-- Trust and Betrayal and Reflections)
  • Perfect Blue (TRAILER -- probably Satoshi's most respected film -- not my personal fave but it is excellent)
  • Paprika (TRAILER-- more Satoshi Kon -- technically 2006 but have to mention it because it's some of the coolest animation you'll ever seen and has a great story as well)
  • Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade (TRAILER -- I actually had a hard time sticking with it but it was ultimately worthwhile)
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (TRAILER) and Mobile Suit Gundam: Endless Waltz (TRAILER)
  • Obligatory mention of the entire Studio Ghibli catalogue, especially Princess Monoke (1997) and Spirited Away (2001), among many others
  • I know you've seen Evangelion and Trigun, but have you seen NGE: Death and Rebirth (TRAILER), NGE: The End of Evangelion (TRAILER), and Trigun: Badlands Rumble (TRAILER)?

"Good" if you like easily consumable shows without a ton of complexity or depth:

  • Yu Yu Hakasho (very much like DBZ in spirit -- Yusuke and friends fight increasingly scary and powerful bad guys, including a tournament of bag guys, and keep getting more powerful themselves)
  • Outlaw Star (a lesser, hornier Cowboy Bebop)
  • Inuyasha (2001 but close enough right?)
  • Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X protag but goofier and lighter -- very fun show with some memorably heavier moments)
  • Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (arguably could be included in the former list)
  • Escaflowne (haven't seen it in years but I remember enjoying it)
  • Many of the DBZ movies are quite good, especially Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku (TRAILER)

Edit: many edits ongoing to add shows and trailers and stuff

Motherfucker has that ready.

And not even a mention of GITS. Appalling.

  • Blue Submarine No. 6
  • Yu Yu Hakusho
  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Sailor Moon

Thanks, I've never heard of Blue Submarine No. 6.

I've seen Dragon Ball, but I count that as an 80s show, so I didn't mention it. Yu Yu Hakusho and Sailor Moon are good recs, though. I've seen the dubs, but a lot of "mainstream" anime in the 90s censored stuff (like the lesbians in Sailor Moon), so I'll have to check out the subs.

Enjoy.

Also Dragon Ball Z is different from Dragon Ball.

Yeah, I've seen them all. Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super. Fell off of Dragon Ball GT during the first arc, though, since it sucks. GT isn't canon anyway.

Blue Submarine No. 6

I like that this was mentioned. Definitely one of my favourite back in the days.

Not 90s but can't go wrong with Cowboy Bebop

I feel this way about anime

Hey champ, that’s really interesting. Next time, keep it to yourself.

[removed]

I don't think I have any friends who aren't into anime. This is a shit tier troll

i love when the entire script of the video is in the title

Definitely makes it easy to find

Well, the first half

they're talking about the title on youtube

A thousand apologises

That's too many apologies

he looks like katee sackhoff

One of the few consistently funny TikTok accounts

His final message. Goodbye.

What is Meteos doing here?

Oh boy, keeping that one on speed dial.

I can't be the only one who thought this was some old, obscure video of Timothy Olyphant

The nicest, NICEST way to say "I didn't want to hear that."
