Why do people hate it?
Well, this is a vast understatement, but one reason is because they are super fickle with what the allow and don't allow, and what they classify different items or parts as. For example, currently just a standalone trigger group (a trigger, its spring, blah blah blah) is classified as a firearm if it is put into anything vaguely gun sized and shaped (they were super unclear about it, so they could decide to say that something is illegal without warning). Look up Brandon Herrera's (AKGuy on YouTube) recent review of it for some more explanation.
But as I said, this is just one of many reasons.
