You are incredible, love your work š
Thank you, I“m flattered :)
The Louvre wants your location
Non merci.
Nice ghetto gold
And he has the dopest surname
Where were you 15 minutes before you started this painting? French police would like to know. Looks great by the way!
Artist: RubƩn Megido.
I just wanted to put your name up higher.
Edit the comment I'm replying to with your name so people see it at the top of the comments section!
My name is RubƩn Megido.
No no no you should EDIT your OTHER comment. Scroll up to your comment which says this:
"Yes, it“s mine. Reddit has been acting a bit weird this morning :) "
EDIT that comment and add in:
"EDIT: My name is RubƩn Megido. "
Because then everyone at the TOP of the comments will see your name immediately! :)
I see now, thanks! Still trying to get used to Reddit :)
Reddit is a fickle beast. I hardly understand it. Or because I post in wrong sections too much.

Wow. Dumb people are so angry.
Here's a poor man's gold for you š„
I appreciate this. Being that it wasnāt a malicious act, like terrorism, and no one was hurt, itās nice to appreciate the beauty in the destruction. Itās sad and terrible that it burnt down, but itās also a beautiful and unscripted event. Something interesting to capture. Beautiful work!
Fantastic work! Absolutely stunning
Too soon...
I'm going to Paris for the first time in August. The only thing I cared about doing was going to the Sunday evening mass at Notre Dame as it is presided over by the arch Bishop of Paris.
I'm heartbroken that it burnt down...
You did a beautiful job with your art work. Thank you.
But also do you have a website or store? I would be interested in buying this (or prints) if you're selling your work.
Yes i have! Please send me a PM for details :)
Reddit is usually acting weird. Mostly because if the users.
As sad as the fire was, this is still very beautiful in a way. Good job :)
Did you set the Notre Dame on fire, so you can make an oil painting of it?
This is such a good painting of such a tragic event that I got a lump in my throat as soon as the picture opened. Did, this is really good, and I don't usually enjoy realism that much.
Hello, my name is Ruben Megido, and you killed my father.
Prepare to die.
It's definitely great. Though with the angle you chose and the way you represent the aflame portion, it makes it look like there's a burning Strasbourg Cathedral inside Notre-Dame de Paris, which is equal parts weird and kinda cool.
I thought the author was a Chinese painter Me , but ok
Please tell me my friend, is your username "Rugi-do-art" or "Ru-gido-art"? I absolutely love the fact that'd could be two different things
Edit: Forgot to dat that this looks amazing
I didn't know you can author paintings. I thought authors authored writings.
Way to create art that invokes an emotional response. This painting made my chest ache. Well done. It is horrifically beautiful.
Thanks Islam
Thank you for painting this. We rely so much on digital media these days that won't persist well in historical record. Five hundred years from now, newspapers will be dust, and who knows what kind of computers we'll be using, but with some luck your painting will still around and provide some understanding of what this event looked like.
in no way it encourages or promotes any political or religious agenda.
"You could make a religion out of thi-" "No, don't"
Is it possible to please add Jesus or God smiling from the smoke clouds as they gaze downward? Thanks in advance, Ken.
Are you going to do a 9/11 painting as well? This shit is trashy.
These events are no where near comparable in scope, casualties or intention, you Muppet
His profile seems legit.
Unless he takes credit for other people's work routinely - but largely his other art posts are done in the same style so I would guess that it's legit.
Thanks for taking your time to checking my other posts.
Really like your art! Love the one of Tolkien.
Thanks! I enjoy painting Tolkien subjects a lot
It shows! It comes though in your style.
Because a lot of sense

donāt mind that, extremely childish
Karma Decay said that there is only one on Reddit
I think it is him, I looked through his post history and a lot of his previous posts have the same kind of style :)
Unless heās reposting everything from the original artist..
Edit: guys it was a joke
Well the signatures are the same from the canvases on previous posts...seems like more than a coincidence...
...and now weāve given away all our verification secrets away to the art thieves of Reddit.

In the end, the artist can frame this painting, and the fraud cannot. :)
Everyone's forgetting to credit the person who took the orignal photo
His old posts have the same mark (the fancy R in the bottom right) so I would guess so
....and we never got a reply
You posted 2 minutes after the question was asked. How does 2 minutes equal never?
...and we never got a reply
Thanks everyone for the amazing support! I didn“t expect this painting to get such level of attention...feeling a bit overwhelmed right now :)
My name is Rubén Megido, I“m a spanish illustrator and graphic desgner and the OC of this painting. If anybody is interested in this picture or any other of my works please send me a private message as posting links in this subreddit is not allowed.
May I ask if you were on the scene when it happen?
Imagine it happens pre-camera era and OP painting in front of the burning church, while the rest runs around like headless chickens.
Looks like Castle Greyskull
You realize by putting "me" as the artist, you're giving your name zero exposure, right? Put your name. Take some credit.

Sooo dramatic and beautiful at the same time
Sadly, it is becoming an icon. It is beautiful, but it doesn't bring any joy
āI wanted to destroy something beautifulā
I like to think that the universe speaks to us through metaphors manifested in events, I felt this incident was one of those metaphors.
Should be called notre dame aflame
Why not Notre Flame?
Au flambeau.
"Dame" and "aflame" aren't pronounced similarly at all, though. The "a" sounds are completely different. "Dame" is "ah", i.e. "Noh-truh Dahm", whereas "aflame" is "ay".
en flamme would work. sticking with the original language. tho im not sure its correct grammar wise as my french education is a while ago
I claim poetic license.
That's fair enough, yeah. That's what rappers do, after all. If a word doesn't rhyme right just pronounce it differently!
I say notre daym
These are French words, though, you don't decide how they're pronounced.
Why is the school in US pronounced that way tho
Because they're pronouncing the words incorrectly.
Thatās an awesome title but I didnāt get what you meant at first but then I realised itās pronounced Dame as in tame in American English
Holy Smokes
Notre dame x la flame
[įlack įetal įØntensifies]
[Varg Intensifies]
I only need to know if Quasimodo is fine or not.
Paint me like one of your French churches
This painting can become very famous
Especially if it was made a month ago.
You heard it here first.
Thatās true for any painting
It's literally not a good oil painting. Muddy and lacking contrast. Boo
I thought it was a high school painting at first, lol
Edit: a painting done by someone in high school, not of a high school
I feel like itās offensive
What's not offensive nowadays?
Iām usually the one saying that, Iām just saying this likely wonāt become the world famous painting of Norte dame because itās relatively poor taste. Just like a painting of a sinking titanic a week after he incident would be poor taste. Or maybe painting a work of 9/11 with people jumping out of windows. Like on 9/18 that would be offensive.
Didnt say it would be good famous. But famous in general. For whatever reason. It just captures an event in history that doesnt really happen often.
If you had made this before the fire, youd have a stream of comments telling you to delet this, and maybe a comment or two wishing you had cancer...
...but in French.
I agree, that“s the reason what I“ve taken my time to post the painting. People tends to react very emotionally to certain events and i think it“s wise to let some time pass so they may cool down.
so they may cool down.
Like Notre Dame!
Sick burn!
Is that how it started someone booted up their distrack
Glad you waited. Some girl posted a comment calling the fire "aesthetic" while it was happening and got a lot of flak for it.
I'm still not sure if it was the right time to post the painting lol, but good on you for taking a month or so to wait. I do think the painting was quite well done, too.
As a French person, I see nothing wrong with it. It's a documentation of a tragƩdie, but it's something beautiful in its own way. It's brought us as a country together, to rebuild again what we have lost.
This is an amazing painting, and whilst yes, it hurts what we have lost forever, but this still immortalises the last moments of our beautiful ancient forest
[deleted]
What if the drawing was made before the fire and only posted now...
He should start painting picture of me holding lots of money.
Well the painting would have completely different purpose/meaning/rhetoric had it been done before the fire
In 100 years I hope this is considered a masterpiece and in a museum documenting what happened in our time.
I think those people will prefer the thousands of pictures and videos.
Okay party pooper
Jennifer poops at parties?
I poop at parties but I close the door.
Weirdo who closes the door
Yeah but there is always something about a painting that captures people. Maybe itās something in our primitive behavior. I can look at a picture and ignore it but a painting will captivate me for hours.
A picture shows something as it objectively is (give or take). A painting is distilled through the mind of another person.
Always?
Museums of the future will be weird. It will be like IRL youtube surfing.
a small picture may accompany a painting, but people in the future will prize painters and their works just as we do now.
Well done photography is a skill, but it takes more skill to paint well.
I disagree. Why do many paint when few pixel do trick
there are paintings from the 19th/20th century, and there are pictures from the 19th/20th century. The best of the paintings are valued far more than the best of the pictures.

(and that's just the art sold in 2018)
Thanks those photos were interesting. Billy the kid is fucking terrifying, imagine that coming up to you in the back alley of a wild west town
Definitely not going to be considered a masterpiece unless our standards drop drastically.
Oh they have Picasso todayās modern art crap shall I go on.
Also art is subjective. How can a few people in New York pick whatās art or not. Kinda like sports writers picking who makes it to the hall of fame.
Yes, art is subjective, but when you set up a target then miss the bullseye, you don't go around saying you hit the bullseye (I know OP is not making this claim, but many commentors are).
There are ways of critiquing the quality of art without detracting from its subjective beauty.
For example: there is little contrast in this painting about a greatly historical event. Typically you want high contrast when portraying such events because it will highlight the importance of the image.
The colors are muddy. If you look closely at the shadows it's hard to tell what is a shadow (lack of light) and what is a darker color (different hue).
Again on the shadows: it appears that the artist used black to create the shadows which is a huge no-no in traditional pieces like this due to its tendency to muddy the image and because it doesn't reflect reality (shadows aren't black).
Looking at the composition: the artist chose a very bland perspective to portray a significant cultural event. There's no movement in this piece, your eye is drawn nowhere in particular. Good paintings will pull you into them by drawing your eye around different focal points (renaissance paintings are all about this).
Another glaring issue is the lack of definition. Many of the edges are not well defined and sloppily done. I've worked with oils a lot and this is usually due to not letting an area dry enough before painting over it.
I could probably go on but hopefully that is enough to explain why the idea that "art is subjective" is an uneducated way of trying to elevate art that is simply not good.
Good Explanation. What one can say is good the other can say bad. Where is the line drawn in good and bad art. Example. If I needed to launder money I can buy bad art didnāt mean itās good but now since I artificially made worth something does the artist become famous and now believes he can command more for his work. The perplexing world of art. Lol.
It's literally not that good of an oil painting.
So youāre saying it was you huh?
Im not very informed about painting/art/whatever, but are you supposed to see the horizontal lines of the canvas so clearly? I can't recall seeing too many famous paintings where you can.
Idk maybe most times photos of them are from different angles/lighting/whatever and theyre there. Just curious, cuz they sorta stick out like a sore thumb to me in this pic.
Short answer: It depends on who you ask.
The traditional school of thought is that no part of the canvas should be visible in any way (which is how most people learn when they take traditional art classes at a college/university).
There are other schools of thought (eg avant-garde) that believe the canvas is equally as important as the image on it and is ok to show through.
Edit: in OP's case I would say they should not be showing through because his style is very traditional and doesn't suggest any form of abstraction or questioning of the norm.
It“s a Moire Pattern, a side effect of the image compression in Photoshop. In reality those lines are not nearly as noticable but when I reduce the original picture they appear. Very annoying, I know. The only way to get rid of them is to blur the image but that would make things worse. Or upload a huge picture, which I can“t do here.
Thanks for your comment :)
The wiki page you linked describes a completely different phenomenon regarding similar, overlapping patterns. Maybe Moire means something different in relation to photoshop, but it doesn't explain why your canvas is showing through so well.
Those god damn Minecraft Blazes...
Shouldnāt have left the nether portal open
Beautiful art! You're talented
Hate the subject but love the painting, great work.
I feel the same about your username.
This is beautiful. Such talent.
Whoah cool. Wonderfully done painting.
Imagine if that happened for real!
pirate voice Arrg, me oil painting
How long have you been painting?
I“ve started painting with oils and taking this more seriously around...5 years ago.
Very nice. Needs some BURZUM to give if that extra edge.
Sadly those aren't happy little trees, great work though
This must be an uncommon angle (from a photographers standpoint) of Notre dame because it does not look like Notre Dame to me.
Kinda looks like a skull in the foreground
I“m glad you“ve noticed it :D
Man.... idk if this is good or bad
This suits the tragedy very well. Its hard to explain, I feel like we still celebrate the cathedral's essence, and oil painting feels like an old friend to the cathedral.
If I was Notre Dame I would want to be remembered through paintings like this one (also ones before I'm on fire too).
I'm happy this was painted.
Awesome now burn it and Iāll pledge 700 million to restore your painting
Beautiful. Sad and beautiful.
Absolutely gorgeous piece. Oil was the perfect medium for this.
...not sure if joke or not.
Did you painted this based on your personal experience or from some photography?
Ah shit, here we go again
Plot twist, drawn in 2017
Beautiful and faithful to the subject.
My favorite detail -- and I have the same amount of education in paintings as a kindergartner, mind you -- is how vivid you've made the fire. It stands out, it should stand out and it's beautiful.
~~modern depiction of tragedy~~ depiction of modern tragedy on canvas. not something i see often.
hauntingly beautiful. love your work
Did you do it plein air? If so, good thing you weren't down wind...
[deleted]
Yes, I have. Since posting links to personal websites is not allowed on this subreddit please send me a PM for further details, thank you!
This is cool. It gives off a classical vibe but the event just happened. I'm into it
This is so metal. I'd hang this in my living room for sure.
Ok, I'm broke right now, but if I could offer you what this is worth, I would totally want this piece. Love it. Beautiful and tragic and the fact I cant have it makes it all the more real.
Ah crap, is this not your work?
It is, it is! :)
Awesome work! Love it
Thought this was Conan OāBrien. Great work.
See you on the front page in a few hours!
[deleted]
Nope, it“s mine. No idea about that duplicate. Weird!
Holy macaroni that's amazing
Its quite strange how u can tell this painting was made using one of the photos . Compared to pre-camera paintings theres something about the colour that shows a level of accuracy only possible from a still shot . Love it
Wish you were there when my house burnt down
I'm just imagining you in a sea of horrified onlookers with your canvass painting.
Damn that painting is lit
The soft lines and edges really make this hauntingly beautiful. Well done!
Hang this in front of the notre dame
Alternatively āNot Even Fireā.
6months ago this would have been considered a threat of terrorism or something.
op I would pay to have a copy of this in my home.
I“ve made some smaller reproductions. PM for details :)
Why do you hate the building?
[removed]
was this meant to be a reply to someone?
you got an amazing talent.
The smoke and clouds are done brilliantly. Heartbreaking tragedy but this painting is Very well done.
A beautiful way to document a truly tragic event. Its very moving.
just imagine that this single piece of artwork could go down in history as a clue to how we lived and survived for future centuries and generations. or I'm high, but great work, it looks very well done.
Plot twist: He painted this 10 years ago.
Itās good, very good. Iād like to inquire on price please.
Send me a PM for details, please :)
Oh my god. This is just simply . . . majestic. It almost looks as if it can symbolize something.
This guy's tryna get in the Louvre 200 years from now
I donāt see you in the paintingā¦
Now burn it and you may earn 100 Millions ⬠haha
The alien inside you?
I mean it's a nice painting but a bit much to start a fire for it
When they gonna tell us why it burnt down?
Wow. This is amazing! Well done! The spire of Notre Dame will live forever!
Would have been crazy if you painted that a year ago
Very nice, great work op,i would give you reddit gold if i could
Shocking yet brilliant work!
This would get downvotes without the fire
[deleted]
I did“t ancicipate this level of interest so i really didný pay proper attention to formatting. It“s a pity that reddit doesn“t allow editing the title.
Will do better next time :)
this is like the cover of a black metal album.
Just before the steeple fell too
Really hope they do a good job rebuilding
Yes, I was mesmerized by that moment.
Some day in the future, this will be a historic piece on display in a museum with a plaque describing the fire.
Beautiful work for a terrible event !
Just went through your post history and my god youāre fucking talented. Really nice work!
That's billion dollar art right there
This is incredibly lovely! Your work is quite impressive and beautiful :) I do some oil painting myself, do you mind if I ask which brand of paints you use and what brushes (if you can recall)? I paint a lot of portraits but Iām trying to get more into landscapes, and this is something I totally aspire to. Bravo!!!
Nowadays I use Rive Gauche paints. They are a french manufacturer (oh, the irony!). They have a smooth texture and dries faster than other brands. Otherwise I use Winsor&Newton.
Brushes are Raphaƫl. They are quite sturdy and semirigid, perfect for energic strokes :)
Very ironic! I also use Windsor&Newton but Iāll have to try the Rive Gauche paints!
Thanks for the tip on the brushes as well :) your work is absolutely wonderful! Do you have a site where you showcase/sell your work (or prints of it) or a gallery where you do so? If not - and this is just a suggestion - you absolutely should! Youāre extremely gifted and I think people would love to own a piece of your art, or at least see it.
Iāve sold some pieces, others just prints bc Iām too attached to the originals, but even just showing in a gallery or an art show is a lovely feeling. I know Iād be a customer if you have a site for them!
This is great the values in the clouds are very good. It really captures the magnitude of the fire. I cried a little when the tower feel. I'm not even religious. It's just too sad to see such a great piece of culture die.
Your paintings are amazing!
I would never say this to her face, but she is a wonderful person and a gifted artist.
Wow, this is awesome. Great work!
Thatās hot thatās hot
This should hang in Notre Dame after the repairs are complete.
You forgot all the money flying towards the building
The scary thing is they painted it three months ago
White girl?
see you on the front page *
Alright, who's left?
Beautiful painting but I definitely donāt mind that it burned down.
Thatās stunning! Youāre good!!!
Oh man... that is bad-ass.
Damn, this is straight fire!
Wow, very well done. What are the dimensions?
It“s 35x25cm...I decided to make it smaller than usual because I“m running out of space in my studio :/
Ladies and gentlemen,
.
.
.
We got em
How aesthetically pleasing
put this in a museum, people!
Gosh that's stunning! I love all the textures and the colours are beautiful š
Holy macaroni that's amazing
Drakeās āGodās planā instantly started playing in my head when saw this.
Pretty but sad really pretty tho
That would be a cool cover for a metal album
Looks like a MTG card set in ravnica
"Basically waifu" you know, you may be onto something here
I'd be more concerned and impressed if this was from 2018.
I could never get paints to blend, the fire and smoke look absolutely amazing. Thank you!!
I use quite diluted paint and work by layers. Also, when the paint is quite dry (but not 100%) I drybrush it so I can blend colors. Give it a try!
holy fuck, kudos to u my friend
Fantastic painting. Hopefully it will feature in history books in the future
Sorry this amazing painting wonāt be appearing in any modern day art museum.
Instead you can enjoy the beautiful sight of a bunch of bloody tampons dangling from the ceiling.
Quite striking!
Itās amazing how many times the Notre Dame has appeared in Art. Iāve always been enamoured with Notre Dame in Art, so much so I made an app if anyone is interested. Itās absolutely free of course!
Awhh... happy little smoke clouds.
In earlier times, before photography, I imagine this kind of thing would be considered historical evidence of the event.
This is so heart wrenching, I was hoping to visit this stunning building someday and see all the magnificence it beheld. Such a great loss
Plot twist: OP Drew it 3 years ago..
[deleted]
Yes, it“s 35x25cm.
This is absolutely amazing!!
Next steps: fake your death, this Ponting will be worth so much.
I love this. Not sure what it is called, but I like art that isnāt hyper realistic, and you can see the brush strokes. Great job š„
This is an extraordinary use of color, Iām in awe!
*the french want to know your location*
so aesthetically pleasing
The burning of Notre Dame was a tragic and unfortunate event...and I am happy to say that your picture conveys that perfectly! 10/10!
This reminds me of that one Ladyhawke song Paris is burning
Oh wow- that's a stunning painting!
Sorry to say but this painting is absolutely BAD ASS
The best painting of this subreddit. How long did it took?
I“ve started a couple weeks ago. It didn“t take so long but I“ve found that, once you finish a painting session, you need to stop working on it for a few days so once you get back to work you“ll be able to notice things that you were not aware before (mostly small mistakes or corrections that need to be made)
Wow! That's amazing. What talent!
Beautiful painting, but isn't it a bit too soon?
10/10 would hang in my house.
Beautiful work; thanks for sharing.
Ruben, did you really have to paint this in the most flammable material?
Kinda ironic, isn“t?
This is awesome. I'm not going to lie, I'm impressed by all of your work, but your painting kicks the crap out of your digital stuff (in my view). It's just so good!
i know just the place to hide it for it to mysteriously survive...
Amazing! We can even see the hunchback calling for help!!
Itās good but what would cement it as happening now is if you painted some people on their cellphones taking video it and selfies.
We don't need no watercolor, let the motherfucker burn.
Sad, but beautiful painting
O-P-U-L-E-N-C-E: Opulence! You own everything.
I love the shading!
First thing that comes to mind, this is a metaphor for the news. Read the news and youāll feel like the world is your cathedral, and itās on fire.
Hey wait a minute, this is a paint by number kit isnāt it?
Itās so depressing but it does make history, everything falls at some point.
I am stunned by your abilities...wow man! That is incredible...
"Oil painting, 2019". 2019. One would hope...
Should have said it was from 2017, just to freak people out.
So you started a fire for a painting.
Awesome
Actually reminds me the burning house of parliamentbu J.M.W turner. Like you he also painted it because he saw the fire himself.
I think it's remarkable how the canvas makes it look like it's a freezeframe of a pixelated news photo. This is timeless. You created something we will all remember forever.
I like this... But let out the pyramidal that represent the castrate.
I was waiting for this ever since I saw a regular Norte dame piece.
Dark Spirit Asmodeus has invaded!
La Ćŗnica iglesia que ilumina?
Actual goosebumps/chills. Thank you.
Iām only mildly ashamed to admit that I thought this was the Battle of Hogwarts before I read the title.
it's even funnier the second time around
This is some decent art right here
This is the sort of painting that you find from 350 years ago depicting a horrible event that happened. Itās AMAZING. Great job
what a beautiful painting of the entrance to a dark souls boss.
also, all jokes aside actually amazing painting.
This is what reddit would have been like 200 years ago. You see something, you paint it, and you show it to others.
Fabulous painting of the inferno of Our Lady...
That's great work! Do you have a specific reference photo you used?
Wow this Is Incredible . You CAUGHT that Moment ,Its almost as if You Painted It In Real Time.
Some ancient art pass; some new art borns... Excellent take
I donāt know how this makes me feel
Anytime something tragic happens, redditors all over the world race who can paint it the fastest. The winner gets the most internet points. Another example of this is death of Stephen Hawking And how someone immediately drew a pic of him. Or when muslims did terrorist attack in France, someone hurried to create "peace symbol" that resembles Eiffel tower.
Sheep will be sheep.
It looks like it could be a scene from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
This is stunning!! Well done you!
It'd be more impressive if it was from 2018
It's beautiful but so hard to look at...
You have a very weird camera.
I wish I had half this talent
Wow that is powerful. This is one for the record.
This is beautiful, nothing better that a church burning.
When the fire nation attacked, everything changed...

Getting some serious Dark Souls vibes
Look at those buttresses
I see what you did there, oil
The Notre Dame fire was actually really pretty. And sad. That too.
I deeply respect this work and there is just no way I am able to do so ething like this... But , I've gotta say, this thing came out faster than the Hallmark Movie. That's gotta speak for something.
Tbh you probably didn't even have to include the year.
Looks awesome!! I love it :) What did you use to create this?
Oil paint and brushes :)
Tryin to make a cheesy pita
This is shocking but stunning. Captures the sad and fearful feeling of seeing that beautiful cathedral on live news being overwhelmed by flames. The glowing effect of the fire really looks real.
And at this angle, also you included spire already in the background in its final moments.
The repairs on Notre Dame currently seem to be going really well nowābut what a moment that was.
Wow very beautiful colors!
I saw someone posted your painting on Chinese weibo. Does he ask your permissionļ¼
Not at all! Can you send me the link?
The painting is amazing!!!! I really love your brush strokes
Thank you! Glad you liked it :)
omgggggggg this looks soooo amazing wow
Dd
Stunning and heart breaking painting
Its framed! Thanks u/rugdioart

How very Renaissance. Love it
Edit: obviously the painting, not the fire
I“m pretty sure wooden structures would also be consumed in a similar fashion in XV century :D
[deleted]
Lol
The composition is very boring, for a depiction of such a drama. Colors are muddy, lacks focus, weak chiaroscuro ( which could be fine if not for the dramatic situation and the actual fire). Boo. Y'all are tasteless.
Very aesthetically pleasing
One day it'll be either in history text books or museums. Hopefully both
Please Help this post blow up this is beautiful
Wow. This is is so stunning and eye catching. Iāve never seen fire painted so beautifully. Amazing job
Donāt listen to any of the haters here. Iām pretty sure that most art is supposed to get a reaction out of people, and this is doing the job well. Letās talk to all of the authors that donāt put some form of tragedy into their books. Oh wait.
This is really cool. I like the texture of the canvas. The building in the front sort of looks like a skull and is seemingly in pain, which would be very appropriate in a sad way.
The shape of the windows from that angle somehow reminded me of a skull so I pushed it a bit :)
Would love to have this on my wall.
Was this the random Electrical fire that started ?
No probably some of Maduro's goons that started it on purpose.
No the construction workers would chain smoke cigarettes on the scaffolding. Gross negligence really.
Someone will show this to students in 2500
Haunting. Your oil account of the fire will be around long after digital images are forgotten.
Who knows? I also paint digitally but i know that data will eventually corrupt or be erased. It“s worth the effort of making something physical that last longer.
Take the vote you glorious bastard.
I really like this. Do you have an online gallery?
Yes, I have a website and a store. Please send me a private message since it“s not allowed to post links here :)
I feel like I'm looking at a piece describing an old historical event. Amazing work!!
Op in the future this painting will be famous. Keep up the great work!
This is beautiful, it belongs in a museum.
The things people do to get a great painting. /s
I hope we get to see more of your paintings in the future. Looks like what we'd see in a textbook in the next 10-20 years
Do one of the White House.
This is gonna be in some 7 year old's history book in 400 years.
Its gonna be hard telling future kids what happened to this place

The church caught f-...
The church caught fi-...
The church caught ficnnfjfkfmkdfkfk...
Wow, it really is harder than you think.
LOL
Edit: I know this comment is useless but I really wanted to express how this made me chuckle
a worker accidentally set a fire and the building was eventually restored by rich people who forgot theyāre money can go to things other than art.
not that hard, unless youāre trying to make a huge deal about some ādestruction of western cultureā that is happening while the west steamrolls the rest of the world
[removed]
āthere was a fireā
seems pretty simple if that was truly your curiosity
There were no workers there that day. I'd say the most likely scenario is Maduro had some goons set it in fire as a distraction from the yellow vests. And the church itself already needed renovations so why not get a bunch of rich guys to pay for it?
Oh sweetie, you believe that lie?
Burn that mother fucker down
You forgot to put the dollar bills falling from the sky to put the flames out.
Muslims burned it down. Tragic
Act of #ISLAMICTERRORISM. So obvious. It's like making a painting of the Twin Towers getting bombed. It's hatespeech.
I don't care for what happened here , the world deserved the money for better things .
[deleted]
I would totally hate the painting being used in any kind of political/religious manner. It“s a depiction of a tragic event... nothing more, nothing less.
[deleted]
Ignorant and prejudiced. Are you devout as well, by any chance?
With the money spent on the art supplies you couldāve saved 3 puppies, 7 trees of your choice and a cloud /s
Jokes aside, nice work buddy
Great painting. It's interesting to think that this was the best form of historical illustration until photography. We certainly take photos for granted when recording events like this in present day. For hundreds if not thousands of years we depended on first hand accounts and then interpretation by the artist. With photographs the occurance is often documented from many different perspectives.
Many courts (in the US, not sure about other countries) donāt allow any photography in the courtrooms. They still use a sketch artist for the documentation of the trial (mostly for the media)
Notre damn it burned down.
This painting made me realise that what happened was truly a historic event. Although it is quickly forgotten and washed away amidst our personal struggles, it will be looked back on as a moment of significance.
Did you set up your easel beforehand and have to run back to it or did you have plenty of time?
No, it was done days after the event.
Just making a poor joke. It's an impressive painting.

When will this be put in the Louvre?
Put this in a gallery. Now.
It makes me feel warm inside seeing churches burn.
Awesome! Now if this could happen to every other catholic church, the world would be a better place.
Good Artwork but I still donāt care about the notre dame
All I can say is 'good ridance' after finding out about the absurd amount of money raised for Notre dame instead of the world's real problems.
To me - it could symbolize the impact of evangelicals on religious faith.
Better then Picasso and the shit he slapped up.
Good. Now make one on Christ Church shooting.
Wow. Dude. So insensitive.

But is he? I mean, it's not like the painting is made with some humoristic caption or with something funny. It's just a representation of a tragic day.
Any muslim would love this picture :)
Looks like someone forgot their French lessons on Duolingo.
Oops, dropped my mixtape guys
Use a bigger canvas next time
Think about it. What if we use this disaster as a lesson as to what we care about more. The amount of money raised to fix the building is enough to clean massive amounts of the ocean and many other things, but people have more sentiments towards an inanimate object than the real world. Again, when the Notre dame was fine, it was just a tourist attraction that nobody necessarily cared too much about, but when disaster strikes everyone cares. We need to be sensible with our abilities as humans and actually do something meaningful. A couple decades from now the world will inevitably be destroyed- environmentally -because of us wasting time and resources for petty reasons. One day we gotta do something.
So do something.
Great idea š
But yes the painting is absolutely beautiful
[deleted]
Tragic things happen and it's natural to express it, this is a beautiful painting. You cannot compare this to a school shooting at all. It was an accident, not a planned act of terrorism.
That's a really shitty response. Notre Dame burned down, but nobody died - so calm down. This is in no way comparable to a school shooting!
Do you feel like that about Guernica too?
right, because no one ever painted wars and other catastrophes before.
No one died at this fire. You all should stop moralising, are you new to art?
Yea no way this guy is an "artist"
Go moralise like this next time someone paints some disgusting tits and ass picture, expert. That's what hurts real live people, not some stone
? I was agreeing with you. Was referring to the guy you replied to.
I think OP's painting is beautiful. I don't know much about art, but I like this paiting
Oh I see, you were talking about the commenter
Way to go and steal credit for someone else's work

Why does it matter?
[deleted]
Well thatās disconcerting

I wrote a poem about that

To Autumn Season of missed and yellow frustration, Feckless fuckbuddy of the scraggly sun, Seek you every effort to unload validation Through kegs of Bud Lites. Stomachs, like dew, run; Bruise you apples, crush you like cottage cheese, Fill you with August sickness to its core! Swell you your gourd, if you know what I mean, With each kernel. Iād thought truth pegged its store For more. But late-night lovers lay still. Like beasts. I hope to God these warm daysā warnings cease, For Summerās hoisted chills up to Her seams.
Who hasnāt seen you? I am not unsure That anyone seeking someone else will find You trudging, treacherous, hunting by the door, Your words unflinching at an unstitched wind; Or on a half-made bedsheet, sound asleep, Absent via absinthe, while your scythe Pays lifeās redress, undressing the flowers And drowning tulips. Like lipstick, you do keep Unsteady that lilting smile, in a hive Swarming over South Street. Patiently writhe, Stealing my last mornings hours by hours.
Where are the songs of spring? Yeah, where are they? I try not to think about it. Their tune Forgot by weekends, stumbling away, their drunk Psalms cut like stubble. Summerās strewn In memory of boneless gnats, who mourn Over a lack of blood. You came so soft At first, as a beacon lives or dies, sunk Me like a girl caught in a storm, then Hit hard. Love wiped my stomach off And left me there. Open as a trough. Gathering swallows never gave a fuck.

Um itās history... also itās Art.
I dont know why would you paint this. I bet you painted holocaust too.
Are you fucking kidding me
No im gonna draw holocaust

Why did Picasso paint Guernica? Why did Goya paint The Third of May?
Painting a subject doesnāt mean youāre happy about it. Itās a way to document and understand important events.
Itās part of history now. History isnāt always great. Itās a learning experience and may āsparkā changes in maintenance procedures on historical buildings that could save more historical buildings from burning in the future.
Made a motion version
https://imgur.com/a/wEGvhfE
EDIT: Oh wow, thanks for the gold!!
And the Silver!
Oh, that“s stunning.
Thank you
Your brushstroke style works really well with that software, I love this!
It“s real paint, my friend ;)
He means your art works well with whatever software the guy used to animate it.
Your work is goregous tho. Absolutely stunning
No u
And your painting.
And this gif.
How on Earth did you do that?!
Not him, but can also do this witchcraft.
Basically, you select the areas and have them scale up while lowering in opacity on a loop. Itās a really great effect and pretty easy to do.
Is there a word/term for this Photoshop technique? Trying to Google for it for some tuts, but having a hard time.
Itās called parallaxing, most videos will show the effect of objects moving at differing speeds on different plains of dimension, but you should be able to find a couple that illustrate it by a similar effect to this.
Oh shucks, Ill find one for you:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mcv887rGU0Q
No, parallax is when two or more layers move the same direction at different rates. This is a Plotograph.
Itās also called a plotagraph
This made me smile for some reason. Almost southern hospitality feeling right there. š
Magic.gif
He lives in Hogwarts
Yeah... it's stunning!!
App called Pixaloop. Works really well but requires a subscription.
Hereās one from a picture I took at the Chichen Itza https://imgur.com/gallery/dhqSri9
That is awesome. Post it to /r/Cinemagraphs.
*Ninja edit: Nevermind. Apparently this is a "plotagraph" since it starts from a still image, and those are no longer allowed.
Yeah, I had this one https://imgur.com/gallery/06eBYKP removed from there because of that rule.
so where do we post them if cinemagraphs don't want them"?
Ahhh fuck. Am I gonna have to make this in Dreams?
If you have pictures of your dreams I could do it
He meant the Video Game Making Video Game that is about to be released soon called Dreams but hey... that too
It's like a moving painting that would hang in Hogwart's!
I would be honored
This is amazing!!
nice
....like.....how?
Pixaloop?
It may be just me but does anyone elses not animate?
Howwww
Can I order a framed copy of the motion version?
How did you do it?
woah.
This looks like something straight out of Loving Vincent
awesome
I think I'm too late for this to float to the top but for anyone who likes this there's an artist named Steve Matson that's featured in my favorite gallery that does work exactly like this: http://www.stevematsonart.com/stevematsonart/Welcome.html
And to the animator of this bravo this is really nice
Ooooof at least credit the original painter. This is stolen art
the signature is still there you bezos
insulte rare?
I think he meant ābozoā
I apologize. I remembered seeing it on Twitter. Looking back the accounts match. Donāt call names now
I just called your a billionaire
I thought you were calling me a benzo lmao. (Benzodiazepines) I was like hey no need for names. Iām not a druggie.
Isnāt OP the original painter?
