My labradoodle does this. He won't chew on it unless you look at him; he waits until you're looking at him. He knows we'll want it back faster if he chews on it.

If we are eating my friend's dog runs out to bark at imaginary burglars at the gate then comes back and looks expectantly for a treat.

My cockapoo used to do this with my Nanny! She would pick up a leaf outside and show it to my Nanny until she would get a treat!

My dog does the same but she have a timer if treat is not given in that time period thingo gets destroyed.

My mom has taught my dog that if she steals a sock she gets a treat. It started when my dog was a puppy. If she grabbed something she wasn’t supposed to have (a sock being most common) she would be bribed to give it back for a treat. Now anytime my mom comes home my dog grabs a sock or other random object and brings it to her for a reward
