I wondered what happened to all those old manual credit card machines they used to have in stores.
I wondered what happened to all those old manual credit card machines they used to have in stores.
Sorry, your vine leaf has been declined
wipes ass with it and tosses it over his shoulder
don't know how to use the three shells, eh?
sniggers then repeatedly calls out expletives
i must admit my nether regions cringe in pain at the thought of trying to wipe with receipt paper, and my credit-counter does, too.
Like a boss
Wipes ass with hands, goes back to making rolls, wonders why all the guests get the shits đ€
My restaurant still has one. I've had to bust it out a few times when the POS system has gone down
Most all restaurants have them for this reason, when the power goes out they still need to collect payments.
Good luck if I roll through. None of my cards have embossed numbers anymore
That's when you whip out the ol pen and paper
Woooow, same here, forgot that was a thing. No more embossed numbers, so that's why my cards don't break in half anymore...
that's why my cards don't break in half anymore...
wtf. i can honestly say after 20 years of using credit cards, ive never had one break in half.
Then you're not spending enough!
Jokes aside, I've had a few cards over the years break at the line where the numbers were. I think it was due to repeated bending when removing it from a tight wallet sleeve.
Sounds right, probably your wallet has too much stuff in it too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwEmQNd6wMA
We have a square reader for this reason. I don't know why every business doesn't have one as a backup. When you're internet/power/pos/credit card system goes down just connect the reader and keep taking payments. It drives me crazy when I see a sign saying "Cash only, credit card system down"
Pos - point of sale, or piece of shit? Or both?
Both lol. It's buggy as hell and there's no way management is gonna pay for a new one
I know these are old tech, but isnât it a bit unfair to call them âPiece Of Shit systemsâ?
I liked when my store still had them and I would pull it out from under the counter and blow the dust off cause their card wouldn't scan, got a chuckle from the customers.
I actually saw one in the wild less than a decade ago!
I was getting a taxi ride home from the airport. Took out my card, taxi driver said the machine was broken (which, by law, he shouldn't be driving if it is). He asks if I have cash. I don't have enough. He pulls out a fucking knucklebuster from under his seat. I hadn't seen one in years.
Unfortunately for him, my card was one of the ones where the number is just printed on, not stamped, so the knucklebuster was useless.
I ended up giving him the cash I had, which wasn't even enough to cover the fare never mind the tip. Which was still better than the $0 I was obligated to give him for not having a working card reader.
I actually had a request to purchase one 4 years ago. He called it a "knuckle buster" and it took a little back and forth to figure out what he was talking about and why he thought I'd be the one to ask. Since I supported his electronic POS system, he felt I'd be the one to ask about it. Anyway, he was the GM of a golf club out n the boonies that lost power and/or network frequently.
Grocery stores still have them. Usually tucked under each register in a box with flashlights and batteries and stuff
I remember when I was a wee lad, and the scholastic book fair would come, they would use those things for credit card payments!
Did you or any of your classmates have credit cards as wee lads?
Hotels still have them. I used one a couple of weeks ago when the CC system went down.
Here in Argentina we still use those, so maybe used ones from countries where you don't use them anymore come to the countries that still do?
Any Nonna's on here going to come out and say that once you learn how to do it properly by hand it's easier and faster than with a machine?
Definitely why my mother won't use this machine. Also we prefer them more in the thinner side. and rolled more tightly.
And longer
And harder.
And bettter.
And Faster.
And stronger.
Our work is never over.
Work it
Harder
Break it

Spring rolls need you right now
I doubt anyone would say it's faster than with a machine. These can make a lot, but they're not as good. Ideally these need to be much thinner, which the machine can't do. So these are good if you want to make a whole lot for a party or something. Still more fun to sit down with the family and spend an hour rolling them up by hand though
What's your background? I'm Egyptian (heritage) and I love my ma7shy to be fat and bulky. I don't mind the little things ones that I think is mostly a shami thing, but it's too much leaf:rice ratio
Same in Lebanese cuisine. My grandmother used to make them thicker and tighter than the Greek version. When I have the Greek/Turkish ones, I always feel like Iâm only eating a leaf.
I'm Turkish. The cold dolma you make with grape leaves and olive oil and such would ideally be much thinner than this. You'd also have thin and tasty leaves that were marinaded. Meaty dolma would be thicker and shorter. I don't know if there is a reason behind that tradition though
Actually it called âsarmaâ Dolma is made with almost same ingredient but with green bell pepper
My old bosses who were from Iraq and called the whole dish dolma. They'd stuff grape leaves, bell peppers, onion, and I think I even saw a small stuffed squash in there once
Same as you but I noticed while growing up my moms were rolled tighter and thinner. Lots of variety in style across families.
It's the family part that is the most important. I'm Latino so we make tamales which involve folding corn husks as a wrap. Making tamales with the family is great, accomplishing the goal of making what feels like hundreds of tamales with those you love and also those who you don't see often unless it's a special occasion.
I realized this not too long ago so I've been practicing making tortillas and tamales so I can keep the tradition going when the time comes which hopefully isn't for awhile. But when it comes my tamales are gonna be bomb as fuck.
Haha exactly. Kids usually love it, too. It's like playing with playdoh or something
I would buy this thing though. My hands would fall off from a carpal tunnel flare up.
Yeah my mom said she wouldn't use it, she is way more efficient by hand.
I wouldn't say that but I will question why anyone would buy such a single use machine, then try and store it in their kitchen forever. Who has that kind of space? I don't know anyone that has the kitchen for ever hunk of plastic single use junk that comes out of "as seen on TV ad".
Cause this shit is so time consuming to do on a large scale, and if you make large amounts several times a year I can see it worth it. My mom and aunt donât wrap their own grape leaves anymore cause itâll take way too much time, especially if they are making them for a party and have other things to do. Instead they make their own filling, buy the leaves, and drop it off at a caterer to wrap them.
A ton of these "as seen on TV" products are really meant for the elderly or people with conditions that give them less dexterity.
That was my very first though, too: "Wow, this is almost as fast and only twice as complicated as doing it by hand!"
I reckon it'd be a great present for a Nonna who has a bit of parkinsons and can't do the fine motor well any more but also doesn't "trus these blahdy kids to do anyfing raight!"
Isnât that a babyâs hand at the beginning?
How did I have to come this far down to find someone else who noticed that was a toddler rolling dolmas?
this
Probably just 4 foot tall and 350 pounds.
I think it's just a chubby lady.
My aunts just started using a food processor to make tabbouleh. It'll be at least 5 years before they allow this beautiful machine into the kitchen.
tbh hand chopped is better imo for fine greens. The processor bruises them, comes out chlorophylly at times
Yes.
A proper sharp knife makes mincing effortless, and you don't have to clean up the damn machine afterwards, just give the knife and board a quick scrub.
Buuuuuuuuut, it does wonders for sweet corn and other foods that would usually require hours on a pestle to become a paste.
I can immediatly tell that this is a blunt roller too
Those are some chode looking blunts you be smoking

I build a much more advanced version of this machine for a living for industrial use in the food processing industry. If you have any questions let me know. I might post a video later if people are interested.
Edit: here's the link
What do you do for a living?
I put a square of dough on a machine.
Is that it?
Yes.
I'm interested! Please post đ
Link added
Rather mezermizing to watch! Thanks for the link, very interesting! đ
Damn thatâs a cool machine! Gotta say though, those people doing it by hand there are awesome! What happens after the video ended? A bath in frying oil and them done?
Yeah, they either get fried or baked depending on the product. Then usually a flash freeze before the packaging machines bag and box them up. Then you'll find them in the frozen food section. Some companies don't freeze them and instead sell them ready to eat in store.
I'd love to see a video...sounds interesting!
Link added
That's....not at all what I expected..
(Not that I really had any idea what to expect).
Thanks for indulging us!
Clackclackclackclack....
So you have a combination of machine rolled and hand rolled. Can you tell at the end of the line which is which?
Usually you can if you measure and weigh them, but only until they get fried. Once they get fried, product dimensions can be all over the place.
Itâs the scent of fear on the hand rolled ones, fear that theyâll be replaced by a machine đ
That clicking noise would drive me insane đ©
The little turds are too much for me to handle lol
Those ladies manually wrapping at the end!
Oooo...they looked like graceful little stingrays when they were folding! You should post this on r/oddlysatisfying.
[deleted]
I love how turks and greeks love the same food as much as they love to curse at each other
As soon as I saw "dolmer" I was already cursing Turkey. Fuckers think they invented gyros/shawarma, too, only probably call it kebaps or something lame. But seriously, nothing they have wasn't done better by their neighbors. Except coffee, I've actually gotten high off Turkish coffee.
My grandmother would pitch a fit if she saw this monstrosity
Are you talking about the beans second one?
Its very existence would be an affront to her. If she noticed the beans, who knows where this would end.
Send her to /r/beansinthings
What. The. Fuck.
I need one
I'll take the whole plate but i give you one.
look for leaf roller on Aliexpress.
fleabay keywords: grape leaf roller, cabbage roller
Sarma!
May I ask where are you from? Because for me it is also a sarma
Itâs âsarmaâ in Bulgarian too!
We call it sarma in Turkey which actually means "wrapping" as a noun. Like a wrap!
Yep, that explains it to me :)) and the stuffed peppers are âdolmaâ to me
Exactly the same here. That is the noun version of the action fill. Pretty simple names, though sometimes we call sarmas as dolmas too. I guess because the filling of rice used is pretty much the same.
Additionally, making sarmas as small as possible by hand is seen as a good ability or skill, similar to mantı.
Btw I am not the person you asked, in case you did not notice :)
An Armenian, also call it sarma. Iranian friends call it dolma
Western Armenians unger, Easterners also call it dolma (and don't use sarma at all)
I'm from Croatia!

For $5 might be worth trying? Wonder if it would work with small eggrolls?
2.5 star.
Its usd7.31 before intl shipping for me. Its 5 for u? Damm.
4.99 free shipping.
I should use a vpn n see the price later.
$5, or you can bundle it with a $7 pair of scissors for $25!
Or taquitos, baby burritos? Yum.
I would love to see this manner "sushi"
This would be good to make spring rolls instead of everyones nonna is going to dislike it
Edit: wrong person
All the reviews on amazon are from a bunch of grandmas saying how much easier and faster it is to roll by hand. Which makes sense, this just seems like it adds more steps to the process.
mmmm.... vegetable meat.
mmmmm grape leaves
My Greek grandma used to make these all the time. I miss her. I've had store bought dolma/grape leaves, as well as ones made in a restaurant and none of them come close to being as good as hers. I wish I would have asked her for a recipe or asked if she could teach me how to make them before she passed away.
I bought one of these for like $3 on eBay to roll Sarmale.
Have yet to try it.
As a half Lebanese dude, I would gladly take a couple of these for making grapeleaves. Anyone got a link?
Edit: Nevermind. There are a bunch on Amazon under Dolma/Dolmer roller.
What kind of food is that? I'm guessing middle eastern or Indian by the looks of the jewelry on the woman
Greek/Mediterranean
In Lebanon this dish is called Warah Enab, which literally means paper grape đ The actual translation is Vine Leaves, and itâs super tasty!
The Lebanese ones are my favorite by far.
SAMEEEE itâs amazing
Turkish/Mediterranean. Dolma translates as stuffed and sarma translates wrapping.
Both worda for it are in fact Turkish but ymmv I guess?
In Poland we have something quite similar, called "goĆÄ bki" - (prononced like go-wom-bky). We use cabbage leaves and usually make them a bit bulkier. The filling is rice, ground meat and usually mushrooms. They are served with tomato sauce. Delicious!
We have these in Sweden too!
[deleted]
What a great idea! I've never thought about dipping them in tzatziki! I'm not sure if I will be able to convince my mother-in-law to such a blasphemy, but I'm definitely gonna try that. Also in Polish goĆÄ bki mean small pigeons, so maybe in Slovakian the origin is similar?
[deleted]
Can anyone recommend somewhere in the Pittsburgh that makes these "properly" because from my experience these are always terrible
I can tell you somewhere that makes these badly and nowhere near Pittsburgh! My home.
Someone gold me so I can give this guy some silver
My Syrian friends make these as well.
Greek dolma. Mix of meat, rice, and spice, wrapped in a grape leaf.
Dolma is a Turkish verb for âstuff somethingâ though.
Thanks. I never associated dolma with Turkish food. I learned something today!
Some people just like jewellery.
Snoop Dogg wants to know your location
This is a dookie roller
They make a similar one for rolling joints.
Do not let r/trees find this.
Rolling machines for joints have been around for a long time. S
Guess whoâs the new blunt roller for the squad
You can put your weed in there
This is a gamechanger for us ketofags. Amazon here I come.
That's a weird blunt roller
I want one that just rolls the meat into larger meat.
Slavs unite !
My thoughts exactly
WEED
It's a backwoods roller
Can I use this to roll joints
Oh...my...gosh...who wants to smoke a blunt. This is the easiest rolling tool Iâve ever seen.
sarmale represent
Sarmale master race.
Oh I hate those rolls.
Can I put weed in it and roll a nice leaf?
Yes
This is exactly the kind of thing I come to this sub for!
Is there an STL file somewhere out there :) ?
spliff time!
Mini burritos
Replace with fonta leaf and some Northern Lights and now we talking.
Now I just need a cooking lover to gift this to.
I know a Syrian woman who makes those and they are so fucking good
It looks like they added an unpleasant Instagram filter to this or something. The entire video is nauseating.
What a weird title. I saw no grapes. I clicked because I was expecting some gross meat/grape combo machine. Am disappointed
As someone who has rolled thousands of these by hand.. Damn thatâs slick. Even if it botches every 3rd one itâs faster and more consistent than by hand.
SAAAARMAAAAA
"...my favourite rolled-up dishes."
Hmm. That's gonna take a bit of thought....
Iâm gonna use this to roll a blunt
Talk to me when you can use this with bacon as the wrap.
Put some weed in there
Iâve watched my grandmother do this my whole life by hand! Iâm showing her this ASAP!
Well damn, now I want dolmades
Good sarma
Man this restaurant in Germany had the best stuffed grape leaves, Iâve tried to find them in the states at restaurants but they are overpriced and taste awful.
Now you can roll and be a coke mule at the same time.
Iâd smoke all of those
I need this in my life!
I've got one of those. It's quicker to do it by hand:/
Is this basically a large cigarette machine?
exactly yes
Where is r/oddlysatisfying ?
r/titlegore
Oh man! I was gonna ask if it would do cabbage rolls too!
I want golubtsi now...
ĐĐž ĐœĐ” ŃĐŒĐ”Đ”ŃĐ” ĐłĐŸŃĐŸĐČĐžŃŃ ĐŽĐŸĐ»ĐŒĐ°!
Really: I am surprised someone outsidte Caucausus and ex-USSR (mostly Moscow) knows about dolma.
Ah yes, vegetable meat. My favourite kind of meat.
And for 2 payments of 19.95 you too could have the meat roller.
But wait! If you order now you will get 2 meat rollers just pay the extra shipping and handling.
This would be baller for golabki.
I live rolling meat inside a small spherical fruit!
I've never cooked anything like this before and now I suddenly need this in my life.
Oh that is pretty neat. I didn't know you could eat grapevine leaves.
This seems like one of those things where it looks amazing in action, but then you get it and it barely works and then breaks quickly.
As an Irishman, the post title makes me unconformable. Those words don't belong in the same sentence.
As someone who loves dolmas but is lazy, does anyone know if this works?
Holy shit that'd amazing for making cabbage rolls. Hot damn.
Hold my kebab
TURKISH INTENSIFIES
Now get me a joint roller like that
Does this work with weed
If I had this I would probably eat way more vegetables lol
I saw this online on an add and I thought it was a sneaky way to sell blunt rollers lol
Checked to see if this as a promoted ad. It was speaking directly to me.
Half the people here are thinking that this machine would make some cigar-sized joints.
My mum would think this was great, until it wrecked one or two and then she'd go back to using her hands and curse me under her breath for buying garbage and not being a doctor
As an aside, it's probably more a middle eastern dish rather than Greek. Greece was occupied by the Turks for years and expelled Greek Turks, so they adopted a lot of middle eastern foods.
I could eat Greek food and middle eastern food and the only way I'd be able to tell the difference would be the type of spice used
I feel I need a samosa maker similar to this.
Ooooh i love sama? Or is it salma. Idk
ÎÎżÏ ÏÎÏÎčα <3
Anyone know if it works for enchiladas?
Where can I buy one ?
hol up can I do this with a slice of ham
Now do a blunt
They look like drug balloons
Cute idea, but 2* average review on shopping sites
You should use this for rolling joints
It's only a matter of time before someone comes up with a 3d print file for this and everyone has it.
Can it do herbs? Asking for a friend.
Arabs want to know your location
Dolmer? Lol.
Am I the only one who thought, damn this could probably roll some huge ass blunts đ
I can only think of how much holubky could be made with this
Be a rebel and use it to roll bacon around everything in your life.
Can I get one of these in Burrito size?
You know, you can put your weed in there
its not a grape roller, its a grape LEAF roller. no grapes in this gif.
Way slower. My mom just made some dolmades (transliteration is hard). She'd throw you out with the machine if you brought it here
But can it roll a blunt?
I want one to make egg rolls
Blunts gonna be extra fat I see
These things do not go as smooth as they seem, I was forcing the machine that the rice splattered everywhere and my day wa a ruined. I recommend it.
Weed?
OMFG WHO THE HELL USES FRESH CABBAGE LEAVES FFS!!!!
Cause dolmodis are fucking delicious....
Finna roll a blunt
Fuck cookin, imma stick some weed in that bad boy!
Can it roll a blunt
You do you but babushka makes sarma by hand!
TIL people eat grape leaves.
They are the worst blunts I've ever seen
So, this works for blunts?
Could you make a big fat blunt with that?! Asking for a friend.
Pretty sure you can do that with cigar rollers too
FUCK FOOD ROLL ME A BLUNT
"Dolmer?" Is this sold in Ireland or something?
It would be great if it wasn't wrapped in greens
Question here.... Can it roll a joint?
An easy way to make a blunt
Thatâs just a blunt roller
It would seÄșl well in Croatia
But can I use it for joints tho
Now you can wrap the Devil's Lettuce in, you know... regular lettuce.
That looks like a raccoon shit wrapped up in a decomposing leaf.
"You can put your weed in there"
Slow down dude. Precision >speed
Woah! It's your 1st Cakeday XyphyrriinXephyr! ^(hug)
Good bot
Blunts
I could roll a huge blunt with this.
I have a vegetable roller that works just like this! I'm going to try things I can actually eat!
The toddler hands in the first part of this gif make me extremely uncomfortable for some reason.
Use it to bacon wrap
I was browsing popular so I expected someone to roll weed with it
My Arabian mother would see this tool and think it would be great, she would use, think the rolls were too loose or not good enough, and reroll them herself
You know someone is like, âBlunts...â
Dude, I fucking panicked as I scrolled into this GIF halfway, it looked like little kid hands rolling a piece of poop and arranging it with other poops on a plate.
I had a device like this in my youth. Except green went on the inside.
What happens when you run out of tape that secures the rolls?
Is this how Snoop Dogg rolls his joints?
Blunt roller turned food tool I bet.
Smoke it, bro!
Think this will work for spring rolls? Or are those wrappers too thick?
So this is how every Filipino woman I know from work always has the time to make hundreds of lumpia for every pot luck.
r/trees
what the fuck is up with that first hand lol
r/keto
This makes me very uncomfortable for some reason. I don't know why, there aren't any obvious reasons for why I am uncomfortable with this.
I am a kitchen manager and prep cook at a Greek restaurant. I spend about an hour and a half laying out leaves, putting a portion of meat on each leaf, and rolling them out. It takes me that long to do 200. It almost seems like this would take longer.
Am I the only one who thought that those were beans in the lettuce?
Can this be used to roll huge joints?
You could make some fat ass joints with this....
Its like a giant cigarette rolling machine.
I want this.
Big doinks
u/vredditdownloader
Can you roll joints with this tho?
Thatâs way thicker than any joint Iâve ever seen.
Thatâs a blunt
Blunt maker
Great for rolling backwoods
Yakubian
Make a disgusting turd in seconds!
I felt a great disturbance in the force, as if millions of Mediterranean grandmothers voices suddenly cried out in terror
I'd love to buy this for my mom, she spends hours folding those damn things
She will probably yell at you for buying it.
I can see this bringing joy to grandmas who want to continue to cook through health issues affecting their hands. Arthritis, Parkinsons n stuff.
They still like to yell tho.
That part never stops.
This seems like the type of thing youâd buy for your aging grandma with stuff affecting her hands, sheâd say âno Iâm not using that!â and absolutely refuse to change her way of cooking while it sits in a cabinet somewhere... until a few years later when she finally gives in, uses it once, and then is super ecstatic and loves it.
But canât remember who got it for her and tells you not to brag when you remind her you did it.
I bought my Scottish mum a slow cooker so she could make her terrible Scottish stews easier.
I honestly thought she was going to cry she was so offended.
I bought my mum a slow cooker once, after I asked if she wanted one. She lifted up, said it was too heavy and put it back down. Never picked it back up.
Weird question. Do you have a recipe or a link to one? I like trying new things in a self punishing way. đ
Thereâs a thing called stovies that she used to make when we were kids
-Boiled potatoes
-Onion chopped and fried with animal dripping or lard
-Canned corned beef in cat food sized chunks
Smoosh it all loosely together so you get chunks of potato and mashed bits with the corned beef and onion.
Serve with oatcakes and traditional Scottish dinner conversation
âMummy whereâs daddy?â
âDaddyâs at the dog trackâ
âMummy are we poor?â
Slow cookers produce inferior results to an oven.
If it tastes flat try adding some acid (lemon for example)
No browning occurs in a slow cooker and no reduction.
reduction does in fact happen in a slow cooker, and you can leave the lid partway or fully off to allow for plenty of reduction.....browning can be done in a slow cooker as well, just add whatever you want to brown first, and go on high heat, just like a pan on the stove, depending on your slow cooker, it works great!
They basically will work exactly like an electric skillet on a high enough setting, depending on the model I guess, they are just generally used at lower settings for a "set and forget" type of meal, its always pretty simple to brown stuff in a pan on the stovetop and then transfer it into your slow cooker if it doesn't get hot enough as well...., and still overall makes things easier and more hands off for the process as long as you have the time
source: Commercial kitchen cook/sous/private event chef of 10 years....
how so?

They Donât get hot enough to produce a Maillard reaction so no browning so no extra flavor there, and it cooks with a lid on so no reduction, so you get a bad with more water than it should have. Cooking with a dutch oven with the lid ajar in an oven allows the surface to brown, and allows the base to reduce, so more flavor and better flavor.
[deleted]
Also inferior to a pressure cooker, but folks do like how it's a set it and forget it device.
Right, but cooking in a Dutch oven with the lid ajar in the oven is a superior method.
Ummm depends on what your trying to cook....
No, it doesnât. Anything a slow cooker can do a Dutch oven can do too. A Dutch oven will produce superior results every time. And it isnât a unitasker either.
How is it superior though? I'd say maybe it has pros and cons but superiority, nah fam.
One cooking vessel that can do everything a crock pot can do but at a wider range of temperatures.
I wouldn't advise leaving your oven on for 18+ hours while your away from your home. Plus if you run gas, it's quite a bit more expensive to run. It's more about convenience. Like my mom has arthritis so she can't lift a Dutch oven out of an oven, she would literally schold herself immediately. But I get your point.
Edit: grammar
My mom would kick me in the balls if i would have brought her this
I was thinking about buying one for my gran, anyone have a link?
How do I report a planned murder?
Iâd love to get one for my grandma but I feel like she would be disappointed in me
If we have similar grandmas, she's already disappointed in you. At least now she'll feel nice that you at least thought about her.
«she'll feel nice that she actually has a good new reason to feel disappointed»
I should dig up my grandma's number and give the old bag of bones a call.
Just searched on Amazon for "stuffed grape leaf rolling machine" and got a bunch of results.
I have one, works well but requires some practice.
It's called the "plush home dolmer roller" and is $11 bucks on Amazon.
... And were suddenly silenced!
