Hi, Destin here, welcome back to smarter every day.
-Hi, I'm Gav... -..and I'm Dan... -...and we're the Slo-Mo Guys.
Gavin and Dan are just two guys who starting filming shit in slo-mo and uploading it to YouTube for fun and somehow ended up making a career out of it. Destin films stuff in slo-mo so he can explain the mechanism behind it (and also because it looks cool). I'd rather Destin do a short bit with this.
Although not pertinent to your point but Gavin is not just some guy who started to film in his back yard. He is a professional camera operator who specialises in slow motion. He was a slow Mo technician for Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows. Dan I think was just Gav's friend and they started to shoot things slow Mo.
Your point still stands though, I was just picking nits.
While yes Dan was just Gav's friend Dan also was an Explosive's expert in the british military.
Oh yeah, that's right. Those det cords.
Interesting, I never considered how they had access to a camera in the first place.
One of the reasons they started doin it was cause Gav needed a visa to work at Rooster Teeth and one of the ways to be eligible is by being a celebrity so he basicly created Slo-Mo guys to get famous!
Why not a team up.
It's happened a few times. Gavin on the cam and Destin with the knowledge. That's a video I'd watch again.
Or Gavin on the cam and Destin with the guns, since a rather harder-to-get gun is needed for this.
ĀæPor que no los dos?
Slow Mo Guys have done more educational stuff. Watch their videos on camera shutters, or televisions.

Like, physics stuff. I don't know, these guys are way smarter than I am dumb, they'll find something interesting to explain.
Exactly who I thought of.

For real, Destin would do this phenomenon justice!
/u/MrPennywhistle
I reposted it there before checking the comments, lol At least am not the only one, Hey it's me Destin welcome back to smarter everyday
We use these instead of Umbrellas in Texas.
"-Sir, please explain why in the hell you were firing your weapon into the air.
-Excuse me? I was using my AK umbrella to shoot the rain away. Here's my license.
-Ah, you've got a 'Mary Poppins' carry license. My apologies to bother you. Stay dry sir.'
2A Umbrellas.
Isnāt that because you need a tent to cover your... girth from the rain?
Harry, youāre alive! And youāre a terrible shot!
What if he shot you in the face?
That was a chance we were will to take
How come I didn't get a gun? Did you get a gun?

Tidy.
It's mostly the water dropping from the tent because of the air shaking. Even cooler!
For real! He had to have his muzzle perfectly lined with the water that slides off the roof from the shockwave, absolutely magnificent that things work that way.
Yeah but he almost definitely did that on purpose considering the slo-mo video
Finally some good fucking content
What you mean you dont want to see people slapping asses and asking if it counts??
I mean, it is a shockwave
No it's not. A shockwave, and I quote, is a type of propagating disturbance that moves faster than the local speed of sound
Yeah a slap in the ass doesn't move faster then sound. If it did, well that ass is no more
Listen man, the world can be a depressing place. A nice booty slap makes me smile
Lol, as awesome as this is.... I always see people on this sub shoot (no pun intended) stuff down because it's not an actual literal shock wave..
I don't think this is a shock wave.
One of the coolest things I've seen on reddit
Reminds me of the final fight between Neo and Smith in Matrix Revolutions. Pretty dope.
They call that a Freedom Umbrella here in āMurica

This might be the single coolest thing Iāve seen a ānormalā gun do
The technical term I think you're looking for is 'small arms'
This might be the single coolest thing Iāve seen a guy with small arms do
The little dome it makes looks incredible
Source? Iāve seen this same YouTuber run through 20 ish full auto firearms and am trying to find that video.
You're looking for Washington County Machine Guns, my dude. Here's that specific video: https://youtu.be/bmeRROzi_4k
I thought it was this one by the same channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aej6_ZR0HI
Awesome! Iāve been looking for a week or so, saw it playing at a party a while back.
No prob. The value of having a Youtube playlist just for random shit you like can not be overstated.
Not only is the shockwave deflecting the water, but it is causing it to fall from the rain cover.
Wow. That's really neat.
Any other shooters immediately tense up watching the recoil?
I didn't tense up watching the recoil but I was a bit surprised at just how many shots hit short.
With a barrel and sight radius that short, it's going to be all over the place in full auto.
It's the first round of each burst falling short that interested me.
Anticipating?
Most likely.
Such an amazing effect has been missing from movies and animes!!!!
I like this.

Holy shit, I nutted. I've never seen this before and now I'm in love with it. I need more.
This dudes a terrible shot
This is sexy, and if you don't agree you should feel bad.
I think it's interesting, but not sexy, and I don't feel bad about that.

The /s was implied in my comment.
Off topic you should hit me up if you ever want to argue about other things that don't matter. Could be entertaining for both of us.
Iāve seen some cool things in my life. This is definitely one of them
who need an umbrella now
Nah he just casted a water shield
I think he hit everywhere but the target lol.
Siiiiick
Neat.
And suddenly the daft effects in matrix revolutions are justified. Awesomesauce
At the Stormtrooper Academy.
Paging u/MrPennyWhistle Edit: ah heās seen it on r/damnthatsinteresting
Katara and her waterbending
Is this in Pennsylvania like an hour or so outside of Pittsburgh?
Wait, so that Matrix scene where the they fight in the rain could be realistic...

So One Punch Man was right? Hmm.

That dirt ded
Yeah I don't shoot but I can't believe how much the bullets spread. Is the Ak really inaccurate or is he just shaking the gun to much?
He doesn't seem to be trying to hold too steady, he even appears to sweep right a bit. He could probably find more control in a hip-fire position.

Not a fan of guns, but fuck, this is cool
Not sure why youāre being downvoted. As long as youāre not the kinda person that doesnāt try to stop others from enjoying guns then this is perfectly fine.
Iām not a fan of coffee so I donāt drink it. But Iām also mature enough to not try to stop others from enjoying their favorite hot beverage.
Yeah but it's kinda weird to go into a subreddit based on the effects of guns and artillery and say you don't like guns.
One isnāt likely gonna kill 40 people with hot coffee though!
Video is pretty dope though.
Hundreds of thousands of people die from stress related illnesses and caffeine is a key contributor. Also can make problems like anxiety much worse. šš¼
I will say itās impressive you have a ten year account, thatās dope too. :)
Got a source on caffeine being a meh contribute to 100,000+ deaths a year?
Caffeine increases cortisol levels, the stress hormone.
Stress is a leading indicator in avoidable early deaths as well as the very clear yet hard to quantify ālower quality of lifeā that youāll experience as a person who is stressed.
Yet caffeine remains the most popular drugs of choice for most of the planet. Itās a clear health risk that kills people if we want to be picky about it, it actually plays a contributing roll in suicides (one of the top causes of death by firearms). So one could argue that if we took away coffee, it would create less gun deaths.
this is, literally, the dumbest thing I've ever read. you'd didn't cite a study that even loosely correlates coffee and stress levels, never mind one that shows causation. I do love the tie in that gun related deaths are caused by coffee. You couldn't argue that with a 3rd grader. Jesus H Christ.
Who is arguing? You asked a question and I took time to cite resources for you to learn more if you wish.
The point is that if you wana be a picky about it, you can very easily make a scientific case that coffee (and the hormone altering caffeine) plays a direct roll in hundreds of thousands of early deaths a year. But itās idiotic for me to try to stop another human being from enjoying something, cuz Iām not a selfish prick. šš¼
you should look up what an constitutes a "scientific case" but one study on coffee and cortisol levels aint it.
If you donāt like guns, thatās ok. I like them for the mechanical operations and physics that go on every time a trigger is pulled. Firearms are fascinating machines
Why tf is this comment being downvoted lol
Maybe this was cross posted to an "all guns, all the time" subreddit. I mean, I'm a former Marine and a gun owner, but some of those folks are fucking looney toons who will brigade the crap out of anyone who dares to express a personal dislike for firearms.

I hope some game devs are seeing this and steal this idea as a cool effect on a rainy level of an FPS.
If this happened in a video game and I had never seen this gif, I wouldnāt believe it.
I would. Muzzle blasts have serious energy.
Not sure why you got downvoted, muzzle blasts are dangerous.
Case in point: Overpressure zone from a tank gun's muzzle end. EVERYONE is taught not to be in that zone when it goes off else your insides turn into mush.
Exactly how people still die from blanks.
Except for Brandon Lee. :/
Vidya game nerds who have never been to the range next to someone with a brake have voting rights too.
If you thought I was talking about democratic voting rights then you're a moron.
I have some issues with your comment:
Are you against or for them having rights?
Do you mean political votes or reddit downvotes..?
I dont believe the person is implying to be for or against it. Just stating an opinion. He also definitely means reddit votes due to context of the comment they replied to, just decided to type it in a different way.
Woah there, check out the big brain on Brad! Being able to read and understand context n' shit.
I have never heard someone use "voting rights" on reddit my guy ššš
Wow then I guess now you have huh?
What are you even trying to say here
People who dont have any experience with firearms or with muzzle blasts but play shooter video games love to act like they know shit while people with experience shooting will recognize the realistic physics in games. The former are people who were downvoting my initial comment because insecurities. When someone said they cant believe I was getting downvoted I said the video game nerds with no shooting experience have reddit voting rights too.
I like how you're trying to cover for yourself being an asshole by saying "you just didn't understand it" but the massive smug elitism in your comment is beyond obvious
Who says I'm covering. I literally called people like you morons in my edit.
Can confirm. Have a brake, have irritated people at the range.
Agreed!! When I would be on the firing range for training, if we shot in the prone position the blasts would start to push sand away in wave like formations.

Jesus Christ! That's my first thought. Every FPS is going to have this now for the next two years!
Remember when lense flair was a big thing in early PS3 era games?
Remember when reflective spheres were the hot thing?
exactly my first thought when I saw this.
So I didn't know I subscribed to this sub.
If any game is going to do it, itās going to be Escape From Tarkov
The Last of Us Part II.
NaughtyDog and their attention to detail!!
