At the beginning of fall semester I was discouraged that my dorm room would never feel like home, but I think I did a pretty good job and I’m proud of where it’s at.

Keyboard is a Ducky One 2 Horizon TKL Speakers are the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Both I would highly recommend, they’re awesome!

I live with a roommate, the layout just worked out perfectly for us to split it in half!

Not really haha. His side doesn’t look bad by any means, I just don’t think he cares as much as me. Which is fine, I’m just super OCD about my living spaces (as I know most of us here are).

Same with every guy I know. Couldn't care less about what their place looks like, as long as its functional. My friend repaired his bedrame with some 2x4's and it looks like a construction site in there.

Your dorm looks awesome! Never lived in a dorm but this is how I would want it to look and feel if I did.

For me, the trouble is when looks get in the way of functionality. It's why I subscribe here--I get lots of examples of how to make a place look good without compromising the effectiveness of the space. It seems like there's less tolerance for bullshit in the masculine fashion sense, whereas women are generally more willing to give up some ease-of-use in exchange for just the right look.

And as long as just the right look makes you happier than it having more ease of use, there's nothing wrong with the second one.

I don't care if my rooms optimized for practicality, if it looking awful stresses me out more than the functionality helps me.

With a roommate like you I’d be encouraged to make my side look just as awesome!!

I’m definitely not complaining, but I have the smallest room out of all my friends at Penn State haha. 15x12 for two people sounds bigger than it is, sometimes. Thank you though, I’m really glad I decided to build it - especially being a comp sci major. It’s awesome for productivity when I can get myself to stop playing games.

I go to Penn State too! , but my room in Pollock is completely undecorated and looks like a jail cell lol.

My room looked like a jail cell for a little bit too. IMHO covering the ugly cinderblock wall with posters and getting a rug helped the most!

Congrats on graduating dude!! I am definitely trying to make the most of of my freshman year and what better way to do that than living in one oldest residence halls on campus haha... they are renovating Geary right now if you didn't know!

Assuming the door is on the wall to your back, can I ask/suggest why you didn’t flip the desk 180 degrees? Let’s you see who’s walking in while you’re at the desk and gives you a monitor to watch while in bed.

You’re right about the door and I do love that idea! However, the desk is attached to the wall and the floor. Also, the closet is right behind my chair (along the wall w/ the door) so I wouldn’t be able to open it.

Ah so the desk was provided with the dorm room? Should you ever come up with a solution for rotating the desk, the closet issue should be resolved by a split door, collapsing door or any other type of door that doesn’t open outwards (typically sideways instead) or something of that variety.

Also gives you ample time to X out of whatever porn you were watching

The whole room is 15x12, but our sides are split in half so what you’re seeing is 6 feet wide haha

what did you do to hang the red lights?

I got a set of LED lights from Amazon that had adhesive on the back so it was super easy!

Why so dark?

Not a fan of the temperature that the lights in the room have, so I just use my lamps/LEDs to keep it lit and during the day I have my blinds open - an awesome amount of natural light comes in! I prefer my room to be darker anyways haha

Nice set up, are those red lights those led strips that you can buy off amazon or are they from a specific retailer?

Just from Amazon, but they’re awesome. Came with a remote controller but they’re also WiFi compatible so I can control them from my phone.. here’s a link for you!

Which switches did you get? I have a full size One 2 RGB preordered and I’m dying to get it. I went with the silent reds so I can use it at the office. Already thinking about getting a TKL or a 60% for home with different switches...

This was my first mechanical keyboard so I wasn’t really sure which switches would be best for me long term. I work at BestBuy so I got to try out the Cherrys and fell in love with Browns so that’s what I went with. Just ordered an Anne Pro 2 with Browns, cause I wanted a 60% with RGB for gaming/streaming.

This picture alone is big enough to fit like at least three if not four dorm rooms from my school plus probably have a little space left. I'm just like in awe of how much space there is when my dorm rooms were barely a step above living in a dumpster.
