Shotguns suck balls. I am just gonna drop some intel for normal play here.

The Idea of the game is that Assault Rifles are basically the go to weapon when you can afford them. Ak-47 and the SG 552 are the best terror weapons and the M4 and the AUG are the best counter terror weapons. If you have the cash to buy an Assault Rifle and Kevlar armor do that, with one excpetion. If noone on your team is spending much money you do not do that either.

Kevlar is a life saver and its very very rare that you do not want Kevlar+Helm. Basically only if the whole team buys nothing (eco) to have money for Aks and Kevlar next round.

Pistols are very weak but very cheap. They are used in the first rounds and sometimes later when you really want to save money. The desert eagle is sort of an exception as it can be played like a very cheap sniper rifle. I recommend to not buy pistols at all as a beginner.

MPS! This is very its getting good. Not only are MPs ludicrously cheap, the also offer a doubled cash bonus for getting a kill with them. Mps are significantly stronger when your opponent has no Kevlar, this means they excel in the early rounds. Also their high rate of fire, large magazins and wide spray make them perfect beginner weapons. On a new player a P90+Kevlar is stronger than an Ak47+Kevlar. Especially the UMP offers really good power for its low price, although it has a rather small magazine. The silenced Mp is also really strong although a bit more expensive. Do not use these for long range fights tho!

Snipers are complicated. There arent many of them and all of them are dangerous in skilled hands. The cheapest sniper rifle is called the scout and i suggest to not use it at all until you get basic aiming down. The AWP is the big brother and has an insane price tag. In most games you wont be able to afford it. However its power is ludicrous and a good AWP player can win a round by himself. The semi-automatic snipers are more expensive but weaker thean the AWP so dont bother. I recommend buying AWPs a few times and seeing if that is fun for you. If yes you can train to become a sniper, if no its no biggy. You can become a csgo pro withou ever touching a sniper rifle.

Heavy Weaponry is very very awkward in general. Noone really uses that at all. Shotguns do have high kill rewards but in pretty much any case you would rather have an MP that does the same. There is only one usable heavy weapon in my opinion, and that is the Negev. Its really cheap and inaccurate as fuck, but if you keep firing its accuracy raises. It is the only weapon which has its accuracy increase the longer you shoot. Its a fun weapon, although considered to be a bit troll.

In time you will have to learn how to use grenades, but for a newcome they are a waste of time. I can do a little write up here aswell, if you want.
