Aw man my old buddy from Canada living in Japan introduced this to me over a decade ago, choking up as he passed around this time. RIP Serge

My condolences RIP to a fellow fan

RIP Serge :(

Man's so great, he can make a dystopian future look beautiful and enjoyable!

And no, I'm not crying, YOU ARE!

Nobody here is crying, its just onions. Someone's uploading chopped onions to Reddit... *sniff*

Because he's beautiful, he even couldn't draw fully evil villians

this is so wholesome

With a really high body count.

The only good slaving cultist is a dead one.

Miyazaki made all kinds of neat stuff, some years ago i found a manga about Otto Carius - the WW2 tank ace, illustrated by Hayao himself https://imgur.com/a/SeAtJ

I saw a Ghibli film in theaters a couple years ago (had to be Princess Mononoke for the millionth time) and they played this before the movie. I had no idea what it was, but I could tell it was slightly older Studio Ghibli. Thanks for sharing! It was a thrill to see it again.

Higher quality here

Thanks this is way better quality :D

Damn, gotta rewatch it now.

I got a copy of this years ago and was amazed. I knew Miyazaki could do tech and retro, but cyberpunk? Whoa. Stole the idea and used it in my personal Cybergeneration campaign.

Cybergeneration campaign?

Cybergeneration

CyberGeneration is a follow-up to the R. Talsorian's Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing game. CyberGeneration was originally published as a supplement for Cyberpunk, but later re-released as a fully featured game in its own right under the title CyberGeneration Revolution 2.0. It is set in the year 2027, 7 years after the events in Cyberpunk 2020. The game's timeline doesn't correspond with that of the later third edition of Cyberpunk, which makes no mention of any of its contents or setting elements.

A Cyberpunk "spin-off" focused on the kids of the Cyberpunk 2020 generation. I not only run R.Talsorian, I'm a client too.

Woah that's awesome I just looked it up it seems really cool!

First time seeing it, made me cry it's so beautiful thank you op

holy shit the story and the song harmonize so good together and even tho it lasts only roughly 7 minutes it sure got a good plot and inception-like elements in it, what a masterpiece!

I heckin love this animated short! I've been looking for it for years, thank you!

Fuck yea. Me too.

Hey bud, any chance you have a download link for this? Showing on reddit as an mpd format.

Actually I had to rip it from a vimeo video best I can do is give you that link or send you the file itself

Yes please, thanks man

https://vimeo.com/75179415 There you go bro I used onlinevideoconverter to convert it to mp4 happy hunting

Thanks for posting. If possible, always provide the original source when posting to the reddit servers (v.redd.it/i.redd.it). Having an inbuilt hosting on reddit is nice and all but their service is horrible for the viewing users as there's no option to properly download the file because reddit splits the audio and video stream and if you want to download the video, all you get is the video itself without the audio.

Huge Nausicaa and Dorok vibes on this one !

Man got people choking up in a six-minute short without any spoken lines and a bunch of animation re-use, now that's the mark of a genius.

~~Good~~ Great cops.

This got me looking for more. Any good tips for cyberpunk anime? (Not Akira or GitS)

Lain, psycho pass, technolyze, gits stand alone complex, cowboy Bebop, blackout 2022, alita, bubblegum crisis Tokyo

I second Lain and Psycho Pass. Both are extremely good.

Psycho Pass is what simultaneously got me into anime and Cyberpunk

GitS Stand Alone Complex is still GitS.

Just watch out for techxnolyze, it's dark AF. Made me want to close the curtains for a few days, yo.

Like so dark it can only be described as nihilism in anime form.

This reminded me a lot of the Appleseed OVA from the 80's but more recent Appleseed movies fall into a similar category.

Wow, wasn't expecting a feels trip this early in the morning. Trying not to tear up a little.

Can someone explain what's going on in the video? Some clips are played multiple times with slightly different actions... Thanks.

I get the feeling that it's a bit like ground hog day, where they keep trying until they successfully get her to the outside world. Could be 100% wrong though.

Edit. Removed a word.

That's what I thought. Thanks again.

Beautiful! Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli always make quality stuff

Omg are you serious? I was trying to find it not even a month ago - unsuccessfuly.. Thank you for posting this :)

I wish I could live in a Hayao Miyazaki world.

I adore studio ghibli's work...studio ghibli for life..kudos the Mr.miyazaki

😭 cute angel-chan~

That was legit. 😭

I remember seeing this in theatres a year or two ago, before or after a studio ghibli screening. Was pretty cool

Wow so beautiful! Brought tears to my eyes!

Getting studio Ghibli to do a music video for you had to be a big high point in any carrer.

Anyone got a mirror not on reddits garbage hosting service?

https://vimeo.com/75179415 There you go man

Love this man's work I thought I'd seen it all but this is new to me thank you for posting it!

Wait lmao I recognized this song from a video when people at our high school were sharing tons of inspirational/sad advertisements made in Asia; this one was specifically used in this one.

I’ve been a huge Miyazaki fan for years and I’m so glad I’ve gotten to see this. Thank you for sharing. It was beautiful.

Never seen it before, loved it. But am I the only one left wondering what happens to the two cops now? It'd be cool to know what happens next in their story.

Damn onion cutting ninjas

Love the animation and the story, personally can't stand the song though. But it still tells an awesome story muted!!!

Man I gotta watch more Ghibli films. There's a few I've seen and they've all been beautiful, but I've just never got around to seeing all of them.

wow. as a Ghibli/Miyazaki fan im disappointed i didn't know about this. As a Cyberpunk fan im sad this wasn't a film. But as both i am extremely thankful you brought this up.

Miyazaki and Cyberpunk. Two words that don't usually mix. This is an exception.

I'm not crying. I've got something in my eye.

Whoa. I had no idea they made something like that. Thanks for sharing!

Amazing

I love this way too much

NGL, I wasn't really into the song that much. Beautiful video tho. As usual of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.

Great video, saved by the mute button.

With you there. That music did not suit the gun violence or tone of the video.

I'm guessing that Ghibli made a short film, but since there's no way to monetize short films, it ended up being sold like stock footage to a random karaoke band.
