The most useful website I've ever gotten from lists like this is http://10minutemail.com/ - for when you need an email to confirm an account on some site you don't care about and don't want junk mail from.

Another great alternative is mailinator.com

Or gerulla mail

This market seems cornered.

A lot of websites don't accept mailinator.com emails anymore.

Which is why it has other domains?

Nope. GuerrillaMail has a couple, but they get blocked a lot too.

Mailinator does have a lot of alternate domains. I use @safetymail.info when @mailinator.com is blocked.

Also

where can you see the domains?

There's a box on the bottom of their front page that says they don't give out the full list. But it will randomly show a different domain on refresh.

Like @bobmail.com, @binkmail.com, @veryrealemail.com, @suremail.info

Some sites are getting wise to this and preventing using mailinator (I don't know about the other services)

Two questions. 1) does it have a self destruct button. 2) will it increase the likelihood of being attacked by a platypus.

Ive tried using this before and many websites flag them as invalid email addresses. Its becoming more common.

Here is a list for some other temp E-mail address websites

http://linkchasing.blogspot.com/2013/04/create-temporary-e-mail-address-with.html

Right on ill give these a try.

For gmail you can do +something@gmail.com and it'll still send it to your account. Some sites don't allow this though.

I usually do myaccount+name_of_website@gmail.com so I can tell if they're selling my email.

And what do you do when you've found somebody who's selling your email?

I also do it for that reason, and I haven't found one yet, but I assume I'll stop patronizing that establishment.

Edited for stuff, and also to add: I imagine it's just a matter of time (if not already) until the businesses realize that from the '+' to the '@', not including the '@' can safely be deleted and the mail will get to the correct individual.

Also possibly of use, is I believe that you can put one or more '.' anywhere in the part before the '@' with gmail and it will still go the correct place. Like, testaddress@gmail.com = test.address@gmail.com = t.e.s.t.a.d.d.r.e.s.s@gmail.com = ~~testaddress...@gmail.com~~ <-- that one doesn't work...can't be the first thing or the thing immediately prior to the '@'

I signed up for one of my old Gmails with a . in the middle, now I'm wondering if it's never mattered...

Edit: Well fuck. I used to be slightly needlessly complicated when I would give out my email.

Filter anything that comes to that address straight to trash.... But really, gmails spam filtering is so good I don't bother anymore.

Unsubscribe and badmouth it on the internet?

I have a single, separate account I've used for years to do this. If you need one of those sites again you can still reset your password via email down the road.

Oh, I've got junk mail accounts too, but it's just so nice to not have the inconvenience of needing to log in to a junk mail account when I know I'll never need the email again.

If you have a Gmail account, input the address as username+nameofthesite@gmail.com and you'll always know where it comes from (and which site gave away your address) and you can super easily filter it out.

I find temp-mail.org to work the best, as it uses random domains.

I so need this! Thanks. Silver or gold have I none, have my upvote!

If you don't know about Ninite.com I feel bad for you son

I got 99 installs, but I just use one.

Click me.

I got the Piriform on the crap control. OS's wanna make sure my windows closed.

[deleted]

That was awesome to read.

Well versed =)

You skipped a verse.

His name ends in 69, are you surprised?

Can you use ninite to install to a D:/ ? It's always defaulted to C:/ in my experience and an ssd is only so big

You cant install on the D:/. Because its sad.

The C:/ is happy. Thats why you can install it on there.

But I call my D "Mr. Happy"!

Do we have the same penis?

It is possible. I have never seen my penis and your penis in the same place at the same time.

That's actually a good question. I wish they would create a list of switches that you could add to modify the location. But I doubt they'll ever do that. https://ninite.com/help/notfeatures/location.html

Get a bigger ssd? All your apps should be on the ssd anyways.

Lol at all the down votes. This is correct and data should be on the slow disk

Thanks. What's the point of ssds if you aren't putting your apps there? ninite only has core apps anyways, ones that you'd want to run fast. If your ssd is that small, maybe you should consider using it to cache your hdd?

Should be their logo.

Thing is, Ninite defaults to the C: directory, which in my case is a 55GB SSD. I'd much rather it download to my 1.5TB automatically.

Upgrade your SSD, they're dirt cheap these days

I got 99 problems but keeping my programs updated ain't one

Its the one website i expected to on this list.

Just took a required intro to computers class. Instructor said to use Cnet. I almost vomited.

Can it convert my Red Eyes Black Dragon into a Red Eyes Black Metal Dragon without a metalmorph card?

http://www.wolframalpha.com/ should be here as well

Absolutely. This is the site I thought of immediately when I saw the title. It's a fantastic tool for any type of class stuff. Its helped me in Chemistry, Calculus, and English. Should absolutely be something everyone knows about

Can't solve word problems though.

Being able to convert a word problem to an equation is an important skill to practice anyway.

I mean so is solving the equation yourself.

I'd argue not as important. Historically, knowledge of facts has always been the objective of high education, however with the dissemination of free and instant access to essentially all of human understanding, this is less and less important. What we're seeing is that the valuable skill is no longer answering a question, it's knowing what question needs to be asked.

Solving equations is anything but memorizing facts. Learning abstraction and critical thinking is kind of still a good thing to do. Its also kind of hard to learn advanced things if you decided the basic parts are irrelevant.

Also slader.com for highschool students has a LOT of textbooks answers. Helps me check work and understand problems that im clueless about in calculus

I'm always saving posts like these, yet I've never gone back through them.

Thanks though

http://www.readsy.co/

Useful site if you're a slow reader like me. I'm taking a Bio course this semester and was crawling through the book. Luckily I had a PDF of it, so I just copy and pasted a whole 34-page chapter's worth of text and blew through it in half an hour it would've literally taken me hours otherwise. You can do it faster depending on the speed settings you use, but a lower WPM helps with comprehension I think.

Does it work on mobile? I just loaded the sample and hit "Readsy". It seems to just count through the words?

Android has A Fast reader you can use and other RSVP apps probly too. Idk about iOS.

Retention is the issue I have with speed readers. It obliterates the flow of the reading and that flow is what helps me process the message for an actual understanding.

I guess it just varies for everyone. I don't have an issue with comprehension so much as I do keeping my attention ON the book. I have ADD, so I'll start reading, read something that sparks a thought in my head, and just start thinking about completely unrelated things for a couple of minutes, lose my place, and forget what I just read, forcing me to reread everything.

The speed reading keeps me at a constant pace and forces me to keep my attention locked until I pause it. I only ever really got lost in thought once or twice, but it never resulted in me missing TOO much.

Eatthismuch.com will tell you how many calories to eat each day and then give you meals (with recipe) that meet those caloric requirements with tons of options for customization (vegan, paleo, prep time, size, etc.). Fantastic tool to lose weight.

Damn you hemingwayapp. I'm not that awful at writing.

According to hemingwayapp, Hemingway is awful at writing.

Well, he is the king of run-on sentences.

I never trust my own brain. I rely on a website done by a random person to tell me exactly how I should write. I think that should be the way to do it.

TIL that .pizza is a top-level domain that actually exists.

I wonder how many top pizza chains lost out on this opportunity?!

Hemingway app is laughably bad. Seriously, only use it if you think removing adverbs and the passive voice from your work makes your paper better.

I believe we tend to overuse adverbs, instead of using the appropriate nouns/verbs that mean the appropriate tone/intensity.

I am really hungry / I am starving.

I think one has more weight than the other.

That's a good point! Well said. :)

hemingwayapp - make you're writing hard for understanding when ever their ain't no person who is not not reading it right - pasted this sentence twice and scored 10 - "good"... "0 adverbs - well done" , "0 of 2 sentences are very hard to read"

If you can't be clear then you can't write. Boldness is about your style and approach to the material and no website algos can begin to understand that. They might like to start by checking common mis-spelling, double negatives, word replacements (via thesaurus) etc etc

Your word processor ought to make spelling and grammar checks redundant. The Hemingway app is meant for clearing out long words and too-complex sentences, which are a poor stand in for 'bold' style.

If your writing is forceful and honest and true, then you may not worry about what Hemingwayapp thinks, and you will have good fishing.

Not everyone who needs to write wants to Be a writer. It's a useful website for everyone who hasn't inserted their head in their ass.

interesting comment, but people who need to write should still ignore it to avoid the self-gratification it is pushing onto them

Bugmenot.com used to be pretty useful. Not sure if it still is though.

Why does Cameyo have GE and Monsanto listed at the bottom of the page...?

Thanks for sharing!

Also Project Gutenberg has 50k free ebooks, including famous books that are out of copyright and in the public domain.

There was another well known site that linked to a million free ebooks (not legal), but I can't find it.

So... With Cameyo, I would be able to use all of the Adobe programs without buying the Adobe programs? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Misunderstanding something

Lame. Oh well :)

Also don't forget Zombo.com.

You can do anything at Zombo com

War in Peace in 18 hours and 21 minutes such a short read

Thank you, OP!

Someone remind me again why you don't get karma for selfposts?

saving this for future. nice work

Yes. For the future. Mmmhhmmm

You should also know about http://duck.co

It's basically the community website for DuckDuckGo and includes documentation and forums to help you get the most out of it.

You might ask "Why do I need a message board to help me use a search engine?"

  1. Feature requests for new Instant answers go there. https://duck.co/ideas

  2. It includes links to every other DDG affiliated site, including their github page.

  3. It includes useful stuff in general. For instance https://duck.co/ia is basically the master list of all Instant answers currently availible. Click on one of the listed options to find out what the Instant answer is, and how to use it. Instant answers often include things like information pulled from other sites, like weather, recipes, or music from soundcloud. They also include common software cheat sheets, like vim You can also often expand cheatsheets for more information. There are also reference instant answers, like pokemon info, wikipedia excerpts, and bible verses. These are all displayed at the top of the page as you search for them. e.g "John 3:18", or "Pokemon Blastoise". The actual list of Instant answers is pretty long, and even includes a timer. My personal favorite that I just found is probably ducksay. Which works exactly like the cowsay program for linux.

  4. It includes info about the company, and details like hiring practices and and social media. Basically everything they don't really show on the search page goes to duck.co. Except for the bang list, which is located at http://duckduckgo.com/bangs, and the settings page at http://duckduckgo.com/settings

Very useful, thank you

Does cameyo have to be downloaded?

This thread is a gold mine

Following - great list

Going to give make a gif a try, thanks

So I checked out howlongtoreadthis.com Old Man And The Sea 1 hour and 48 minutes. Pretty reasonable. Harry Potter all books 1-7 0 hours and 5 minutes.

hemingway app is super lame. I just copy and pasted a bunch of college papers in there to test them out, and almost all of them were completely red,or at the very least, half of almost every paragraph. These were all high marked papers that did very well.

i don't trust it.

    • Or, you know, you could just check out how many pages long is the book.

Sweet thanks!!!

Yey! I'm all over these!

YSK about the save button which is next to comments share hide give gold report

Nah, time to have a conversation, so how's your day going? How's the weather? Sports. Economics. Jokes. Awkward eye contact. Accidentally speaking over you, because autistic. Accidentally one-up you and you hate me forever.

Edit: What type of fertilizer do you use for your lawn? What type of grass is it? How often do you mow? Do you use gardeners? Grass makes my legs itchy when I sit on it too long. Ants live in grass, and under it. Grass isn't turf, thank you.

Accidentally speaking over you, because autistic.

Is that really a thing? I do that quite a bit. I don't mean to but I think the other person is done speaking and then they start up again as I start to reply. It is very frustrating and awkward.

Not exactly, I was just referencing how those with Asperger's don't recognize social cues very well. I personally have a very bad grasp of most social cues.

A lot of the time, I just tend to dominate the conversation with someone who isn't very talkative and it is super frustrating and awkward, so I feel ya. Also because I get excited when talking about something passionately

Just stopping by to say nice yard, thats some beautiful Bermuda grass you got there. Just ignore me, thanks cracker!

It would be soooo helpful if they made a "save" option so we could review good posts later.

Don't worry, I do it too, but mostly because, on my mobile device, that save button is virtually invisible and very hard to access.

I love useful things so that I can come back here in future!

I came to comments to know about OTHER useful websites.

and I was not disappointed
