How about possibility that a significant portion of men on OkCupid and dating apps in general are not the sort that are attractive and interesting enough to land a girl offline?

Edit: I mean, have you ever looked at girl Tinder? Even if most guys are average-looking, the profiles are atrocious. Even the photos other OP posted as “evidence” for unfairly low ratings are comically low-quality.

Why wouldn't that also apply to the female sample?

I bet it does. However, remember that men outnumber women something like 10 to 1 on apps like Tinder. It makes sense that a demographic that is 10 times more willing to use dating apps would have lower standards as well.

My big assumption was that lower standards are inversely correlated with attractiveness, but that part isn’t even necessary to explain the graph now that I think about it.

As someone who browses Tinder frequently women often have absolutely awful images combined with empty profiles. The idea that women know how to take good selfies and all that while men don't is just wrong.

Secondly those photos are decent photos. The fourth guy's photo is fucking great, the third guy's photo is good. The second guy's photo is a bit too dark and the first guy looks drunk (which is bad).

Calling their photos bad, especially the third and fourth guy's, just proves the unrealistic standards set for men on those apps.
