Is there a lore reason why these subreddits go to shit? Are they stupid?

From what I’ve experienced, slow content drip. You get this especially with monthly manga communities. Lack of content + people hungry for content = this.

eventually it just wraps around to total insanity like with r/berserklejerk, love that place

Yeah but berserklejerk is actually willing to make fun of the main sub as well as the poke fun of the series itself. Something I have not seen in any other fan sub

r/shittydarksouls does that a lot.

Those are the same subreddit

“I’m gonna go Berserk, stay back!”

“You’re a real dark soul Guts”

Nuh uh, the main character of THEIR show is named Berserk, and the main character of OUR game is John Dark Soul.

Kid named r/okbuddychicanery

r/okbuddypersona will fascinate you

Or r/shitpostcrusaders where half the posts are schizo ramblings on par with r/titanfall and the other half are one of two meme templates (this is alleviated by Araki, peace be upon his name, since part 9 is being made)

I don’t even have interest in reading berserk, but a couple of those memes made me laugh

Sanity is nonexistent in there

exact same with r/tf2shitposterclub

r/ProjectSekai manages to be like this with consistently released content, but I'm also going on the subreddit for a Hatsune Miku gacha game and complaining that there's minors so

Here's a sneak peek of /r/ProjectSekai using the top posts of the year!

#1: It's all fun and games until my GF played Project Sekai on the Mall's Directory | 72 comments
#2: my brain when | 48 comments
#3: What if... Mikuo? | 75 comments

and also children

Content drought is usually when subreddits start collapsing into this stuff, and it gets especially bad when there's no new content planned/released at all or community-made content is difficult to make by the average person.

r/OwlHouse and r/PizzaTower are two examples I know myself that have gone down the shitter besides some good art here and there.

r/smashbrosultimate is on this path as well, gotta wait for the sixth game i guess

r/pikmin is the good ending, total anarchy

Their payloads have been exposed

We can use the power winch to trigger a controlled explosion.

Btw I got two guns bitch

more people = more support of the unoriginal and low qualitiy conetnet also bigger subreddits are target for karma farmers

Wrong answers only, character votes, replace a word with penis etc. posts are as popular as they are because they let people express their opinions, most of these people are too lazy or uninterested to actually make memes of their own so they feel satisfied with dropping a mediocre joke into a sea of thousands of mediocre jokes.

The Lore

its because of the immigrants

Communities get collective schizophrenia when there is no new content

Zamn that avatar🤯

i put the new forgis on the jeep

I drive until the, bloody bottom is underneath

Bro is thirsty for a Snoo.

Well, have you seen that Snoo?

I haven't, but how hot could it- ZAMN!!

r/HollowKnight has had multiple outbreaks

Except for Breath of the Wild for some reason. Like it was there to a degree but given it was a 5 year wait without a name for the sequel that’s pretty impressive.

I LOVE TITANFALL 3 I LOVE TITANFALL 3

r/Deltarune has been going down this path, guess years between updates will do that to people.

I join after I beat the new chapter then leave after a month or 2 when all the secrets has been discovered

The subreddit won’t be like that for long methinks. Usually updates come around every 2 years, and 3 chapters will be coming out, meaning we probably will be fine for a good few months before the downwards spiral resets

Yeah, except chapter 3 will release together with 4 and 5. And those are nowhere near complete.

Hm, I thought they were developing them at once. We’ll see you in 6 years

Toby fox has stated that the story is already finished, because deltarune as a whole "occurred to him in a dream"

He has expanded his team, shown a couple teasers from chapter 4 and releases a new game once every 3 years. Chapter 2 came out during 2020s

Years between updates will do that to people

If r/Katanazero, Tf2 and Earthbound/MOTHER fans can retain their sanity(Somewhat) then I should be able to expect Undertale/deltarune fans to do the same

Tf2 community is dogshit imo. Or at least the pub server side

I think the TF2 community is pretty good compared to pretty much every other VALVe community out there. But I agree that they have not maintained their sanity, the main sub isn't absolutely horrible but it IS very repetitive, and if you do attempt to bring original discussion (which there very much still IS possible for the game) it promptly becomes an insufferable circle jerk.

Even r/tf2shitposterclub, which is the circlejerk sub, lost its touch. It's literally just "gay men are funny".

Hence the (Somewhat) but if I used any other valve product my point would be disproven immediately

I mean, the active valve communities are a different kind of deranged. They got no issue with updated, dota and cs got massive overhauls just recently, but they just aren't the best gaming communities.

It sucks to be honest. That place used to be great now it's just "Ralser search Historie Pls upvote"

Instantly my first thought

It all goes to shit when one person posts a genuinely funny tier list, and now there’s an endless amount of unfunny tierlists

also of note:

  • [character] appreciation threads

  • actually high quality fanart but no source is given

  • users who become well-known specifically for simping for a given character

  • "just started watching/playing the media, enjoying it so far!"

  • someone encountering a character who dies for the first time, followed by every single comment being some variation of "guys don't tell them" (looking at you, r/ffxiv)

  • untagged Omori spoilers (how the fuck is every single fandom subreddit filled with untagged Omori spoilers)

  • "drawing the characters as Among Us crewmates day 43278"

  • major untagged leaks/spoilers making it to the front page because the moderators have been inactive since 2017 (looking at you, r/kamenrider)

  • "i asked my mom/dad/grandpa/grandma/cat/dog to name all the characters"

Rp gimmick accounts

The Terraria Calamity mod subreddit was a cesspool of RP gimmick accounts sexting in the comments a month or two ago. It mostly stopped after they created a subreddit specifically for RPing, but it was a goofy time to be a part of that community before the creation of the new sub. The Calamity mod community in general is pretty fuckin weird but you get used to it eventually

Yea last time I checked its nothing but gajinka fan art of bosses

Never thought I'd see calamity mentioned here lol

fucking cristh this is sad, how fucking no life you need to be to act this way?!

I despise the majority of rp accounts if not all of them

I can accept RP gimmick accounts when they aren't hornyposting. I've seen some genuine comedy come out of them.

just remembered the Caretaker Circlejerk subreddit that eventually turned into one guy making fursonas of "fan albums"

omori kid sucks omoli better

Missing the DRG fan that calls in a swarm of DRG fans anytime there’s a tiny reference to funny dwarf game

ROCK AND STONE

Rock and Stone to the Bone!

if you dont rock and stone, you aint coming home

If you rock and stone, you're never alone.

But that's on every subreddit. Run from it, hide from it, dwarves will find you anyways

The good ol days of people on the helluva boss subreddit praising somebody who was obsessed with a non existent character

Oh yeah, and that didn’t credit an artist, even when asked to

Was this about the parrot boy or the fucking baby imp-owl hybrid i see everywhere

fuck spiroz all my homies hate spiroz

Nah it was about that one minor who commented under any post containing the furry bait

... I'm terrified and yet i wanna know so much more.

It’s a rabbit hole in and of itself, recap is that a guy was simping hard for Loona and became one of those gimmicks micro celebrities you see every time on Reddit, the sub’s moderators found out he was a minor and they banned him, thus dividing the Reddit community in half

That 3rd one is puzzlehead for AOT and everyone in the bluelock sub

So are you saying we’re some kinda Fuck Hitch From Attack on Titan?

Truly one of the buddylainah moments of all time, hild enjoyer

i dont know any users who're well known for simping in the bluelock sub?

Edmem for ness, that one chigiri sister simp, and some lesser known simps for lesser known characters

I never get to discuss this but I remember before the anime came out everyone feared for BL/yaoi shippers and now everyone accepts it in a fun way lol

I remember back when I used to frequent r/memehunter there was this one dude who's entire personality was thirsting after someone from the spinoffs it was very cringe

Danganronpa?

r/ffxiv don’t hint at major plot points challenge (impossible)

r/ffxiv users trying not to comment every single plot twist in Endwalker when a sprout posts unrelated fanart of their character

Don’t forget the “Am I the only person who enjoyed X?” posts.

Like buddy, you’re on the X subreddit, that is specifically about X. All we talk about here is X. Obviously you’re not the only person dumbass.

i have been spoiled for omori in 8 different communities :(

“ (character) chess day 7365 too comment legal or not”

r/omori to a fucking T (ironically only realized its mentioned in your comment after i typed)

i've only been into the game + fandom for like 2 months but still, damn

tbf i am one of The Shippers so can i really speak

Fuck man plants vs zombies was my shit, and literally this is every post in that subreddit

The worst part is the fact that it could've been so much worse, considering what happened to r/PvZGardenWarfare

"drawing the characters as Among Us crewmates day 43278"

Bro I HATE THOSE but you cannot say anything cuz it's so obvious that its only kids that are doing that so you cant say anything cuz youre gonna be mean

Don't forget the cosplayers, there are two types of them. Literal goblins on a good costume or women who are most definitively not selling their OF account.

MHA sub i think idk i am not even interested in the anime anymore.

https://i.redd.it/1siy7r43k2ya1.gif

[removed]

Eh i only read the manga now to see how it ended, not so interested in the anime or anything else anymore.

https://i.redd.it/p07ooln7n2ya1.gif

Used to be a big fan tho.

why do people say the series got bad?! like what happend?!

The series didn't 'get' bad, in the very first episode they set up an interesting premise and then immediately betrayed it. The future number one super hero had no super powers, which is an exciting concept until he eats the hair of the deus ex machina and gets the superest powers.

are you refering to when deku started to get diferent powers?

No just allmights super strength I admit it is a bit of an overreaction but I have the same sentiment.

can confirm its like that every damn day

Oh hey u/Pete-zaTime! Fancy seeing you around here!

I guess cause they’re the Quirky She/They Autistic Rawr :3 of the fandom

But hate the r/Grandorder subreddit

That’s a weird way to say r/pizzatower

r/battlefordreamisland was like that when tpot 3 was still in development, luckily the amount of those types of posts decreased ten-fold once new episodes started rolling out for once. in another related funfact, someone literally posted shitty mspaint pillow|blocky rule 34 on there. now, as a guy who's horny for a pen, i am kind of attracted to object show characters and look at genuinely good rule 34, but that post was so shit even i couldnt be bothered to enjoy it.

I feel for you and totally relate to that sort of situation, but "I am horny for a pen" is the sort of sentence you couldn't waterboard out of me.

well thats because im less afraid than most people, and ive accepted the fact that i indeed believe sentient objects are pretty attractive to me.

This man is honest

Heheh.. Yeah.. Who would have a crush on an object.. sweats

Rip pizza tower 🙏 If only a good game could manage to have a good community

I was expecting the same creativity the deltarune community showcased at the game's apex

Then i was bombarded with "SkRuNkLy FaKe PePpInO" and minus8 r63. The sheer disappointment after playing such a well made game

Seriously, I swear that 90% of the people active in that subreddit haven't touched the game. Every once in a while you'll see some actually good posts that hit that level of creativity you were referring to, but they always get lost in new. It's a major bummer

Tf2

That's what happens when a franchise or piece of media receives no new content officially. I'm in the Mario & Luigi subs but nothing is happening there.

Pretty much any game focused sub I've been on has had this happen. Worst was Doom, before 2016 it was pretty great, just people talking about the games, speculation about sequels, sharing mods, occasional memes. Doom 2016 drops and even though the game was amazing the userbase there just went absolutely insane and it just became a meme filled shithole.

I stuck around just to keep tabs on sequel news, but i could only stand so many "how long would doom guy last against ultra instinct shaggy" memes so i just had to leave.

This is inches away from being a meta meme

THE ONE PIECE

r/SonicTheHedgehog be like

And then there are communities like Hi-Fi Rush's subreddit that are 80% the SFW alternates of porn.

I'd arguably say r/MySingingMonsters is going through this.

Man, I hate the new fandom

That boost in popularity has been a blessing and a curse for the series, I still have flashbacks to some of those clickbait thumbnails...

Being in the fandom for so long, I've seen a lot.

r/Pikmin had this going at one point but we back baby

r/deltarune, r/Kirby, r/danganronpa, etc

Ut and DT community is honestly the saddest place in the universe considering how fire these games are

r/kirby's sudden obsession towards susie recently surprises me

I love seeing all of the people tragically mourning basically every fandom sub in existence. It really is tragic, but in an entertaining way (I am distracting myself from my own issues with subs for things I like).

but none of them are as unhinged as r/pikmin trust me

hey look the kirby subreddit sorta

one time i criticized a post on r/deadrising for being literally just traced official renders and everyone on the subreddit acted like i was against fanart

This is why r/batmanarkham is the best subreddit

Pizza Tower. I left after the war on horny began.

How the fuck is pizza tower of all things having a horny crisis? At least r/kirby is somewhat understandable.

No, there was the normal, slow trickle of vaguely nsfw fanart, and people went fucking apeshit. Bullied minus8 because they animated the topping gals, and brainded comments like "Bonk! No horny! Go to gulag." would get 500+ upvotes under a post with literally just a woman. Game's great, community's become super fucking toxic.

People turned the fucking toppings into big tiddy anime waifus

r/btd6

I thought from the start of this one it was a meta critique of this sub (which had some 10/10 post but the whenthe has gotten a bit mid).

As for the actual context, I kind of agree, but usually this kind of stuff happens because people enjoy an IP and the IP itself isn't producing new content, so you have lots of fans (usually young) exploring and getting as much content out of the IP as possible.

It might not be for me, but I don't wanna rain on others fun, plus usually there's a few threads of actual talk or discussion.
