X264 also known as AVC is an old way of compressing videos, designed to be decoded fast given the hardware limitations of the time. It compresses videos pretty good compared to the quality loss.

X265, also known as HEVC is the next generation of x264. In short, hardware got better so we can compress videos even more at the cost of needing to do more actions to decompress it, but since hardware is much better its ok. X265 gives you the same video quality for 20% or 30% (I forgor 💀) less file size.

AV1 is another video codec, which is even more efficient than x265, but also harder to encode/decode and its very new so not a lot of movies are encoded in it

AAC is an audio format, same concept as x264/x265. I think it was made by Apple for their iTunes or whatever that is. Its not a good quality unless you really need save space. Its considered a very small step up from mp3.

In movies/TV shows you would usually want flac, dts or any lossless format, you can google it to get a list of those. (I'm not sure if DTS is lossless but its usually high quality)

For videos you would want x265 or AV1 (not AVC). Make sure the bitrate is high, higher bitrate = (usually) higher quality for the same format.

That being said, just watch whatever you want. If you dont try hard to find differences and let yourself get immersed in what you watch, you'll enjoy it regardless. Happy pirating

I just believe in paying for my entertainment because I work in the industry and would like to keep my job. People lose their livelihoods over pirated content and then everyone complains that the content is getting worse. You get what you pay for. This isn't even about the law, I just think it's really shitty to steal people's work like that when they have families and lives to feed and pay for. (Also, disney is like $8 a month, if you can't afford that, that's kinda sad, man.)

I'll pay the money if I have ownership over the media I'm purchasing. If it's just licensed out to me through a streaming service, sorry, not getting my money. I once purchased David Lynch's Lost Highway on Amazon Prime, paid in full, and then when I went back to watch it again a few months later it was wiped from the service. Ever since then I'll either buy a blu ray release and rip it onto my home server, or pirate. Same with music, I'll usually purchase a Vinyl release, bandcamp, or buy some merch, and then pirate a digital version for safe keeping. At least the artist is getting my support and I'm not getting screwed by corpos.

Basically you're becoming an extra source for other people to more easily download the same file you just downloaded. Torrents try to get small chunks of a file from all kinds of sources rather than copying one file directly so the more sources there are seeding, the easier it becomes to torrent.
