Unironically I get it.

I stumbled upon Cowboy Bebop at a very low point in my life and I got a lot of life lessons from it.

But I do disagree with the main point of the story, which is also the main point of every western ever made, that you can't escape from your past.

In cowboy bebop, all 4 characters at some point are either forced to or force themselves to confront their past selves in the form of either facing the consequences of their past actions or being haunted by people in their past. In other words, the show coveys the message that you can't escape from who you were.

I disagree with that. A long time ago I was a major cunt, I was a completely different person. One day I simply made the decision to change for the better and I burned all bridges to my old self and now, almost 10 years later, I have no strings pulling me back towards it. Some people from my past showed up and I just ignored them.

The broken people that comprise the crew of the Bebop are choosing to look at their past instead of moving on. Fae is the only one that gets it, she is the one that broke the cycle. Jet is a walking zombie, unable to save his own friend, stuck inside his own sorrow for his past life. Spike is literally incapable of moving on, he chooses to go after Vicious, he chooses to kill himself in the way he did.

Fae managed to save herself but couldn't save the other two.

Sometimes I read a really cool reply like this and I'm like holy shit what an amazing experience someone chose to share but realistically it's almost certainly a copy paste from some long forgotten source for karma -.-

Sorry to end the magic, but I typed this on my phone from my toilet while I was taking a massive dump.

But we can talk about my experience it you want

That's one hell of a profound deuce

And here I am, reading your story, while taking taking a fat shit.

Good experience, would read again.

Why would you think that so assuredly? Most comments are all new content still lol

I like Ed's part as well. She seems like comic relief but she's a good foil to the rest of the cast. While everyone else is trying to contend with the mistakes of youth, Ed is trying to figure out how to forge her own identity and have a future. I thought that was a really neat touch to have that contrast

She joins the crew on her own terms, and she leaves the crew on her own terms when things are done.

Looking at her again, she's got some autistic traits.

They refer to her as she throughout the series, both in the dub and sub. When referring to her father, Ed is described as "his daughter."

Leaving your past behind can only happen if you confront it. Seems like that's what you did. You just didn't let it drag you back into it first.

I havent watched cowboy bebop in a long time but I remember the main parts and it wasnt like you say

first off its not like spike could just walk away, during the entire series vicious is after him killing the people who are basically his family. he tried to run away at first with julia but she choose to stay behind and at the end vicious killed her too so spike had nothing to live for and choose to finally face him

as for jet he tried going back to his old cop days with his former partner only to discover the guy who took his arm didnt do it but it was his partnet who was a corrupt cop. then he goes back to his ex who left him just to find out she's with a criminal now and even after the scumbag almost gets her in jail she still defends him and rejects jet, who at the end decides to just stop thinking about it

as for faye, the thing is she wasnt escaping from her past because she didnt have one anymore, just the debts that that other guy left her. but when she learns about her past she has a sort of quiet breakdown, only to realize theres no point since everything is long gone and theres nothing to go back to, which is kind of the situation spike is in now except faye has no revenge-motive against anyone for what happened to her, but spike does. he tried to let it go but as al pacino says in the godfather "they pull me back in"
