I think my ability to hold attention of something has finally been killed if i use an app to skip around in multiple podcasts

[deleted]

I am not sure if they will die. If you make books and podcasts searchable, they will just be more accessible to people in general. There's a high cost in reading and consuming these knowledge yet we know they are valuable to us. Our tool helps you discover and learn more

I think this is a terrible mindset. Books are already the length they are intended to be. You won't properly learn a subject or engage with a story from a collection of soundbytes. It's already a problem with podcasts pn history and politics that you don't really learn subjects from podcastd, even slow ones. You have to read books to learn. Skipping around will just give you superficial knowledge and it won't stick learn term. Yes it is a high cost, but we need to remind people that it's worth it.

i do agree some books just have filling pages

I dont think so. I read so many non-fiction books a year and most of them can be summarise into a chapter or two and doesn't have to be that long. What's more useful for learning is synthesising information, meaning connecting the dots. If you want to learn about storytelling, for example, you would want to read a few books on it and then draw up your own mental model of it. The problem is most people struggle with reading enough books so it's a big ask to expect someone to read 100 (lots of) books a year. I do it but it's not easy. And thats why I want to build tools to fix this.

Huberman Lab podcast has 145 episodes (maybe even more now), each averaging 2 hours long... we know they are super useful but we can't go through all of them... knowledge are "hidden" under the vast amount of resources and Synthesis Youtube is just our first step to make things more discoverable.

We still have a long way to go in terms of development but we are excited to share more with you guys in the future :)

I see where you are coming from. Attention is usually not the problem. It's more consideration span that has been widely affected by social media. How I see it is imagine being able to create a compilation of video segments that are relevant to your search query. You can to learn about your topic or question from different podcast episodes :)

Having said that, this is just the beginning. We are working on developing features to better help people consume podcasts (and knowledge in general) more effectively.

Would suggest putting the results on mobile right underneath the search bar, got confused where the results were.

Also maybe put the examples as placeholder text within the search bar or as a clickable info icon nearby?

Thank you for the feedback! Noted and will make adjustments accordingly 🙏🏼

OP: How does this impact monetization for the content creators?

It helps them :) since we are driving more traffics and views back to the original video they posted on YouTube :)

What percentage of views drives back to the original video?

Spoilers: almost none of them, I would bet.

Why would someone watch the original video when they can get all the useful info from your "tool"

Same reason why someone would still read the entire book after reading the book summaries

You mean the blurb? That the author gets to dictate? This is not the same thing.

And if you are talking about longer form summaries written by third parties, then most people who read those summaries world never go on to read the book

I meant longer form summaries like blinkist and shortform. You will be surprise by how many people use book summaries to decide whether they want to read the full book :)

index the cumtown podcast, the only show where I get upset if I can't locate a bit I'm remembering

Fuck yes. I was just trying to find the Indian guy "hello baby girl" bit yesterday. Totally forgot it was called Romeo dialing.

There was an early episode of The Bodega Boys where one of them talks about people with aggressive dogs that made me come dangerously close to literally pissing on my living room carpet. I'd love to be able to find it again. The line that killed me was like "you see the dog and he has a tattoo that says Chotchsky... Who's Chotchsky?"

I'd love to be able to search that freaking section but going through hundreds of episodes to find it is too much.

True, i still cant find that clip about center bottom titties

How do you use it? Sorry, I am tech stupid.

No problem buddy:

  1. Search for the topic or question you have in mind
  2. Select the podcast(s) that you are interested to search through
  3. Enjoy the relevant segments from different podcast episodes!

My favorite podcasts are on YouTube?

We are focusing on podcasts that have video versions on YouTube :)

Highest attention-span Zoomer:

Yeah. I don't want to get reliant on things like this. I'd probably use it to find segments that I want to share with someone else. I could see it being useful for other people so they can avoid certain triggers.

Basically it's a neat tool but probably won't change how I listen to podcasts.

Sharing segments of podcasts with other people is something we thought about :) creating some form of social listening environment where everyone can collaboratively listen to podcasts is something that excites us too :)

It’s not about attention span but more about reducing information overload and listen to podcasts more effectively

I just like listening to podcasts for the enjoyment of fun conversation and not like I'm cramming for a research paper. I hope people aren't listening to podcasts like they are legitimate sources of vetted information. I don't really know who this is for then.

You are right - it depends on why you are listening to podcasts. Same reason for fiction and non-fiction books. You might read fiction books for enjoyment and non-fiction books for learning and actions. Our product is for people who want to learn something useful that they can apply to their lives :)

exactly, I'm interested in podcast about subject i study for my work and I might need to remember in which they explained some stuff I find relevant some time later. There are podcasts you listent to for fun and some run from professionals you listen for education.

Exactly! 🔥

There are so many podcasts out there! You might be able to do one because you have high ability to consume knowledge but it's hard to do it for more than a few podcasts

Man, humans are becoming so lazy and dependent.

It’s impossible to watch all the episodes of a podcast yet we know there are many hidden gems within them. This tool helps you find them :)

Or helps sell ads the real reason this was made lol.

Great idea. Can't wait for it to have more podcasts

Thank you! Yes, we will add more podcasts moving forward <3

[deleted]

Yes, we have only included a few podcasts for this launch but we are keeping a list of new podcasts to add for our next update so if there's any podcasts you are into, then just comment here and we will take note :)

The Always Sunny podcast

Looks great, whats the business model going forward?

We don’t need to go down the ads route if we focus on B2B that’s beyond advertising model :)

Doubtful everyone succumbs to the money train

Still exploring but we are considering either a freemium model or keep the B2C free and get revenue from B2B route instead. We are passionate about making accessible tools that help people learn more effectively and so B2B route can potentially facilitate that :)

Sounds good! Wish you best of luck. Can I DM you, want a few tips from you?

Thank you and of course, happy to chat :)

I haven't tried it yet. It sounds like a good idea for discovery, there's so much content out there. I think it would be good to have good limits on queries. Because I also think this is a GREAT tool for making deep fakes (if it works how I think it does, like I said I haven't tried it yet).

Yeah, one of the use case is discovery for new podcasts of the same topic / conversation! Our tool can't be use for deep fakes because we are generating any new materials :)

Sorry, I couldn't parse this. I meant, if you can pull relevant segments from videos, and already have an idea of the subject matter, you can then leverage such a system to grab all the necessary audio to train a voice model. Possibly something to help refine the video model. There may already be more efficient system for this, but if a n00b or hobbyist wants to put something together with premade tools and little skill, this would be useful.

Sure thing but then you can retrieve many things on the internet to create deep fakes in that case. It depends on your intent at the end of the day :)

Cool. It would be amazing to subscribe to the synthesized versions using RSS

Noted. We will look into it :)

This is the first I've heard of YouTube being a podcast platform. Since when can you watch audio files?

There are podcasts that have video version. We started there but we are working on audio-only podcasts for the future :)

Search function doesn't work.

I also don't listen to any of the suggested podcast that you have to select 2 from..

Lol

Lol

the search function works fine for me? How is it not working for you? :)

Also, yes we only launched 12 podcasts this time but we are ready to onboard more podcasts so if you have any you like, just comment down below and I am noting them :)

This is interesting i recently stumbled upon another one! What the difference between this and PodFast AI?

If you mean Podcast AI, they generate podcasts using AI whereas we use AI to search through real podcasts and return back relevant segments from different podcast episodes :)

Thats a new one too thanks for sharing! I meant podfast.app it seems they do very similar to this one too. Btw are you a the Dev?

Mhmm yes, it is very similar so thanks for sharing! It doesn't seem to return relevant segments (sources) by the things on their landing page. It's creating AI summaries over podcast episodes, which it's definitely something we are experimenting but we also want users to have access to segments and be able to create their own summaries and discover new podcasts!

I am a final year PhD student in the UK :)

Really appreciate your time thank you for the information and will definitely check this out 🙏

Thank you and yes, please check us out and if you have any feedbacks, don't hesitate to reach out :)

"Watch?" YouTube? Podcasts are audio. Why would I want to watch someone filming what is essentially a radio show?

This is just another way to sell ads

Watch podcasts on youtube. Some podcasts have video version as well as audio :) In the future, we will include audio podcasts too!

very interesting, will keep an eye out on this one
