Very cool stuff.

Very few scenarios could pull off a friendly encounter of US and Russian aircrafts

Aren’t most former Eastern Bloc countries now NATO, and many still have MiGs?

Not the newer upgraded ones i guess. I think only India fields the modern Russian tech vs US tech in exercises

Honestly i wouldn't be surprised if Poland's MiG 29s are in better condition than Russia's ones.

I doubt it. Lack of spare parts is a huge problem. Poland does not manufacture them and buying from Russia is obviously a no go. There have been at least one pilot death due to local repair (using wrong materials) of an MIG 29 ejection seat.

I doubt it as well, but not so strongly that I'd be surprised if we were to discover spare parts for MiGs might be as hard to source inside Russia as outside, after all the losses in the past year.

Good thing Ukraine still has intact soviet maintenance facilities. Or at least did.

Mostly spare parts that have been hidden away in military warehouses are being used. But the aircraft are in a great condition, i was suprised how good actually. And that seat thing happened cause a guy didint realize the part he was remaking was a shear pin. 🙃

Jets are one of the most expensive parts of military equipment and often the one area that take a lot of time to modernize. And plus the former eastern bloc counties have generational experience with Soviet/Russian equipment. It’s a pretty complicated process.

My country still flies (somewhat upgraded) MIG 21's. They were supposed to be phased out last year, but they extended it for another year.

Wow that's some vintage tech. What country are you from?

The Malaysian air force has legacy Hornets and Su-30MKM Flankers.

Not too long ago we had F-5s and MiG-29s too

Here's a picture of the Malaysians in formation with an American F-15 and F-22

That there is straight up pornography.

I approve.

F-5s are one of my favorite jets. Such sexy little planes. The Tiger Shark. They lost out to the F-16 when the Air Force was upgrading. They were just too small and couldn't carry the same payload as the new F-16. Still prettier, though.

The F-5 is such a classic. It's the most "fighter jet looking" jet ever flown, like a what a kid would imagine if you asked them picture a jet.

Pointy nosed and looks like it was meant to go fast.

Exactly what I was thinking as I wrote the above. That's what a jet is supposed to look like. Hehehe That said, the F-15 and the B-1 are seriously hot looking planes. The F-15 looks like it has serious cajones and the B-1 is sexy as hell with it's wings swept back. I used to work on F-111s and they looked great when their wings were fully swept.

I think the F-20 was the Tiger Shark.

I think you are right. 😊 What was the F-5 called?

A-D was the Freedom Fighter and E-F are Tiger II, iirc

Just Googled it. Just the plain old "Tiger".

the US flies migs too tho

For training, not for combat

Quite common for countries to have both

Cool? Sure. But that's like the biggest Darth Vader music tease I've ever seen!

Incidentally, in Polish there's no distinction between the words for "sky" and "heaven" so

This is heaven.

Yes, it appears to be.

This is amusing to me because I'm what a Polish person would call a "dumb boob".

What about paradise "Raj" it's heaven too. Kiepscy?

Raj is paradise rather than heaven.

Ironically, this is also true in Hebrew, which is the language the Old Testament of the Bible was written in. The Hebrew word is שמים shamayim, and it literally means “skies/heavens” implying two.

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” can also be accurately translated “Way way back, God began creating the two skies and the land”

I think nowadays you'd probably be called a 'jug'. ;)

Yes, I get this one a lot :v

There are 3 planes in this video.

The video was probably recorded on CASA 295M.

In the polish webpage linked below it is a CASA 295M =)

It most likely is real.

Poland still has Mig-29's does fly the F-16 and even has F-35's on order.

This type of publicity photex (photo exercise) is not that uncommon in all of the world's militaries.

[deleted]

You are going to have to break down your argument for us oh great photo analyst. I'm not going to guess.

If by chance you mean the wider appearing fuselage that would be because it is wider than normal, Polish F-16s have conformal fuel tanks installed.

I'm sorry but thats real.

Username checks out

why wouldnt it be? poland has active f-16s and mig29s

It is real, here's an article describing the photoshoots (there were several press/PR flights like this):

https://polska-zbrojna.pl/home/articleshow/24604?t=Air-to-air-czyli-jak-sie-robi-zdjecia-w-locie

I hope someone can find the original through this I already tried

Little more than mildly suspicious lol

What’s suspicious about this

Howard Hughes was right! Need clouds to judge speed!

Looks like there are a bunch of photographers. How does one get this opportunity?

They organised photoshoots like this as part of the 100-year anniversary of the Polish Air Force a few years ago, and invited known press/aviation photographers.

Enlist

Service guarantees ~~citizenship~~ cool photo ops.

I want to know more!

As a former USAF Loadmaster, I can vouch for this.

This looks like a separate one, but Aviation PhotoCrew organises shoots like this with their Shorts Skyvan based I think out of Belgium(?)

Las time I looked, a photoshoot flight was about $3,500 but that was a while back, and spots are extremely limited.

I'm working from memory, but here's a link to their website: https://www.aviation-photocrew.com/

Audio cancer

it's always some shitty distorted song blown out to shit

I can't speak for tiktok because I'm never installing that spyware. But Instagram's algorithm definitely rewards overuse of the same audio again, and again, and again.

They could tweak it and give more coverage to new and interesting unknown audio. But instead I get to hear "oh no, oh no, oh no no no" 200x a week

And now it seems to give high priority to pitch-adjusted songs. So you get to hear hits at 1.5x speed. Great.

I don't even watch reels, really. But my love does, leaving me focused on the audio, and hating Zuckerberg

The trend of reusing popular audio clips in your video comes from TikTok, which got it from Musical.ly. Instagram Reels is a TikTok clone.

Tiktok was musical.ly but when that brand died they rebranded to tiktok

TikTok acquired Musical.ly. They were different apps at first.

Ah, I thought it was just rebranded. Thanks for the info!

Anyone got a link to the original video?

I have stabilized the video for you: https://gfycat.com/ObviousGiantItaliangreyhound

It took 42 seconds to process and 46 seconds to upload.

Giant Italian Greyhound

Bot, that would just be a regular greyhound

Would be a lot cooler if we could just hear the jets.

You wouldn't hear much of the jets anyway, just wind noise.

That said, only hearing the wind noise would still be an improvement.

Would we even be able to anyway? I get the hate for shitty audio cover ups but with the ramp open and in flight I doubt we’d be able to hear much of anything but wind noise. But I’ve never been in that position so don’t really know

As someone who used to have a skydiving license, yeah, zero chance you're hearing the jets from there.

And a fuck ton of shutters.

You’re also head-on with the jets so it’s much quieter. Anyone who’s been to an air show starring the Blue Angels knows that a jet can sneak up on you because the noise from in front is so much less than behind.

Fk yes!

Thats awesome

Sniper pod equipped, noice!

The video was taken on one of the photoshoots described in this article in Polish, with a couple of stills:

https://polska-zbrojna.pl/home/articleshow/24604?t=Air-to-air-czyli-jak-sie-robi-zdjecia-w-locie

I wouldn't wanna slip up with two fighters right behind me

[deleted]

Right? Intrusive thoughts were screaming this the whole video.

Almost screaming as loud as those engines. Or as loud as you will be when said engines suck you in

Nope nope nope nope nope.

Cool video…can’t imagine sitting on that open ramp like that. Even if you’re strapped in / wearing a chute, now you’re dodging jets on the way out.

You’re not wearing a parachute, instead you’ll be wearing a loader’s harness that is tethered to one of the hooks in the flight deck. So while you have freedom of movement, you won’t be able to fall out of the aircraft.

Source: me having done similar photoshoots from HC-130s.

Monkey straps for the win

You'd be hard pressed to do this anymore in the west, too much liability having the ramp down with that many people.

Poland = NATO = West, no?

Of course I don't know if they give a fuck about safety at work. No personal experience.

Poland joined NATO in 1999. For the majority of history Poland was assuredly not the West.

I probably will shit my pants but I would love to be sitting there in the ramp.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

that is the danger zone right there.

Best of both worlds

The upvote speed is amazing as the video.

Beautiful footage, albeit short.

This is just stupid cool. What an awesome opportunity for the photographers

To me this is like the "never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an elf" moment.

Not sure if it’s been said yet, but this is the coolest shit ever.

This is awesome but it also gives me so much anxiety lol

Man, the F-16 is such a beautiful machine from every single angle.

Things like this make me realise just how incredible the human race is.

(But then I remembered it's all for war)

main photographer there is Sławek "Hesja" Krajniewski, one of the best military/aviation photographers in Poland

highly reccomend visit at his www, tons of great photos (my personal favourite are the air to air ones):

YOUR WOMAN! THAT'S WHAT IT WAS!

Those horns were so familiar and I couldn't pick it

What an awesome song

mute this shit

Ngl Poland has such a good air force in terms of aircraft

How else would it have a good airforce, if not in terms of aircraft?

Best food?

Best chairs

The training of their pilots?

Ik but like compared to others

Has the best of both western and Easter aircraft

They never got flankers though

That title could go to Ukraine when they get Western jets

Imagine a flanker and an eagle flying in formation, wearing the same roundel... That'd be beautiful

Coolest uniforms

Winning spirit?

Best ocean going vessels

Are the helmets just in case you fall out and bump your head on one of the other planes?

So you don’t knock yourself out when the plane hits some turbulence and you knock skulls with the guy sitting next to you.

Tomato tomato

Dumb question, how risky is it sitting like a spectator there? Are they harnassed?

Yes, they're harnessed and tethered.

They’re soldiers, they’re dispensable.

No harnesses needed, they’ll just enlist someone else.

but they might fall and land on indispensable equipment?

They aren’t lol, most of the people there are going to be aviation or press photographers. There wouldn’t be much of a purpose for there being that many public relations officers shooting at once.

I've never seen a video through the cargo bay like this. So awesome.

BAD ASS

Division 303.

Awesome video!

I would recommend the website of great photographer hesja.pl

Like ace combat where a lot of the fictional countries use a combination of NATO and REDFOR jets in their airforces

executive decision part 2?

What an incredible view

Romeo and Juliet finally together.

What's with the stupid audio overlay? Please don't post crap with audio overlays.

They are really space age looking.

What a day in the office.. I can feel the breeze.

anyone got the video not compressed by reddit and withtout the aweful sound overlay?

What kinda fuckstain believes this seriously needs music?

It's all fun and games until you hear "target acquired. Missile lock"

The intrusive thoughts would be saying pull the trigger if i was the pilot. That would be absolutely horrid

Amazing video if you mute it.

Unedited video with real sound?

Am I the only one who thinks this looks like a 3D render? Like a video game?

Diversify your portfolio

SOOOIEEEE

How the hell do you even code something like that? Even as a programmer i have no idea where youd even begin. How do you determine the instability to then stabilize?

/r/stabbot sidebar says:

Info: Stabbot's functionality is based upon FFMpeg using a plugin from the vid.stab project combined with youtube-dl for video downloading.

I have stabilized the video for you: https://gfycat.com/ObviousGiantItaliangreyhound

This is freedom

Sick share

This is cool and all but does anyone know the rap song?

That's a mash up of the instrumental from White Town's "Your Woman" with "Ice Cream Paint Job" by Dorrough. No idea who flipped it.

And its dope af, I aint ever seen so many people complain about Ice Cream Paint Job in my life.

I always ask my friends if the rims are big and do it ride good whenever they get a new car.

Ice cream woman by white panda.

Thanks big dog

heaven quite literally

Name of the song?

Ice cream woman - white panda https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=xJf1gajVEnc&feature=share

Seems kind of a variation based on "Your Woman" by White Town

Now this is rock and roll

I don't recommend glamorizing war. When it comes you'll wish it never did

Yo turn that shit up bro 👊🏻

Could they shoot the transport plane with a missile with just a few clicks or are there some safeguards?

Oh, there's a safeguard. It's called discipline and not wanting to kill your countrymen / get court martialed

But no. In theory, you could go to your IR guided missiles, get a lock and press the pickle button to fire on it.

IFF doesn't usually inhibit weapon utilization

Master Arm needs to be on and the missiles need to be live and not just training (can't see from the video). Oh and the button that makes the missile go whoosh takes a fair bit of force to press, AFAIK about 2 kg.

On the way to ukraine 😎

As i get older, my thinking on military aviation has changed. I used to just think wow cool! Now, working in the field maintaining Gulfstreams, I see things like this and find some profound sadness that the only reason and place where humanity is developing these magnificent machines that are a testament to our collective knowledge and skill is for the battlefield. I wish we still had the attitude of the 20s to 50s when it comes to doing things simply because we can and the pursuit of cutting edge or craftsmanship above simply the best bang for your buck. I know that war tech was still at the forefront but the bottom dollar wasnt the only concern above all alse back then in everything from ships, to buildings, to aircraft.

imagine the lead plane applies sudden brakes 🤣

They would fall towards the front of the plane with the momentum.

Conservation of momentum?

Lazy bastards didn't button or zip the red seats together for you guys.

...on tha firewood

I’m feeling the urge to jump into the following planes just from watching the video.

DUDE that is freaking awesome!!!!!

Pilots are the surgeons of the sky.

This has got to be one of the coolest videos I have ever seen

jaw dropping stuff

Who wants to play bug on the windshield

Just wanna jump out and hug it

I commented on instagram and so many people corrected me that the mig29 there is an f15 or FA18💀

Opens up cannons and ends it all 🥺😭

Top Broń, kurwa

It's interesting to think that these planes were designed to fight each other now here they are being down by the same air force.

the way the clouds look in this shot is amazing

NATO east flank secured

I've always loved these 2 jets, but never would expect to see them both together doing a peaceful flight together. I thought I would only see them in war pictures 😂

You haven't lived until you've hung out the back of a cargo aircraft. It's one hell of a rush.

Looks fake almost. I would give my left nut to be in those aircraft

The clouds look so soft, does anyone else feel the urge to jump?, no, just me, oh well.

The last 8 seconds of the video are pure aviation geek territory!

Like the intro to a multiplayer match in Ace Combat 7.

Ace Co

add some crazy paintschemes and here you go!

Good ole CN 235

Looks like u watching a movie

War thunder:

It is a heaven that's for sure.. for a aviation lover and a photographer who wants to photograph these sexy machines..

How does Poland have F16s and MiGs? I wouldn't have thought the US would supply them if they have MiGs and the other way as well. Seems a bit weird?

holy shit its ace combat 6

my dad's friend is a plane fotographer, who does this type of stuff for living. i gotta tell you, this man got no fear. tbh there is a high chance that this is him in this vid. (im from poland)

Why have your job be refueling the planes while they’re flying just so you can watch them fly up close when you can apply to become a pilot and fly them yourself.

What a view! I can't imagine what it'd be like to see that in person! :D

I respectfully disagree. We need a brand new air-superiority fighter.

How cool
