Have two. Found one NOS in the same colour and inherited my grandmother one. Built like a tank for real. Only bad part is the rubber get a bit stale, but you can buy new parts, and even the newer stylish, but same machine.

They are THE kitchen machine for any Scandinavian household. It’s like the kitchen aid machine of well working home kitchen.

My grandmother had the original one from the 1940's, but I don't know what happened to it when she passed. It was probably handed down to one of my aunts...

What does it do?

A kitchen mixer made to survive WW 3

Worth noting is Kitchen aid is not what it was, just like Le Creuset they got too popular and their quality went way down. Not saying they are bad, but nothing like what they were and there are better options at those price points.

How did the quality of Le Creuset go down? I know they have some pieces made in China but their made in France pieces still seem too notch

I bought one recently. Was washing it in my porcelain sink. It slipped, the handle broke off. No nicks, cracks or scratches in my sink. They gave me a terrible time. Told me it was my fault. I’ve never had a cast iron piece break before. Complete junk for the money.

They are still good but the depth of their ceramic coating is far less than it used to be.

I have two new ones and one really old - I see no difference.

People love to spew random bs

I have no idea maybe there is a difference in coating from pot to pot depending on its intended usage, like a sauce pot isn't as large as a 6 liter dutch oven. Love mine would not trade them for anything

I think if you're using it for light-duty mixing, the KA is fine. Cookies, cakes, brioche, and hands free whipping all work well and will probably last you a long time. Especially if you only pull it out at holidays.

That said, if you're planning on using it for sourdough or generally denser breads and other heavy-duty work, save your money. You'll blow out the motor in a big hurry. These are no the scaled down commercial mixers of the Hobart age, they are counter top accessories to make certain tasks a bit easier.

Edit: also, skip the Artisan line and get the Pro version if you plan on getting a KA and want it to last more than a few years of regular use.

Do you got a better option for a kitchen aid stand mixer?

Bosch Universal Plus or this Ankarsum.

Hmmm ... Coolt tack för info! :)

https://www.ankarsrum.com/se/produkt-kategori/reservdelar/

Så Ankarsrum funkar till Electrolux? Kul!

Ankarsrum is the "modern" marque for Electrolux Assistent. They're not just compatible but they're really the same line of machines. It's been produced by Ankarsrum since 1969 and continues but now under their own name since they're no longer owned by Electrolux.

Damn. The more you know... I'm a huge cooking nerd. Never gotten into baking because it's not Jazz but sticky chemistry. My mom does not use hers so this will be a fun start :) just needs a dough hook.

The upgraded version - https://www.ankarsrum.com/us/

749$US - That's just 14,98$/year, a bargain! 🤑

(The amount of money mine has saved me by not buying bread in the store is 10x that + that I inherited mine for free ofc)

Sorry if my original message offended you.

I meant you were talking about US currency specifically, so please excuse me if I thought itd be a good idea to suggest typing US currency out like the US would.

If I were talking about Euros I wouldn't say €15.99 because that's not how Europeans use it.

Anyone who reads can understand what they meant.

In Sweden we always put the currency last, old habit ;-)

[deleted]

This person thinks posting on Reddit is “talking to Americans.”

The dude was literally using US after the currency. I guess talking to Americans part should have been omitted.

But the guys comment literally specifies USD.

If I were talking of Euros, I wouldn't say €14.99 because that's not how Europeans say it

[deleted]

And I as an American would correct them as well.

It's not some bias that makes me correct people.. some might say it's being a dick but I'd rather somebody correct me if I was typing another countries currency improperly.

[deleted]

Love when autocorrect gets ya. At least I know I'm not intentionally a dick though 🤷

I’m going to start saying dollar amounts as “dollars thirty”, or maybe “US dollars thirty” so there’s no confusion about which dollars are being discussed.

The rest of the world is on Reddit, mate. Wtaf.

It’s my fault. I linked the US specific site to the upgraded product and the snowball just started rolling downhill from there.

Now I want one.

[deleted]

Just about everything in the kitchen. Still parts compatible with the current version sold(!)

The lucky owners soon realised the many culinary possibilities which were now open to them. As an ad from 1944 proclaimed, it could whisk, mix, knead, mash, chop , crush, slice, mix, grate and puree the ingredients. And even stuff sausages.

i like my sausages good and stuffed.

That's what she said.

Kneeds dough

Its a motor base.

Kind of like a blender without the carafe. But it comes with attachments like a blender carafe, meat grinder or kneading hook.

It's a mixer.

Its a motor base.

Why would you say that? You can see the base as well as the bowl in the picture. The roller and scraper are often kept in the bowl and OP made no indication that it isn't a complete mixer. In fact the "still going strong" in the title strongly implies that it has all its working parts.

I have the modern version from Ankersrum. Motor base isn't a bad description. The mixing bowl turns from the top, but there is a spot on the side to hook up all kinds of attachments like a meat grinder, pasta maker, grain mill, etc... Reminds me of the PTO on the back of a tractor for powering a mower or similar.

I have an Electrolux that's about 15 years old now. Yes, there is a motor base. "Like a blender without the carafe" is a bad description when the bowl is right there.

I also have a few attachments including the meat grinder and grain mill. Most of them attach right where the bowl sits. You turn the mixer on its side and put them on. The spot on the side is used for higher speed attachments like the blender, which I don't have.

Fwiw, "a motor base" is what finally made me understand how it's a mixer as it doesn't look like American mixers.

So kind of like a Cuisinart?

~~I think it's a food processor without a chute.~~ Wikipedia says it's a mixer, like a KitchenAid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrolux_Ankarsrum_Assistent

Currently known as Ankarsrum. Little has changed from its original design. A motor that will never die.

That looks like it belongs in a chemistry lab. Neat!

My parents have one of these that they received as a wedding gift 40+ years ago. My dad still uses it once or twice a week and it still works just as well as ever.

Super happy with my Ankarsrum

Is that the Cornballer?

Never touch the cornballer

What does it do?

It's a Swedish version of a KitchenAid mixer.

Mine is from the 50’s! (19)

I have the same model and color. Just one problem and that's the right knob not working. Need to actually get to fixing that

What does it do?

Kinda wish I has saved for an ankarsrum instead of getting a kitchenaid, but I hope my KA lasts :)

My mom has one works like a charm

Blows the breaker if I have the lights on... but she's a beast! 😅

Assistent, huh?

Despite the downvote, it actually IS Assistent.

Which means Assistant in Swedish - I translated the name 😊

It wasn't the Chinese that decided quality didn't matter, it was the CEOs

There was a time that “Made in Japan” was considered a sign of cheap crap. Not long after they were making by far the most reliable vehicles. China has been making top end stuff like iPhones, Xboxes, and PlayStations for years now.

Also, China just make lot of stuff, varying from cheap to high end like all nations

And the “China Cheap” thing is already pretty much gone, and for awhile now. Still cheaper than America or Europe; but they have been doing it for awhile now and have built up their work forces abilities and factories.

If you search for the cheapest place to manufacture you will always be chasing because that is what happens.

This is a very outdated understanding of Chinese manufacturing.

Not really, China pretty much captures and dominates industries by pumping and dumping. Selling goods below cost or subsidizing production, or hey stealing research and development. Calling then a low cost manufacturer is about the nicest thing you can say about them, we should call them our enemy like they call us.

I’m not arguing any of that. They’re not saying China is a low cost manufacturer. They believe China can’t produce anything of quality which is not true. Whether they’re competing fairly is a completely different argument and I’m sure one that China would probably turn the mirror on the US. We haven’t played nice all the time either.

This is a stock photo from an auction that I was able to find in 2 seconds….

Why??

/r/quityourbullshit

I have the same model and color, but this picture was better than my phone could produce :-)

:doubt:

Visit any kitchen in Scandinavia and you will find one... (As noted in other comments in this thread).

Then why not just post yours in your kitchen??

Because I'm not home at the moment! 🤦‍♂️

What inspired this post? You were away from home and just thought about an appliance you have?

Exactly 😊

Or:

  1. You are a bot

  2. This is an advertisement and you are involved with the sale of this product online

  3. You saw this advertised and thought it was cool and posted it here

If there is a more reasonable explanation lmk because this one is a brain teaser

Sure, I sell 50 year old kitchen appliances 😊

Looks at username

Cash app paying you to throw shade?

Who shit in your oatmeal this morning?

Going to great lengths here aren’t ya

I have one as well. Not this exact model but it's pretty close. I think mine is from 1952. At least that's when the cookbook that came bundled with it was printed. Not unusual to find these in scandinavia like OP said

That logo will forever look like a thong once you see it

Absolutely beautiful

assistent with an E, not assistant! reincarnated by ankarsrum

The sound it makes though! Not only the motor but the mechanical timer as well. Anyone knows how to make it run quieter?

That assistant deserves a raise.

I thought this was a can sealer and got way too excited trying to figure out why ppl talking about kitchen aids. I was excited a making canned goods

I hope you don’t mind, but I cross-posted this to the /r/ankarsrum_mixers subreddit. This is such a great photo. It’s exciting to know how long these last.
