It's said that some, if not most, of Kurzgesagt's videos are influenced more or less by Bill Gate's controversial foundation (in which some said could have influenced Kurzgesagt's stance about climate change and poverty), and that they only disclose their sponsors at the very end of the video unlike most creators who does it at the very start. Here's some videos talking about Kurzgesagt being influenced by billionaires and having a controversial climate change agenda. Video 1 Video 2

Altho their astronomy and ant videos are still quite great, regardless, and they're also transparent about the fact that said science topics are just oversimplified tidbits. But in their other topics about disease and climate change, I presume we could just take them with a grain of salt

Out of all billionaires they could get backed by, Bill Gates (or any of his foundations) should be the least concerning

not really, Mr Microsoft has something of a stake in the production of silicon and the mining of the environment, don't you think?

Silicon is one thing I feel people would not want to lose.

Tell your average redditor that the price of new fartlovelake CPUs are going to increase by 10% because of minor ban on silicon mining.

They will point fingers at something else or say that it is inconsequential.

Problem with climate change is that we either don't buy it because it requires sacrifices from our part or if we beleive it we finger point at others or downplay the role things we like have in it because we don't want to make sacrifices like more expensive tech.

yeah redditors love silicon because of cpus and no other silicon molded product

Are you talking about silicone?

Was Just an example.

Although GPUs would have been better for tech products if made more expensive would drive people up the wall.

But I dunno nvidia and amd are kinda already doing that.

That your average GPU buyer is already up and over the wall.

They meant dildos

I don't care about mandates, silicon and other environmentally destructive products' production will stop, no matter if you gotta step on a few toes to do it

With all due respect, but you only think that because he has invested billions of dollars in pr campaigns to make him look like a good guy

Source to said campaigns? Looks like you're just trying to smear someones name. It's really easy to say someone rich is evil, but I doubt Bill has any evil intentions

Friend, in the US rich people get tax cuts for donating to charity.

Bill Gates created a "charity" under his own name, donated over 20 billion dollars to it, and uses said foundation to associate his name with various good and ethical actions. But:

1.Said actions are taken in the public eye, many times focusing on the most "popular" problems, generating a bunch of good pr.

2.Using lobbying and propaganda to move public opinion on a certain topic.

Now, it's all fine that you agree with the thing he promotes, I agree with basically all that I can think about, the problem is that a billionaire should not have the power to get a tax write-off and then use said tax write-off to manipulate politics and public opinion (even if Bill Gates has used this loophole for "good", there are still hundreds of rich assholes who use it for evil) .

And I will also say that Bill gates had connections to a know paedophile and has a history of sexual harassment.

Op asks source to said pr campaigns

Man provides links to gates's charity foundation (???????)

Redditor trying the reading comprehension challenge; impossible

It’s almost like his charity foundation is his pr campaign

As if 99 percent of redditors are not sitting on their ass in their mother's basement doing nothing to help the world

What does your day-to-day schedule have to do with anything here?

Point is that guy has a charity and other good-willed foundations. You dont. Your jobless ass just sit on your pc all day and think you are doing by saying "billionaire bad"

Okay, gonna ignore the non sequitors and ask and how does that change the fact the Gates charities are pr campaigns? They can be both (mediocre) charities and pr campaigns for the guy; both can be true. You asked for evidence of a pr campaign and it’s been provided to you.

I never once just said β€œbillionaire bad”, that’s all projection from your end (though I do personally believe that billionaires are indeed bad). Frankly, I agree with you that some public good can result from the actions of billionaires, I just think the negative outcomes outweigh the positives.

He has answered to a question about Epstein on Reddit when he made an AMA about a book he released. He's actually on Reddit pretty often and seems pretty open. u/thisisbillgates if you want to check it out.

Yeah, no...

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/12/business/jeffrey-epstein-bill-gates.html

You shouldn't believe what he says, the man wouldn't admit to something like this.

Edit: I'm gonna put a small citation since TNYT has a paywall

"In fact, beginning in 2011, Mr. Gates met with Mr. Epstein on numerous occasions β€” including at least three times at Mr. Epstein’s palatial Manhattan townhouse, and at least once staying late into the night, according to interviews with more than a dozen people familiar with the relationship, as well as documents reviewed by The New York Times."

He said "I never visited any of his islands. I did have meetings where Global Health funding was discussed. In retrospect I regret meeting with him."

Here's how billionaire charity works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cu6EbELZ6I

If you know a rich person's name, they've probably campaigned for better PR at some point

The guy trying to buy a fuck ton of farmland? Nothing to see here.

The dude who owns a private jet company and claims heβ€˜s anti-climate change? Weβ€˜re talking about the guy who claims to fight covid yet stops the patent for the vaccine from becoming free? The guy whoβ€˜s investing in greenwashing of electric cars? Bill Gates is dystopian, if the fact that heβ€˜s a billionaire wasnβ€˜t proof enough

[deleted]

it’s more about calls for technologies that are being endorsed by bill gates but aren’t actually that effective and will just help him make more money. see carbon capture and artificial meat

Holy shit. What if the mainstream opinions favoured the status quo? Nah, that's unlikely lmaow.

Well, apparently they just straight up lied about their source of income, because despite saying that the majority of their budget comes directly from viewers (YT and Patreon), a larger portion of their income is actually sponsorships, and in particular ones from foundations like the Bill & Melinda Gates one, since they can afford to pay a boatload of money for it. Result is that their videos on climate change seem torn between making an serious stance against our current way of living, and the billionaire mentality of "business as usual, just use electric cars and the world will be fine".

I've literally never heard them say that. In case you haven't bothered to check, they made an entire video talking about how technology won't fix everything.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiw6_JakZFc&t=69s&ab_channel=Kurzgesagt%E2%80%93InaNutshell

Yet in almost all of their climate change videos, as the heavily latch on "future tech that will magicaly fix everything" as a solution to climate change to put it bluntly

Have you ever seen a video from them? That's the opposite of what theyve consistently said.

It was one of the points they have made. I don't agree with that point, but I agree with other realistic points they have made.

I don't to see people advertise nonexistant solutions when it come to climate change, cause that can do a lot of harm to the movement when people go "we'll make some tech that will fix it, don't worry about it"

This video explains that fault in their video very good and bring up realistic and good solutions to climate change

https://youtu.be/uCuy1DaQzWI

Well there are a lot of people who view, myself include, super tech as our only real way out of climate change.

Yeah, but betting our lives and the prosperity of the next generation on tech that doesn't exist yet is just not a smart idea.

I belive it to be a mega stupid idea.

Check this video, they show the faults of Kurzgesagt very nicely and show their own solutions and ideas hoe to fight climate change and don't "hang" on the idea of future tech that just doesn't exist yet to magicaly fix everything.

Yeah but I just dont believe in the average humans capacity to choose a more inconvenient life for themselves. It’ll be small pockets of people in first world countries. Developing nations have a lot of people who want what the developed world has. They will cut down trees, burn coal and eat meat to reach that goal. Look at India and Brazil as examples, countries which could be top economies one day. Will they be able to get there a different way to how European, Asian and US developed economies did?

Or conservatives and many progressives in developing worlds really aren’t willing to give up what they have either. Too many β€œactivists” out there saying this is all happening slowly and we can take our time fixing it and theres a certain amount of damage done so no point in changing now. So even if reasonable people change how they operate, the vast majority won’t. Besides, most of this shit lies with industry, who actually has the capability to research and implement new tech

What do you believe to be the realistic solution to climate change?

Isn't it against youtubes tos (and possibly illegal) to do that? I thought sponsorships had to be stated clearly at the beginning of the videos and had to use the sponsorship feature.

Partnerships have to be announced somewhere in the video not necessarily in the start. Kurzesgast announces them at the end of their video

I thought that changed under COPPA but I could be wrong.
